Lovely well-equipped apartment at the beach
The place was exactly as shown on the photos, and larger then I expected (although I'm used to UK size rooms). The kitchen appliances were all modern and having the washer & dryer inside the apartment was great. There were a few things I couldn't find, like a cheese grater and there's no kettle. However it was nice to have extras provided like soap, toilet paper, dishwasher tablets and a nightlight. I did experience some tiny ants in the kitchen cupboards, but moving the candy into the fridge, and always leaving the dishwasher door closed, seemed to solve the problem.
Picking up the key was easy but you only get a gate key as the apartment key is in a lock box at the apartment. I arrived in a terrible storm and had to drag my case the extra 3 blocks to the realtor then back. I wish I had known the key was at the apartment and been provided with the code so at least I could have dropped off my case, but I guess most guests will have cars.
The location is right opposite the beach. I liked the beach although some locals say they don't swim there because of the seaweed, but at low tide you can wade out a long way. I saw fish, crabs & a conch. Be aware there is no marked crosswalk to get from the apartment to beach and the road is busy, so take care. I should also mention the road is very noisy. At first I thought maybe a window was left open in the bedroom but it really is just noisy and cars/bikes with noisy exhausts woke me frequently. It is also close to the airport but I didn't hear any plane noise at night.
I didn't have a car so walked everywhere. It's about 40minutes to Publix / Winn Dixie; 25minutes to Charter Row for boat trips; 45minutes to the top of Duval Street /Mallory Square. Be warned some street have no paths and many streets flood badly in heavy rain making walking really difficult. Sadly the weather hasn't been kind during my stay with only a couple of sunny days, and a couple of dry overcast days.
I recommend doing a kayak of the mangroves and some companies include a pick up service. I also recommend Fort Zachary Taylor State Park for the beach but also for bird spotting.
Overall it's a lovely place to stay. I didn't use the pool as the weather wasn't kind, but it looked nice and the staff I met, and other guests / owners were friendly.
