There is a cafe on site, with toilets for beach goers and disabled facilities, which make Branscombe Beach a family friendly beach too. Car parking is available right alongside the beach, and boat hire is available for fishing or pleasure cruises - ideal for relaxing during sunny beach holidays. The beach is also at the heart of a beautiful National Trust region, with a spellbinding village to explore (which is home to some gorgeous cottages for you to rent), and some dramatic cliff top walks.
The village dates back hundreds of years and has a variety of picturesque thatched buildings to enjoy. Stop at the Old Bakery, which serves delicious Devon cream teas - something that no-one enjoying UK beach holidays should miss. There is also the Mason's Arms Hotel, which has a superb restaurant, and will delight anyone renting accommodation in Branscombe Beach. The resort towns of Sidmouth and Lyme Regis are a short drive from Branscombe as well. Both are elegant Victorian towns with plenty to see, while the Jurassic Coast may be the best beach in the UK for fossil hunting. Weekend breaks in Branscombe can also include a visit to Exeter, a real gem of a city, with its stunning cathedral. Or those renting beach apartments could just stay local, play some golf, walk the coast, and relax. There are many ways to enjoy cheap Branscombe Beach holidays.
When to visit
Like many beach holidays destinations, Branscombe is primarily a summer resort. The beach is popular between May and September, which is whenwatersports are available and local businesses are ready to welcome visitors. But with Exeter so close, out of season breaks have much going for them as well.
How to reach
From Exeter, take the A3052 and look for signs to Branscombe after passing Sidford. There is a small car park near the Old Forge in the village, which takes a suggested donation for the National Trust. Trains also arrive at Honiton, which is just eight miles away and might be convenient for cyclists. The 899 coasthopper bus also passes through Branscombe from Sidmouth to Seaton.
Anyone renting English country cottages near Branscombe Beach can enjoy a spot of ocean fishing from local rental firms, or fish from the coast with a rented line. There are also watersports available, such as kite surfing at low tide, water skiing, or snorkeling. Away from the shore you can enjoy paintballing near Exeter, pony trekking near Sidmouth, or fossil hunting at Lyme Regis. Take time to tour the gardens at Pecorama, or visit Sidmouth swimming pool if the weather is poor. Whether you wish to enjoy the beach or experience a variety of local activities, Branscome is a fantastic option within the UK.
