Quiet, historic villa 10km from Rome. Sleeps 4-30. Car unnecessary. Pool. WI-FI - West Wing

Overview

Property

Updated: 29-Nov-2016
Magic garden, deli meals, child friendly, view of mountains but 9 km from Forum

Beautiful country house and cottages in secluded gardens on doorstep of Rome. Excellent public transport from outside the garden gate. Car is not necessary. Just 9 kilometres or 30 Min. by bus/ metro, 20 minutes by car, from historic center of Rome. We offer added car minibus service at reasonable rates. WI-FI. Swimming pool. barbecue area.

The property is divided in four self-catering residences: West wing (of main villa), Farina Cottage, Mezzaluna Cottage (not advertised: sleeps 4-6) and East Wing Suite. All are independent with independent entrances. Eastwest Wing means that East Wing Suite and West Wing are connected into one large independent unit. The park is large and offers plenty of privacy to all.

The houses are surrounded by secular pines and cypresses . They are comfortably and elegantly furnished with some antiques and paintings by past masters and modern artists working with us in our ground breaking Storygardenz project. All the units are self-catering but delicious meals and half board are provided to order under the main veranda. We have some great wines from our local wine selector’s club.

This estate belongs to old aristocratic families (Italian and English), protagonists and accessories of some decisive historic European events (Augustus, Constantine, the end of Roman Empire, the Great Lost Treasure of Jerusalem). These, and other contiguous events, are narrated in a book – but also witnessed as art, artefacts and archaeology in the garden - as part of the Storygardenz project, now funded by the EU (Seeing Stories). In short, a significant part of your entertainment and education in coming to Rome is right here, outside the doors and windows of the houses of this (story) garden.

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Roman Villa Silj is an outstanding and dazzling place to spend any stay in Rome. We took our eighth-grade students for an educational trip and it proved the perfect location because of its privacy but also connectedness to the city, however I would absolutely return for a private vacation with friends or family. The staff looked after our needs and accommodated some of our weird ones, and also brought us in with warm hospitality and passion for the history and beauty of the location. Highly, highly recommended.

Family Get Away

  • 5 of 5

Excellant Location. Close to Rome. Didnt need to hire a car. Bus stops right outside the gate.

We went with 1 teenager, 1 toddler, 1 baby and 7 adults plenty of room in villa for all us. The pool area is great you could spend your whole holiday just lazing at the side of it. Plenty of cool places in and around the gardens.

Our bedroom opened out onto the terrace where we had breakfast every morning.

The owner provided us with a meal and it was out of this world it was even better than any 5 star restaurant. They were very helpful. A pleasure to do business with.

The villa was clean and well maintained and there was plenty of information of things to do in and around the villa.

I would recomend going to the Colosseum and St Peter's Square. Be careful when visting The Spanish Steps as it is full of pick pockets, but dont let this ruin your holiday.

Make sure you bring sensible shoes with you. The stalls around all the street are always chaper than the shops and alway haggle.

Location

From the Owner

This property was part of a huge estate - 14,000 hectares purchased by Bernard's grandfather in 1885. It took 3 days to visit all the estate by car and contained some extraordinary archaeologiical remains and historical features. The estate is much smaller now and many of these features are now concentrated at RVS, which in the early 20th century grew to become the cultural hub of the estate, mainly by the presence of a community of eminent artists (the Convivium Romanum). Bernard has continued the tradition at RVA with contemporary artists but extended mostly into his preferred domain of history, narrative and storytelling.

Facilities

From the Owner

This property, combines the proximity of the eternal city with a haven best suited for reunions and family groups. Storygardenz is a project developed as a search of lost time (quality time) to encourage conversation, listening and the lost art of “doing nothing” profitably - in the sense of peerless human activity originating in inertia. As backdrop to all this delightful sloth and conviviality is Storygardenz proper: an innovative mix of stories, neuro-science and art, combined playfully as a quest and historical riddle for entertainment, learning, mental expansion and improved communication skills. The stories told and illustrated in this park include: Fall of the House of Hypnos (prehistory and myth), Etruscan Song of Circular Time (legend and history), Augustus and the White hens (history and legend), The tomb of Tacitus (history), The Donation of Constantine (history), Roland, Charlemagne and Abbul Abbuz (legend and history), The Great Lost Treasure of Jerusalem (legend and history), Three Languages Grimm (fairy tale), DA DA-NEO-DA-DA (contemporary art).
