About the property

Self catering, sleeps 10, 4 beds 2 en-suite, luxury kitchen, great sea views.

A large villa on an enclosed, gated, private estate with private access to a secluded beach. The house has a private pool, a large fully equipped kitchen, lounge/dining room with terrace with amazing views to the Atlantic (80m away) and Cies islands. The terrace has an electrically-operated awning. There is a second lounge which can double as 5th bedroom, with high quality double bed/sofa and TV opening to small terrace with bbq and the pool. There is a full sized tabletennis table.The rest of the villa consists of 4 double bedrooms (2 with double beds, two with twin beds), 4 bathrooms of which two are en-suite and all of which have shower/toilet, 3 have bidets. There is a laundry with washing machine and a double garage with a full sized table tennis table. The house is equipped throughout with broadband Wi Fi internet access. Furniture and fittings are of high quality and mostly new in 2008. Towels, bed linen and parasols are provided. Our neighbour Fatima will welcome you and be available.

How to get there: The cheapest way to the villa is to fly to Santiago de Compostela (1hr from the house) or Oporto (1.5hrs from the house) (served by both Ryanair and Easyjet) and then hire a car. Alternatively you can fly to the same airports with several other airlines including Iberia and TAP. Best to ignore Vigo airport because you will almost certainly have to change flights at a Spanish airport and the pain is not worth the gain.

Driving is not impossible if you wanted to make a holiday of the journey too, it is around 800km and 8 hours in the saddle from San Sebastian) From the UK you could also consider the 24 hour sea crossing to either Bibao or Santander though beware, you would still have a six hour drive from there to Vigo.

About Ken and Fiona Constable

A standard family. parents 2 daughters. We lived in Vigo between 1991 and 2000 in Casa Tico (named after our dog in fact)

Why Ken and Fiona Constable chose Pontevedra Province

We bought it as our family home when we worked in Vigo because it was right next to the sea and the beach with amazing views and because it is also a big, comfortable house which absorbs any number of kid's friends etc.

I suppose the weirdest thing about this is the fact that we went on holiday to Vigo in 1989 before there was ever an inkling that we might end up working there. We stayed at a B & B right next to Saianes Beach (which is our local beach), looked at Casa Tico and said to ourselves how nice it would be to live there.

It was a matter solely of chance and coincidence we ended up living in it 3 years later.

When we left in 2000, logically we should have sold it of course but none of us could bear to so we ended up becoming 'first time buyers' again with all that implies: big mortgage, small house and so on. Worth it though!

What makes this house unique

The sunset over the Cies Islands looking west to the Atlantic ocean and the uncanny feeling of peace that engulfs you when you step out onto the seaward facing terrace.

  • The villa has four bedrooms with new beds and bed linen plus a fifth sofa/bed in the second lounge which could be 'converted' into an en-suite bedroom if required. Two of the bedrooms have en-suites (although one of those en suites has a lockable door to the hall too). All bedrooms have radiators, three have parquet floors and one a tiled floor. Three have built-in wardrobes. Three bedrooms have sea views and you can hear the sea.

Notes:
The garden is small but adequate for socialising and sunbathing but not games, although there is an excellent table tennis table set up in the double garage. There is a terrace ajacent to the pool. The pool has a tiled surround. The hob has five rings and the kitchen is equipped with all utensils. The washing macine is in a separate laundry area. There is no maid service but Sarh who does our cleaning is willing to do some housework by arrangement. Our neighbour Fatima is able to help and advise on any difficulties which may arise - Fatima speaks English well.

Great house and perfect location for a family holiday.

The villa more than lived up to expectations. Our family group of up to 10 people at one stage had plenty of space to relax, while the pool was a real hit with the children, as indeed was the table tennis table when the adults let them near it. The nearby beaches were superb and having a fun pizzeria within 5 minutes stroll was an added bonus.

Perfectly relaxing home from home

The villa is spacious, well equipped and a comfortable home from home with a beautiful view over to the Cies Islands. Great location for visiting this area of Spain, and we also had a day trip to Porto.The kids absolutely loved the pool. The owner, Ken, was very helpful when we had to extend our stay abroad after my son took ill and had to stay in hospital for a few days. I would definitely recommend this villa.

Fantastic and relaxing place to stay

Perfect area for visiting all the best places to see in Galicia. Beautiful private little beach with access to bigger beach and gorgeous sunsets. Need a car and mobility to nagotiate steps for beach but perfect for families.Everything you need in the house and lovely pool. Very authentic and non tourist are.

Fantastic property great location

Casa Tico was perfect for us, two families with 5 children (including 2 babies) between us. The house had everything in it we needed and the balcony has a lovely wide view of the ocean and islands, perfect for meals and watching the sunset with a glass of wine when the children were in bed.

It's a short walk across rocks to a very pretty sandy beach, which is very sheltered and has lots of natural shade. There's also the pool of course with our children loved splashing around in. A bit farther afield in the car and there are many beautiful beaches to explore along the coast. Santiago is an hour away and we also enjoyed visiting Baiona and Vigo.

Food in the region was great as was the wine and the owners accommodating and easy to deal with.

Would certainly recommend it.

One thing you must do here is eat and drink. Galicia has excellent white wines Albarino and Ribeiro and, all Spaniards agree, the best fish and seafood in Spain. Despite the buoyant local economy ( 8% growth in the past few years) prices remain reasonable. You are within easy reach of Vigo and Baiona with a huge choice of restaurants, there are also two within easy walking distance. The beach is 100m form the villa, fairly inaccessible to the public and has white sand. There is also Playa America beach, Panxon beach, Bao and Samil beach within 8 Km, Samil has many free attractions for children. Santiago de Compostela and its medieval pilgrim route is an hour's drive, Oporto (for port of course) 1.5hrs and Valença, a walled fortress town and its Spanish neighbour Tui on the river Mino, 30m away. The mountains plunge down to the sea in this area so there is plenty of chance to walk or bike and the views are fantastic. If you have never been to this part of Spain you will be pleasantly surprised.

Cancellation
If the tenant cancels the contract before the arrival date and the house cannot be re-let under the same conditions the following penalty conditions apply

- More than 49 days before the start of the stay : 25 % of the total hire charge
- More than 35 days before the start of the stay : 40 % of the total hire charge
- More than 21 days before the start of the stay : 80 % of the total hire charge
- More than 14 days before the start of the stay : 90 % of the total hire charge
- Less than 14 days before the start of the stay : 100 % of the total hire charge

The landlord will retain the right to re-advertise the property and hire it a new tenant.
