This newly renovated two storey-house is situated in the heart of Forêt de Compiègne, just outside the charming village of St Jean aux Bois. There you will find peace, quiet and tranquillity.
It is composed of a spacious living room with fireplace, a dining-room, a large fully-fitted kitchen, 4 bedrooms and a sofa bed room, and 3 bathrooms. It has got a lot of storing space and can accommodate up to 10 people.
The garden is 3,200 m² and the surrounding countryside is hilly and wooded and famous for horse riding.
There are swings for children, a table tennis table, table football.
Two great restaurants within walking distance, one with a fantastic gourmet tasting menu.
We had a fabulous time when we had our break in this wonderful house with its large enclosed garden which our little dog loved.
The kitchen was very well equipped ever thing that you would need or want the large table was great to all be able to sit and eat together was brilliant.
The bedrooms were really spacious, the bathrooms were clean and tidy, the bedroom with the on suite with the fabulous balcony would be the wonderful in the summer.
The owner was easy to email and was very helpful, the house keeper was lovely but could not speak any English but we got buy.
The forest next to the house was full of wild boar and beautiful red deer the garden was very large and to our delight had red squirrels in the tree's.
We would highly recommend this house to anybody who has a love of wild life and space.
We would recommend a visit to the chateau in Chantilly but take the hold day as it is most beautiful and well worth the visit.
We are hopping to have a return stay in the house in March 2017.
We booked this property for a family reunion to visit Parc Asterix, we were 7 adults and 2 children by the end of the week. The house was perfect for us as it's really spacious so we didn't feel on top of each other at any point. The large kitchen is great for communal cooking and eating (and inspired me to install an island and built-oven in my home!). We enjoyed evenings playing games and eating cheese in front of the fire. Our holiday was unfortunately affected by the bad weather so our vision of eating al-fresco didn't really happen, but it would be a lovely location to spend a summer holiday with children. We really appreciated the cosy reading corner however (a number of the books are on my wish-list!) and as the bedrooms were spread out each couple had some time away from the family too; three bathrooms helped with this too.
It's a really peaceful location in a pretty little hamlet - we found it easily, even at night. Two members of our party flew into Charles de Gaulle for the weekend, and there is a direct bus from the terminal to the closest train station at Crepy en Valois. We enjoyed a lovely meal at the pretty village of St Jean en Bois and would recommend the Creperie at Pierrefonds. Some members of our group explored some WW1 sights whilst others just relaxed at the property. The only disadvantage was that we found the property a little cold due to the damp weather and forest location - there is an oil heater but as the heating is additional my mother was reluctant to use it! There was a selection of DVD's which were appreciated on the wet days. We would certainly stay again - and hope for better weather next time!
We stayed here for a fortnight with our large family and would stay here again. The house is comfortable and child friendly. There is even a door at the bottom of the staircase so that the stairs can be shut off from little ones during the day. The gardens are lovely and well kept, they are great for young children to potter around in and for older ones to play football. The facilities are excellent and the housekeeper is extremely helpful.
I have not given 5 stars because the turning circle in the driveway is not very big, we had a minibus seating nine and turning it to get out again was tricky! There are plenty of things to do in the area for all ages, we particularly enjoyed visiting Compiegne and Pierrefonds. We had delicious food and excellent service at the restaurant "La Bonne Idee" in St Jean aux Bois.
Lovely location, very high specification finish, beautiful gardens....pretty much everything that you could wish for - a real home-from-home. The Housekeeper who 'meets & greets' is also lovely and even seemed to understand my GCSE French! Very highly recommended all round.
Quality accommodation within a large garden area, snuggled within the tall-tree forests of the area. We were 6 adults with 4 children, all under 6 years old, including a 6mo baby. We fairly rattled around in this spacious gite! The parents-with-the-baby had the downstairs bedroom.... so the rest of us weren't woken by cries in the night. Warning, 3 kids in the kids bedroom didn't sleep til after adults went to bed the first night! We had to oversee settling down pretty rigidly after that (don't forget, our oldest there was only 6yo!), but I offer this snippet as insight to how lovely a 'kids room' is for even tiny youngsters, they really loved it, and had no trouble sleeping in the 'dark' with their own cuddly night-lights' toys.
As grandparents we commandeered the huge bedroom that had its own large balcony and en suite bathroom. Due to a couple of problems the other adults used the bathroom for baths, but it was never intrusive. (the other bathroom had a lock that first locked someone in (!), then didn't lock at all, and the downstairs shower had a sewage-smell problem until I poured loads of water down the shower drain to block the issue..... make no mistake, I mention these things in case you also come across them, but they were not really important issues for us).
Facilities excellent, can't remember anything we missed having, and it was particularly good to find supplies of basic goods that you may not need to use much of during a holiday: salt, sauces, oil etc.
The children loved playing on the swing and other apparatus, and enormous fun was had on the safely enclosed and sunken trampoline. In particular the overseeing adult would softly throw the tennis balls at the running toddlers who had to try and escape being hit!
Weather good for us at Whitsun, spent time in the woods (be wary of ticks) and at the local village of Pierrefonds with its must-visit castle and boating lake.
Housekeeper very helpful and welcoming.... brush up your French as she speaks no English, but that may not matter especially if you can email using google translate. Note, there's a hefty 1000 euro deposit and we were particularly concerned at paying money direct to the owner's bank rather than via the website, but all was well, and deposit returned.
This spacious house and peaceful garden was superb for our large family group. It was clean and newly equipped and furnished. There are endless walks and bike rides from the house into the forest. The children enjoyed snail hunts in the garden and spotting the red squirrel and woodpecker. The one and a half hours journey to Disney was also popular and the annual pass is a bargain if you go twice! The children's bedroom can sleep 4 on bunks, a pull out bed and a single. You would have to be careful with toddlers on the stairs but there is a bedroom downstairs and the TV room has a sofa bed. Pierrefonds has an amazing castle and all the small shops you need. For supermarkets try Trosly Breuly beyond Pierrefonds or back towards the A1 there is a large Carrefour in a centre commercial. The chateau at Compiegne is well worth a visit. We visited Paris a couple of times. If you have a willing driver you can be in Paris in an hour and a half and there is good parking under the Louvre! Beauvais and Charles de Gaulle airports are an hour away and the Gare de Nord an hour and 20 minutes. We had a wonderful three weeks. There was something to please everyone from 2 to 86 years!
