Les Alpes D'Azur, were formerly the Albergo Americano, an 1882 Italian inn on the French border. They overlook Place de Nice, the main square in La Brigue, and have stunning mountain views. There are two apartments, each of which has been renovated, modernised and fully equipped. They are owned by two families who visit regularly.
Apartment Three (96 square metres) is in the greener or attic on the third floor. It has three bedrooms, two with doubles and one with bunk beds. There is a large and sunny living/dining/kitchen room with a sofa bed. One bathroom. Wooden floors. Electric hob and oven, dishwasher, washing machine. Apartment Three overlooks the square and has mountain views, and accommodates 6 to 8 people.
Both apartments have electric heating included in the rental price as well as wood-burning stoves in the sitting/kitchen rooms. Linen is provided.
Our apartments, 'Les Alpes D'Azur', overlook Place de Nice, the main square in La Brigue, and have stunning mountain views. There are two apartments, with one and three bedrooms.
La Brigue is one of France’s most lovely mountain villages and a curious mix of Italian and French. Set close to the border in Alpes-Maritime, La Brigue is superbly situated for stunning mountain hikes and views, climbing and the unusual sport of via ferrata, canoeing, rafting and canyoning, skiing and snowboarding ,visits to the seaside.
La Brigue is situated right on the edge of the Mercantour National Park; 25 minutes to the excellent ski resort of Limone Piemonte in Italy; 45 minutes to the coast at Ventimiglia; under an hour to Menton and Monaco and 80 minutes to Nice.
Les Alps d'Azur apartments are located in Place de Nice, a large square with interesting buildings including some with ‘trompe-l’oeil’ façades, and a shaded terrace café, the Café des Platanes.
“Lovely apartment. Nice and peaceful. Friendly village. Walking good and enjoyed the train to Ventimiglia. Plans to come back.”
We are a family of five and we stayed in La Brigue in Jan/Feb 2009. Our children were 4,12 and 16. The apartment was lovely with good facilities for a family and a high standard of furnishing though it still kept its chaacter with the beautiful beams (for someone over six foot tall these might become annoying). We went hill walking, skiing and visited lots of the local mountain villages. The train service is good although buying a ticket can be confusing, it is well worth travelling in either direction on the train, the views are amazing. On our second week we hired a car from Cuneo and visited Monaco, Ventimiglia and Limone. The mixture of cultures and the fact that La Brique is on the border means that you can enjoy two countries in one holiday. Having no TV was a bit of a shock for two teenagers but they soon got used to talking and playing card games and charades. For spending quality time together as a family it is one of the best holidays that we have had. It is a complete escape, I would recommend this apartment and the area but the village can feel very isolated with many shops closed both Sunday and Monday so if you arrive on Saturday it is best to buy a few days food on the way. We would like to return to La Brigue as it has something different to offer in each season.
