Blessed with more than 300 days of sunshine, Roussillon boasts fine cuisine, a varied landscape, from the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean with its sandy beaches, as well as a fascinating history that has left a legacy of forts and castles to explore. Come and enjoy one of France's most sought-after destinations.

The Mas is about a mile from Oms village. Over the past few years the property has been completely restored within the original mediaeval stone walls, using the traditional materials of dressed stone and red Mediterranean tiles and wooden shutters.

The Cottage has 1 double-bedded room, 1 sleeping platform with 2 single beds. Across the courtyard is the larger Rondelle with 1 double-bedded room, 1 bedroom with 2 single beds and 1 sleeping platform with 2 further single beds. The two rental properties together with the main farmhouse and separate pool facility are set in their own fenced 5-acre wooded landscape.

Mas d'en Llinassou is an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding countryside.

Main (entrance) floor: Large double height living room with dining and kitchen area.

Lower Floor: Master bedroom with double bed. Two windows look out over the valley and a sliding patio door gives onto a private terrace. Bedroom 2 has a window on valley side.

Bathroom with full-length bath and shower over. Separate WC with hand basin.

Mezzanine studio room has a round window (giving 'La Rondelle' its name), with views towards Spain. It is currently arranged as a sleeping platform with 2 single beds and a double futon sofa bed. The mezzanine has an internal balcony, which looks down over the living room.

The terraces can be accessed respectively from the main bedroom and from the kitchen area. Internal wooden staircases with varnished steps go down to the bedroom floor and up to the mezzanine.

Remote hideaway: peace, perfect views, pool!

La Rondelle is one of two cottages adjacent to the owners' renovated farmhouse, situated down a track off a minor road near a remote hilltop village. Don't book here if you want to be minutes away from supermarkets (although there is a useful Alimentation in the nearby village of Oms), bars, restaurants and general touristy liveliness. However, if having bats whirring close by at dusk; great views across to the mountaintops that signify the French/Spanish border; spacious, comfortable living spaces; a well-equipped kitchen; a pool you can swim properly in; and access to a hidden part of French Catalonia - then La Rondelle is the perfect location. We were here at the height of late summer, so found it hard to drag ourselves away from the views and the pool, but the walking in the nearby mountains is good; there are great beaches at Argeles and Collioure (good fish restaurants); and the little town of Ceret (20 mins away down a twisty mountain road) is a gem with a marvellous Art gallery and a genuinely rural Saturday market. The owners were accessible but discreet; the property clean and thoughtfully equipped; and the resident dog Roxy a friendly but well-behaved presence.

Déçu

Maison trop petite pour 6 personnes. Une seule "vraie" chambre, les autres ne sont que la mezzanine et une petite pièce en sous sol. Peux convenir pour une famille mais surement pas pour des couples voyageant ensemble. Il aurait été juste et honnête de le préciser dans l'annonce. Sinon belle localisation dans les collines, endroit reculé et calme.

We used to come down on vacation with our children. One time we took a wrong turning, looking for the man selling firewood. Instead they sold us a wonderful ruin which had not been occupied since 1914 in a completely unspoiled spot. We've been carefully restoring the place ever since!

We are 15 minutes from Céret (street market, shops, fine dining) 30 minutes from the mediaeval city of Perpignan (air/rail links; shopping, hypermarkets) 30 minutes from beaches at Leucate and Argelès, 40 minutes from Figueras in Spain (Dalì museum) and an hour from the ancient city of Girona (major airport).

Oms itself is between the sea and the mountains and Spain - you can be anywhere in under an hour. At home in the Mas you are completely away from it all, no traffic no crowds, sunny days, starry nights - so different from the busy cities of home.
