Dartmoor National Park is one of the last wilderness areas of Britain -- moorland landscape, wild ponies, ancient settlements -- great walks. Also easy access to Exmoor, and either the rugged seascapes of North Devon and Cornwall or the milder Channel shores of South Devon. 3 miles from Chagford (old town known for its shopping and nearby walks), 10 from Exeter, 8 from Okehampton. We are within 10 miles of three 18 hole golf courses including Bovey Castle. Only an hour from the Eden Project. Children love the Miniature Pony Centre at Moretonhampstead (5 miles) and the House of Marbles at Bovey Tracey (12 miles). Five minutes from the last castle built in England -- Castle Drogo. 13 miles from Exeter and Exeter University.

On a typical day at East Underdown you could talk a short walk up the road to the ancient stones of Spinster's Rock, lunch at one of the many local pubs, relax with a swim and sauna before cuddling up by the wood burner (or hanging out on the private patio).

Friendly, relaxed, beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for our short family break & celebration. Well equipped cottage with everything we needed. Great leisure facilities which kept my family busy all day & a lovely barb b q on our private terrace before we moved indoors to light the cosy wood burner & play games. A special weekend we will remember.

Beautiful, clean and well appointed. Well outfitted and spacious.

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I loved everything about it! Our host was relaxed and friendly, and the house was immaculate and provided everything we needed, not to mention the peace and quiet of the English countryside. Quaint yet modern, relaxing and easy. A wonderful place from which to explore Dartmoor.

We absolutely loved the cottage and grounds. We were two families and 4 children. Great facilities!!

  • 4 of 5

We were really impressed with the cottage and facilities. The cottage was spacious, comfortable, very clean, yet cosy and well stocked with everything you would need to entertain/or just holiday. The patio and BBQ were in a pretty garden area and of course the girls loved the indoor swimming pool. The games room was well used by them too.

We had great days out horse riding on Dartmoor, a visit to Plymouth and fishing & crabbing in Brixham. It was our first time booking a cottage and this property certainly made our experience a positive one. The only comment would be for families with young children. There are lovely walks nearby but I wouldn't suggest walking from the cottage as there is no pavement and the roads are narrow. However that's a small comment for families only and we would definitely go back. We can't finish without commenting on the owners gorgeous dog Tilly who we were happy to have in the cottage as the girls loved her.

A lovely break

  • 5 of 5

A well kept property and perfect for our stay for a family wedding. The cottage was very well equipped and it was good to have the extra facilities of the pool and games room. The owner was very friendly and helpful and made sure that our stay was a positive experience. The only down side was that the cottage was not within walking distance of a local pub or shops.

Beautiful, peaceful and all you need

  • 5 of 5

Clean, tidy, well equipped. Perfect for a get together with friends or families. The pool and facilities are clean and in very good repair. 8 stayed, all slept well, plenty of showers and loo's, kitchen was incredibly well equipped, still kicking myself for forgetting coffee filters!

Tilly (resident friendly doggy) kept us company most of the weekend.

Dont forget your charcoal, sturdy BBQ is present.

Thank you, highly recommend. We'll be back.
