and vegetables from our garden and fresh eggs from a new small hennery a few meters away from the Cottage.. You can collect vegetables and eggs by yourself!!!

With respect to the architecture of the area we have upgraded the facilities of the Cottage giving more emphasis to a larger bathroom & shower area.

Yiannis Cottage is provided with the special sign of the Greek Tourist Organization (EOT-1354121504) which secures the quality level of all services, terms and conditions our guests have the privilege to enjoy during their stay.

Spila is located on the edge of the plain of Chania 2 km from Kolymvari, 22km from Chania city-centre and 35 km from the airport of Chania. The village is near the junction with the national road which allows access to Chania in less than 20 minutes. Close by, there are 1 small mini market and a bigger one (2 minutes drive) where you will find provisions; fresh bread, fruit and vegetables and indispensable articles. You can also order by phone and the owner of the mini market can bring anything you need at the Cottage!!!

The village of Spilia is named after the Cave of Ai-Yiannis Erimiti which is to be found in the west part of the village on the hill above the Villa (1 km away), on an impressive site of great historical importance and exceptional views of the olives groves, the sea and the White Mountains.

The Cave of St John the Hermit looks like an oblong arcade. Its length is about 135 meters and the scientists believe that it is essentially a prehistoric river bed.

The history of the cave is associated with the ascetic life of the hermit John, since he lived there – according to researchers – in the 6th century.

A short distance away from the Villa (100m away) is situated a dense vegetation of extremely high Plane Trees, that are centuries old.

Under the trees is a very pleasant and local tavern which offers traditional food.

In charming Kolymvari (5 minutes by car) you will find the Iera Moni Gonias Monastery and the Orthodox Academy of Crete.

In the village there are many pleasant tavernas, restaurants and kafenions, a post office, a medical center, a supermarket and bank / ATM’s.

The area is famous for its fish, landed fresh daily from the harbour, the fragrant wine of the Kissamos area and the awarded olive oil with it’s low acidity rate.

Spilia village is ideally located for you to visit the most important coasts of Crete, the well-known Falassarna with the immense sandy beach, the ancient town and the enchanting lagoon of Elafonisi, attractions awarded by international organizations for their clearness and the multi coloured sand formations. In the wider area is set the beautiful lagoon of Balos at Gramvousa where you can enjoy all the tints of blue and green.

Night-life, beach bars, wind-surfing and other extreme sports can be found in abundance all in the Platanias area which is not far away.

The famous Samaria Gorge, and many other wonderful Gorges & walks in the countryside are another option.

We can also offer you several sevices::Car rentals, Transfers,Excursions to Samaria gorge or other gorges, guided walks,4X4 safari to Balos,Cooking services and Cretan cooking lessons, Spa, treatments, etc

Charming and Delightful cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was our second holiday staying in this delightful and charming cottage and we would highly recommend it, especially to couples. The owners were once again very caring, helpful, attentive, hospitable and generous with their time and delicious produce from their garden as well as providing a well thought out welcome pack. The property is well maintained, clean, and the kitchen is well equipped for it's size. The nearby family run taverna has very friendly and helpful staff and provides reasonably priced good food and local wine.

Friendly, Clean, lovely hideaway

  • 5 of 5

I don't really want to give 5 stars or a good report. This may make it difficult for me to book in the future.

This was my 6th visit to Yianni Cottage. That should give you a idea how I like it. You do have to do some work wile staying. You have to feed the chickens but then you do get free eggs for. Breakfast!

From the rear of the cottage you have your own private pool. Alos lovley views over oilive groves to the White Mountains.

There is a nice friendly taverna stagering distance run by brothers.

The cottage is well looed after, and good kitchen utensils. Even a Nescafe Dolce Gusro coffee machine & ato washing machine

So Please do not All go and book as I want to still return. For next year I have jumped the quew Iv already booked !!

Stunning, truly stunning place you can't go wrong

  • 5 of 5

I am not able to articulate well enough just how fantastic this Villa and the West of Crete is, below is my attempt...

Manolis, and his family are the kindest hosts we've ever experienced.

The villa is beautiful, it's clean, well equipped, well looked after and beautifully located. The pool is a very welcome treat after a long day exploring the beautiful island of Crete.

We were welcomed with lots of lovely fresh fruit, eggs, honey, raki and yoghurt. Manolis gave us the lowdown on great places to explore and eat, every one was a winner and we were very warmly welcomed at all the restaurants/tavernas he suggested.

We had visits from an owl, we regularly saw birds of prey flying and hunting over head.

The villa's located near to the E65, main road and there's easy access to plenty of local shops for your sundries.

All in all this was a beautiful experience and I can't recommend it enough. We've already booked another stay there next year.

First class all rounder

  • 5 of 5

We spent a fantastic honeymoon week in this quiet, romantic little gem.

We were greeted by Manolis who very thoughtfully left a welcome pack of fruit and other local/home produce. He explained the ropes and set us up for our week ahead. It was clear there was lots to go and see on this magic island.

We visited Samaria gorge, katholikos monastery, ancient aptera (all of these a must). Plus Chania, Fallasarna, local walks etc. Food options are great within a 15 mins drive. We tried the local taverna which was ok. Hits included Frossinis garden which was first class and ridiculously cheap too !

The villa was perfect for a couple. Facilities good, clean and tidy and very quiet. A car is a must as there is very little to do in the village. The pool was great and we spent every evening sitting outside watching the world go by.

We had a fab time and definitely plan on going back. Manolis was a true gent and turned a great holiday into something special.

Lovely villa in friendly and authentic village

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely time at Manolis's villa in Spilia. The villa is the perfect size for two people looking for a relaxing get away. Peace, tranquility, friendly people, a great local taverna and good access to the coast and the hills. Manolis and his family were great hosts, we couldn't have asked for more. The local produce they gave us during our stay was fantastic and a real treat. We really didn't want to leave! Thanks for everything Manolis!

Peace and Perfection in a beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is perfect for a couple wanting peace and quiet in a lovely, sleepy village. A car is a must because there is only one taverna in the village but the small seaside town of Kolymbari with shops and lovely restaurants is an easy five minute drive away.

The cottage is very cool, clean, very well equipped and the pool and private garden are beautiful. Manilos and his parents Yiannis and Katerina are a lovely family with a warm welcome and Manilos definitely goes the extra mile to make sure you have everything you need including helpful tips about the area, restaurants, beaches to visit etc.

Thank you to Manolis for the fresh fruit, yogurt, wine, Raki and all the other extras provided for us when we arrived. We felt very well looked after during our stay but nothing intrusive. The garden is lovely and private and Manolis just checked that we were okay every couple of days.

If we had to pick anything on the downside , be aware that there is a church next to the cottage and the clock does chime the hour but not during the night and this would not stop us returning. We did get used to it during our stay.

A perfect place to explore Western Crete.

We have only been back a day and we are already trying to plan when we can go back to Crete to our little piece of paradise.
