The waters at Bowleaze Cove are shallow and tides are mild, making it a great place for children to swim. It is also one of the most dog-friendly beaches around Weymouth (although bring bags as no dog bins are provided). The beach is surrounded by some fantastic English country cottages, and also has shops and a well-run family pub serving local food and ales. The slipway at Bowleaze Cove also caters for boats and is a favorite spot for jet skiers, so any water sports fans renting a beach cottage at Bowleaze Cove will enjoy themselves in style.

Major attractions

The beach at Bowleaze Cove is set in chalk cliffs and rolling countryside, but is close enough to the bustling town of Weymouth to provide nightlife and access to great restaurants. Beach apartments at Bowleaze Cove also provide access to Nothe Fort, a restored military site with permanent exhibits on military themes (open between May and September), and there is a Roman villa near the beach as well. The many cottages available to you in the neighbourhood of Bowleaze Court are also close to Weymouth, one of Britain's great ports. See the spectacular sculptures at Sandworld, walk around Portland Bill, and climb the Sea Life Tower for unrivalled views across the bay. To the east, you can walk as far as the beautiful rock formations at Lulworth and enjoy some wonderful scenery.

The best time to visit Bowleaze Cove is between May and September, when the UK summer is in full swing and the weather is at its warmest.

How to reach

Bowleaze Cove is easy to reach via Bowleaze Coveway, which connects the beach directly to central Weymouth. From the town centre take the B3155 (Preston Road) and switch to Bowleaze Coveway in Overcombe. Weymouth station is connected to regional centres like Bournemouth, and even London, and is just a few miles from Bowleaze Cove.
