About this property

Tegwan's Nest - Country Guest House

Tegwans Nest, is a luxury spacious country holiday home nestled in the beautiful rolling hills of Balingup with stunning wood floors, open airy living areas, cosy log fire, expansive deck with breathtaking views, and a promise of rest and relaxation.

Be it relaxing on the deck with a glass of red, soaking it all in, 'a chat' to the Alpacas, or simply taking long bush walks in the nearby natural forests, there is plenty to do and see.

The House

With character decks front and back, you are greeted by a spacious living area with high ceilings, comfortable IKEA sofas, and a large TV. There is a classic dining room ideal for family meals and board games. The house is well suited for adults as there are delicate ornaments and fittings, however children are welcome with prior approval if they respect the property.

There are 3 bedrooms (main en suite with walk-in robe), a 2nd bathroom and guest toilet, as well as a games room / office / 4th bedroom and fully equipped laundry. Your comfort is well catered for by a wood fire, reverse cycle AC, evaporative air, electric blankets on all beds, and ceiling fans. The large well-equipped kitchen is backed by a walk-in traditional "fall in love with it" farm pantry.

Stepping out on to the raised North facing front deck, there are 180 degree views into the valley, the choice of a secluded breakfast nook, and a comfy lounging area next to the BBQ, completing your country farm stay. Did we mention the telescope for those country starry nights.

All essential items including linen and towels are provided. Tea / coffee included, with a Lavazza coffee machine and none other than pure rainwater to drink and shower in.

There is free unlimited NBN high speed WIFI as well as excellent 4G Telstra coverage. Optus and Vodafone work well too.

There are cards, Lego, activities and board games, as well as a TV with a DVD player and DVD library.

The Farm

With 13 acres to enjoy, fruit trees and vines in the orchard, very much an organic farm stay, the abundant bird life (60 species) including the elusive Blue Wren and chattering Kookaburra calls, and there are amazing varieties of wild flowers in season. To top it off, an evening stroll to the top of the hill is the perfect sundowner spot under the Karri Trees.

Things to do and see in the area
Only a few minutes drive from Balingup, part of the Blackwood River Valley, there are specialty shops, local vineyards, a lavender oil farm, restaurants (offering Paleo, Organic, Vegan, and other family meals), and the famous Bibbulmun Track nearby. Try the Golden Valley Tree Park, or the historic Greenbushes mining town with a natural outdoor swimming pool. Take a leisurely drive to Bridgetown 20 mins away, or further afield to Margaret River, Manjimup and Busselton all within an hour. Famous for all our farming, music, arts and medieval festivals, check in with the tourist centre for more info.

For the true outdoorsy activity types, there is golf, tennis, squash, mountain bike trails, 4x4 trails, horse-riding trails, forest trails, and all the other trails we probably can't think of!

Getting to Tegwan's Nest
Balingup is 237km South of Perth, 2.5 hours drive, just far enough to know that you have gone somewhere special...

Other things to note
Open water in places. No pets unfortunately due to the Alpacas.

Rural stopover
A lovely home full of rustic charm with fantastic views and lots of close up contact with the local wildlife. We enjoyed a very relaxing stay watching birds, sheep, alpacas and a kangaroo from the extensive verandah. Feeding the alpacas was great fun, they are amusing creatures. There are plenty of walks and sights to visit in the area, we enjoyed just driving around looking at the scenery. The house was comfortable and well equipped and the owners were very friendly and responded promptly to our queries. There were several cafes and restaurants in the area so eating out is not an issue. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

The perfect getaway
This was a great getaway for us three of different ages. Our elderly aunt loved the alpacas, feeding them was the highlight of her stay . We loved the house , the kitchen had everything we needed, the verandah was well used with great views. The location was perfect for us. It was a very relaxing stay and we had access to the owners if needed. They were very accommodating without being intrusive.

About the host

Host profile image
Born in South Africa, went to boarding school in the UK, lived in Zimbabwe for the last 20 years, father Hungarian, mother Swiss / English, identity crisis, too many passports, and now loving being in Australia for the last 12 years.

Married with 3 happy kids, living the dream, making it count.

Amazed how the world has changed with sharing business models, and now giving it a go as a host, sharing our farm with the VRBO community.

Favourite holidays are skiing, love to chat with travellers and learn about them and their travelling experiences.

Travelled well, always wanted to be in the tourism space, follow your dreams...

Why they chose this property

Good question! My wife's dream, to have a farm, organic, fruit, animals, healthy, fresh air etc...
We loved the Balingup area, the green rolling hills, the friendly community, spent a year looking and ended up with 36 Campbell Street, Balingup.

The Tegwan's Nest name is after a guest farm I went to as a kid in South Africa, happiest memories. In some ways, I want to emulate the experiences I had for my kids and our guests. There is more info on the history of Tegwan's Nest on our website.

What makes this property unique

Unique things that made us fall in love with Tegwan's Nest...
The exciting drive up the hill, and down a long driveway with views falling away to your right. A sense of expectancy.
Then the house, stunning wood floors, open and airy, a logfire to die for and a full length deck on the front of the house with 180 degree views of the valley.
Besides the lovely acres of lush land, there was the massive veggie garden and fruit orchard.
Spray-free fruit, fresh South Western air, the sounds of birds everywhere, and the most amazing wildflowers we have ever seen.
How could we say 'no'??
