Part #4 of our Social media series: Youtube

The final part in our social media series is about YouTube. Over 4 billion videos are viewed on YouTube every day. YouTube isn’t just a website where you can watch funny clips from old TV series or music videos but it could be the way in which you give potential guests the confidence in the accommodation or area they are booking.

There are many ways in which you can showcase your holiday home using YouTube and you don’t necessarily have to have a video camera.

Using YouTube you can:

  • Give a tour of your holiday home
  • Put together slide shows of the local area and attractions (no video camera required)
  • Video holidaymaker testimonials about your property
  • Record your owner profiles by video

You can spend as much or as little time and money on creating videos and slide shows for your YouTube channel. Whether you choose to use a professional videographer or do it yourself, here are some tips for making a great video:

  • Show the best features of your holiday home
  • Practise filming rooms at different angles so you can decide how best to give an idea of space
  • Remove any clutter as this will make rooms look more spacious
  • Be aware of background noise while you are filming
  • Don’t film anyone without their permission
  • Don’t let the film get too long it is better to upload a few short videos (90 seconds max each) than one long one which might cause people to lose interest.

Once you have made your video or slideshow you can upload it to YouTube and will be able to tag the category it should fall in so that it is easily found by holidaymakers. It is worth looking for similar videos to get an idea of what does and doesn’t work.
