A one-off comfortable period cottage right on the Irish Sea coast line

An unashamedly romantic secluded period farmhouse, “Park” has sea views from every room (from every bed if you want to be exact) and is set in a magical unspoiled coastal vista with an unrepeatable “get away from it all” atmosphere.”

A private holiday home and bolt-hole for the same family for more than fifty years, there is a calmness and a healing property that makes it perfect for honeymooners (not necessarily their first) and also idyllic for young children who might find they can explore the abundant natural beauty of the farmland and coastline with a nowadays unusual freedom.

The informal seaside style gardens feature ancient stone walls and extensive grassed areas and suggest the urgent need for a little more relaxation before indulging in anything as vigorous as a walk on the beach let alone a swim. There is a sheltered cove on the property and also rock pools and an amazing rock archway and seating with sea views.

Some of the house is 17th century and it has been restored and furnished in keeping with its age. The bathrooms are however completely modern. A cast iron bath, power shower and electric towel rail have been added in an upgrade to the plumbing. The kitchen is also up to date with high specification appliances and specially designed cabinets of locally grown and crafted elm. In September 2010, the farmhouse became the only property of its kind to be added to the List of Protected Structures by Wicklow County Council. Much of the furniture is antique but the interior is generally simple and easy to keep as is traditional in seaside houses.

Perfect for a Family

Park is stunning! My husband, parents and my two young boys stayed here and it was the perfect place for our first trip to Ireland. The property is gorgeous and is fun to explore, even for adults.

There is a path that walks down to a beautiful, long stretch of beach. My boys and I had a great time running in and out of the waves and looking for rocks. One of the highlights of the stay was that we saw two seals!

Park is a great central location for amazing day trips if you choose to leave the property. We really enjoyed places such as Kilkenny, Glendalough, Wicklow, and a 5 mile cliff walk from Bray to Greystones. We also had some great meals in Gorey at Katie Daly’s and The Kitchen. The property is remote, but not so far from town that you can’t get anything you need fairly quickly. The house itself is very well stocked. There was nothing we needed that we could not find.

We enjoyed cozy fires in the evening, although the locals teased us in a friendly way about asking for firewood in Ireland’s “summer.” We also had a great time in the evening after our day excursions playing hide and seek on the property with my 5 and 8 year old. There were a couple evenings when the skies were pretty clear and we saw some great stars and even saw a shooting star!

Colin was amazing and very responsive. We feel so lucky to have experienced this part of the world in his cozy home. My boys even say they would give up their X-box to be back at Park!

Beautiful cottage in stunning location with direct access to secluded beach.

We had a most enjoyable week in this beautiful cottage. Everything was lovely and clean and the cottage is very well equipped. It has lovely gardens with stunning views out to sea. We spotted the seal one morning and often saw hares running along the beach or even visiting in the garden. The children had a great time playing on the deserted beach, in the sea, on the bodyboards and fishing. We absolutely loved the quiet, private and peaceful location and would love to visit again one day. Highly recommended!

An amazing property. An amazing escape.

Heavenly isolation. Unbelievably stunning views. 17th century abode with modern touches and nothing but the sound of the surf filling the house/grounds. Exactly as described and more - the epitome of what Ireland and its natural beauty has always represented to us. If that's what you're looking for, you've found it. We couldn't have been happier with our stay. This is one of those rare places in the world that your soul will revisit over and over again, long after the vacation has ended.

Colin (phone/email) and Donal (phone/in person) were always available and ready to help out if needed. Extremely gracious host/assistant.

Tips for the traveler:

Food -

Eat at The Blue Café in Arklow for breakfast.

Eat at The Duck in Gorey for dinner.

Eat at The Old Ship Inn in Arklow for any meal (breakfast all day if you wake up late) and/or a pint.

House -

Stock up the farmhouse at Tesco. They have most anything you need, including charcuterie and a nice wine selection, along with ample parking.

Look in the drawer under the kitchen table for all the user manuals for the appliances in case you need them (the oven and washer/dryer operating procedures were unfamiliar to those of us from the States).

Remember that you’re staying in an extremely old house. People were smaller in the 17th Century and the doorways do not accommodate anyone near 6ft tall. Quaint and authentic – reminds you that you’re staying in a truly historic building.

Things to do -

The obvious day trips to Powerscourt and Glendalough did not disappoint. Picnic at the waterfall.

Spend time on the grounds enjoying the magnificent views.

Try falconry at Woodenbridge Hotel (Arklow) via http://www.falconryofireland.com.

Spend time on the grounds listening to nature.

Capture a great picture of the resident seal from your private beach (we never saw a single person all week, but saw the seal numerous times).

Spend time on the grounds relaxing.

Collect driftwood for the evening fire to get the peat going.

Tips for the owner:

Get rid of the TV, there’s absolutely, positively no reason for it :)

Other than that, don’t change a thing.

Magical Place

I spent a wonderful rejuvenating week at 'Park' at the end of October.

The setting is truly magical,a very private retreat to completely unwind and discover beauty ,the beauty of the place and its surroundings.

The house is very very special and you feel your going back in time but with all the amenities and comforts you would need.

I enjoyed every moment from discovering the beach,gardens, cooking in the well appointed kitchen and quiet evenings by the fire. The sunsets, sunrises and ever-changing clouds over your own private beach kept my eyes and camera wowed!

The house is perfectly located to discover the magnificent County Wicklow and all it's surprises.

I am lucky to have had the opportunity to stay at 'Park'

'Park,' the name of the property, is situated on the coast about four miles south of the town of Arklow which is the nearest center for shopping and a good choice of pubs and restaurants. Although secluded, with a town so close it could not be described as remote. It is about one mile off the road system at the end of a lane way with two farm gates which need to be opened and closed.

It is close to the Wicklow Mountains and the delightful village of Avoca where the TV sitcom Ballykissangel was filmed. Day trips to Dublin, Wexford and the charming City of Kilkenny are manageable. Russborough, the stately home, and the gardens of Powerscourt, Kilruddery and Mount Usher are all easily reached. The highly scenic valley of Glendalough with its monastic ruins is easy and rewarding to visit. Newgrange, the 5,000 year old stone-age passage grave, is a bit further afield but should not be missed.

For those who don't like an empty beach, the popular Clogga & Kilgorman strands are close by.

Other Activities: Garden visiting

Golf: The magnificently set Woodenbridge Golf Club, a leading parkland course of some significance described by the legendary Joe Carr as “Ireland’s Augusta” and “The most scenic golf course in Ireland, a hidden gem,' it is within five miles. Arklow Golf Club, a tricky but satisfying classic links course is even nearer.

There are many other course within east reach including Coolatin and Courtown.

The house is not rented in winter month from November to April and it is only rented by the week on a Saturday-to Saturday basis. A non-returnable deposit of 25 per cent per week booked is required to confirm a booking with the balance being due two months before the commencement of the tenancy. In the event of cancellation, the refund of any payments is at the discretion of the owners.
The rents quoted are all-in. There are no taxes, cleaning charges or fees of any kind.

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
