About the property

Grange Bernard

The apartments are totally self contained and located in the main chalet, the slopes are easily accessible by ski, foot or free shuttle bus. Valmeinier centre and its facilities can be reached in 2 min via the free shuttle bus or 15 mins by foot. The Inversins quad chair and piste to the 6 man Grandes Drozes chair are close by and it's possible to ski back very close to the chalet at the end of the day. The living and dining areas in both apartments are comfortable and furnished with traditional alpine furniture in keeping with both the chalet and surrounding area. The apartments benefit from spectacular views across the valley and are situated at 1700m in altitude. There are 2 shower rooms and a separate toilet in apartment 1 and a bathroom and toilet in apartment 2. The living and dining area in both apartments is on ground level benefiting from underfloor heating, all other rooms having central heating. Both apartments are well maintained by ourselves and are bigger than the usual!

Skiing: The Valmeinier/Valloire ski area has 150km of pistes to offer with resorts being linked and easily accessible from the apartment. Heavy investment in new chairlifts over the past few years has made this even quicker than before. The skiing is suited to all with lots of good cruising runs along with more challenging and off piste opportunities for those that seek it. Seventy percent of the ski area is located above 2000 meters and all lower slopes are covered by snow cannons just in case.

Walk 150 metres up the road and you can ski to the Inversins chair lift and piste allowing you easy access to Valmeinier or Valloire via high speed 4 and 6 seater chairs. The pistes are very well maintained in the area and lift queues are rarely a problem here as the resort is small in comparison to the size of the ski area.

For those wishing to have access to even more skiing there is Val Thorens accessible via Orelle in around 20-25 minutes by car.

Cycling: The apartments are ideally situated for cyclists being 10KM from the summit of the Col du Telegraph. Many of the mountain Col's used in the Tour de France can be accessed from our location, Galibier, Alp D'Huez, Glandon, Crox de Fer, Col D'liserian to name but a few.

Our garage provides suitable storage for bikes and limited maintenance equipment is available (Stand, basic tools, pumps, etc...) During the summer months we are able to provide more flexibility around our accommodation schedule so rule nothing out!

Mountain Bike: Valloire/Valmeinier has good lift served downhill mountain bike trails along with some cross country options. If you feel adventurous you can do both as it's possible to cycle to Valloire on a mountain bike via marked trails and then take the gondola to the top of some downhill trails!

As a family we have spent lots of time in Valmeinier over the past 10 years. We finally bought the house and apartments after deciding we just wouldn't find anywhere better to live or play.

We all now live and work in Valmeinier full time.

Quiet location just outside of the resort center with the slopes just a few hundred meters up the road and for most of winter we can ski back to the door. Our apartments are significantly larger than those found in the resort center and as we live here all year round we're always willing to help you get the most from your holiday so feel free to ask. There's always a great feeling of being in the mountains when you stay with us...

Having stayed with Rob and Karen in the Summer for 2 cycling holiday, when booking a ski-ing holiday for my family, they were my first choice. The chalet is a short drive down the mountain from the main resort, and there's a regular bus up the hill if you've not hired a car. The chalet itself is great - the views are spectacular, the rooms are spacious enough for a family of 4, and could easily accommodate 6/8, the dishwasher is a definite bonus, and it's lovely and warm inside! Rob and Karen are friendly and helpful, always ready of offer some advice on where to head to in order to get great snow, great food, great entertainment. The resort is fantastic for families - there's plenty of wide, open blue runs, and green 'return to base' runs for the kids, along with some really quick red runs, and challenging black runs, particularly if you head over towards Valoire (The ski pass covers the valleys to the East and West, all the way up to the Galibier valley). The bars and restaurants are good value, particularly the pizza place, with a mind boggling selection of pizza options! There's a reasonable selection of food to buy in the Spar up in the resort, and if you take a car you can drop down the Telegraphe for a better selection in Le Carrefour in St Michel de Maurienne. Overall, a great holiday destination, in a great location, away from the crowds of Meribel/Courcheval/Chamonix, with amenities close by, and underfloor heating! Highly recommended

The main resort of Valmeinier is within easy walking distance with numerous bars and restaurants available. The ESF ski school is situated in the resort and our son is a resident instructor and ex GB ski team member. The lift pass office is also in the main resort and for those wishing to hire ski equipment we have negotiated a 20% discount with Top Ski when you book on line and in advance. Valmeinier has a 2 screen cinema and bowling lanes. The linked resort of Valloire is 20 minutes away by car if you would like a change of scenery during your holiday. It offers a wide choice of traditional restaurants. Our chalet and apartments are non smoking environments. Both apartments are located on ground and 1st floors and private parking is available directly outside the apartments, weather permitting (snow in winter) The chalet is located in a beautiful area with spectacular mountain views in all directions. A local farm is within 5 minutes walk of the chalet as is a children's play

Perfect for two families wanting their own space.

Well equipped, clean and great new kitchen. Whilst the other family in our group had their own space there was enough room in our apartment for sociable communal eating.

Easy access to the Valmeinier 1800 by car or bus and lovely valley side setting in a very family orientated resort.

Rob and Karen are very friendly and helpful with excellent local knowledge. We'd definitely go back.

Super for skiing and cycling

This was our fourth trip to Valmeinier and Grange Bernard. - three of the trips were for skiing, one for cycling.

Valmeinier and Grange Bernard are an easy trip from Geneva, about two hours drive in total. Our first trip was for cycling and we liked the area and chalet so much we decided to try it for skiing. The skiing is fantastic for us - the children have all learned to ski and the instructors have been brilliant. Kit hire, passes are all easy to arrange and the village is never too busy as it is smaller than some of its neighbours and less well known, the result being that there are little or no queues, even in half term. Parking can be a bit difficult up in the village but it is possible to ski in and out of the chalet when the snow is good.

It is equally inviting for all cycling enthusiasts. Many of the iconic Alpine climbs are within easy access of the chalet, with Rob providing expert advice and guidance.

The chalet itself is lovely - simple, well maintained, spotlessly clean and recently updated. Everything needed is there, and Rob and Karen are excellent hosts. They are always there to provide local knowledge and help where needed.

We would have no hesitation in recommending the resort and the chalet. We have already booked our return ski trip for next year!

Grange Bernard ski trip

Our fourth visit to grange Bernard, comfortable and the new kitchen in apartment 1 makes it a home from home. If you are skiing it's a walk up to a level area to get to the slopes, approx 15-20 mins but easily done. Rob and Karen always very hospitable and everything went to plan. Easy access by car to the property with convenient parking. valmeinier and valloire offer a large range of red and blue ski runs, still not discovered by too many Brits so no queues at any lifts out of half term weeks. A few restaurants in valmeinier but considerably more in valloire along with many shops and bars. Highly recommend a visit

Owner's Response: It was great to have you back again this year Andrew and glad you liked the new kitchen in the apartment. There are several possibilities to access the resort now with the shuttle to the resort stopping just at the top of the road and it takes less than 2 minutes to the resort center. There's also the track which is now groomed that accesses the Inversins chairlift and pistes directly and usually take 5-7 minutes for adults or longer if you have small children. Pleased you also made it over to Valloire for a couple of evenings, Karen and I have always really liked it over there as well and it's a frequent haunt out of season. The pick of the restaurants in Valmeniner is L'Elan up at 1900. The owner Jean Paul takes great pride in his food and the way it's presented and the atmosphere is always very nice. Cheers Rob & Karen

Clean self contained chalet in a lovely position.

We stayed in Rob and Karen’s Chalet in Spring 2014. The place was perfectly clean and fully functional with more than enough crockery and utensils. There were electric rings and a microwave for cooking and a good size fridge / freezer too. The hot water and heating in the chalet were particularly good. The internal temperature remained perfect throughout our stay, via a heated floor downstairs and radiators in the bedrooms. The internet connection was generally good and perfectly acceptable for email and the like, which was important as we found free WiFi spots in the local area still somewhat scarce. We arrived by car and found that - for us - the chalet was very well positioned. It is slightly below the resort of Valmeinier and is the last building in a short row of detached chalets with really great views down the valley. There is plenty of space for parking and even a garage underneath for storage and repairs of whatever equipment you have brought with you. If all this were not enough a mention of the hosts is now in order. Rob and Karen were the perfect hosts, they have thought through what guests are likely to require and made the necessary provisions. They are a really thoughtful, helpful and affable couple and a pleasure to stay with. We have already mentioned this place to our friends and family alike and now to all those who are curious enough to read these reviews. If Valmeinier is where you would like to go, then this accommodation is a very good bet. We were very happy with it and certainly have pleasure in now recommending it.

Great Accomodation with great hosts

Grange Bernard is a spacious chalet in the small resort Valmeinier which is linked to the larger resort of Valloire. The chalet itself has everything you need to feel at home along with very welcoming and knowledgeable hosts Rob & Karen. The chalet is handy for skiing in both resorts and is only a short (2 minute) drive to the shops and restaurants in Valmeinier. We stayed in the larger chalet which slept 8 which was more than adequate for our needs. The views across and down the valley are wonderful and you can also see when the ski lifts up to Valloire have started running.

Overall we had a lovely holiday and I would thoroughly recommend the chalet to anyone.

Pas pour des accros au ski et éloigné de tout.

Beau chalet, spacieux, jolie vue et propriétaire très gentil.

Mais cuisine à rafraichir d'urgence, même pas de grille pain.

Attention il y a deux appartements dans le même chalet et pas d'isolation, c'est donc bruyant, vous vivez avec les voisins.

Pistes en réalité à plus de 500m et 700m pour le télésiège marche ski au pied, un peu calvaire.

La station (1800) est à plus de 20mn à pieds (pour des adultes ou ados) et en montant (à aller), par la route ou la piste idem, et plus de navette après 17h40, la aussi un peu galère.

Vu l'éloignement un appareil à raclette et fondue seraient les bien venu afin d'éviter la marche militaire à 8h de matin pour rendre la matériel au commerçant.

Conclusion cette location à du charme, mais pour des vacanciers qui skient peu, qui acceptent de prendre la voiture tous les jours et que le bruit ne dérange pas.

Nous avons quand même apprécier nos vacances, mais on est un peu resté sur notre faim.

Owner's Response: Nous sommes heureux que vous l'aimez le chalet et la nouvelle décoration. Nous sommes rentrés chez et le grille-pain avait été mis dans l'armoire derrière l'évier de la cuisine par les clients précédents, nous l'avons testé et il fonctionne bien. Je suis désolé que vous pensez que l'appartement était bruyant. En fait, les murs sont faits de matériau isolant et d'insonorisation et de nos appartements et notre maison ci-dessous sont beaucoup plus silencieux que les grands blocs d'appartements dans la station. L'autre appartement avait un anniversaire pour les enfants un jour et je pense que cela a été le problème. Sur le site web, nous faire comprendre que nous ne sommes pas dans le centre de la station, mais vous ne pas avoir à prendre la voiture 3 fois par jour. A votre arrivée, je pris le temps d'expliquer les 3 possibilités pour accéder aux pistes directement, retour au chalet par ski et également utiliser la navette si nécessaire avec les petits enfants. Vos enfants plus âgés ne retournent à l'appartement la plupart du temps par les skis et voilà comment la plupart des familles ont fait au cours des 10 dernières saisons d'hiver. Je suis d'accord que si vous marchez avec de petits enfants sur la route principale, il peut prendre 20 minutes, mais en utilisant le petit chemin, il est inférieur à dix et via la navette gratuite moins de 2 minutes. Nous avons vraiment plaisir à rencontrer votre famille. Je souhaite que vous aviez posé ces questions pendant les vacances pour que je puisse vous ai donné encore plus d'aide. S'il vous plaît noter que cet avis est pour le mauvais appartement, vous avez séjourné dans Grange Bernard 2 Nous espérons que vous avez passé un bon voyage de retour.
