Also installed is an illuminated cooker hood and fridge with frozen food compartment. Provided within the rustic style cupboards are pots, pans and utensils. The bedroom has a shaded roof-light & leads to the ensuite shower room.
From the salon we step up onto a private covered terrace which enjoys views over the countryside to distant hills, This is a wine growing & olive producing area, you can watch it grow around you as you sit and enjoy some of the fruits of the land! A Weber gas bbq is provided.
Our stone cottages are perfect for couples wanting a quiet holiday with a luxury pool and comfortable facilities.
Conveniently situated for Avignon, Nimes, Arles, and Uzes. With the Cevennes and its hills and valleys close by, we are perfectly situated for walkers and cyclists, & there is horse riding in the vicinity.
There are colourful markets in Barjac, Les Vans & St Ambroix all within easy reach. Uzes market is particularly colourful and even has its own web site.
The Ardeche Gorges are 20 minutes drive away and great for canoeing, kayaking or just sightseeing.
A beautiful part of France!
Though our cottages are part of one ancient stone building, they are at different levels and aspects and are all different, having the ambience of an ancient stone hamlet.
There is a lovely courtyard separating our house from the accommodation and even a small spring running by the buildings.
Share our Mediterranean garden and our luxury salt system 13.7 metre pool with its poolside bar.
Pool Area.: The luxury pool is set in a sunny Mediterranean garden of oleander, olive trees and native herbs & flowers. Dimensions are 13.7 metres (about 45 feet) by 5.5 metres and it has Roman Steps descending into the shallow end. There is a gentle gradient from 1.2 metres at the shallow end to a deeper area of about 1.5 metres. The pool has a salt water system which is both kind to the skin and repulsive to wasps & other unwelcome guests. We have installed a heat-pump system which provides warm water in an efficient eco-friendly way.
Our sun loungers are textyline, a special fabric designed for pool use. Our chairs have a similar fabric, especially for your comfort between dips.
Our pool-side bar carries welcome cold beers, chilled rosé from the village cave co-operative, & soft drinks.
Mediterranean Garden.: Our garden is planted with trees, shrubs and flowers native to the environment and climate of Southern France. You will enjoy the scent of lavender, rosemary and other herbs around the garden and the colourful Laurier Rose or Oleander planted near the pool. Jasmine and honeysuckle are everywhere!
In the garden we have staged a picnic area with rustic table beneath the cherry trees. For relaxing among the olive trees moments there is a 'Ballancelle'. For those bursts of activity we have created a boulodrome and even installed lighting if you fancy a lazy evening game.
Our 'espace Wi-Fi' by the fish pond is a comfortable place for you to connect to the internet.
Places to Visit in The Area: The Ardeche Gorges are a 20 minute drive away. The road that winds along the top of the Gorge from the famous Vallon Pont D'Arc has many stopping places from which to enjoy the spectacular views. At Vallon there are many hire centres where canoes and two seater kayaks can be paddled along the river through the gorges. A truly magnificent experience.
Uzes is a medieval town with many attractions and a maze of alleys and narrow streets to explore. The famous tree lined Place Aux Herbes is host to a colourful and fascinating Provencal market.
Avignon and the Palais des Papes is an easy drive away as are the ancient Nimes & Arles with their Roman remains.
Visit the Pont du Gard to see the remains of the Roman aquaduct, which is a World Heritage Site, or experience one of the spectacles held there in June.
Nearby, the Cevennes is a place of wild beauty, with ancient chapels in stone villages tucked in among the forested hills and valleys. This region is a hikers paradise.
Following a teenage hitch-hiking trip round France some (OK, many!) years ago, I vowed I would return to the Ardèche!
I finally made it...hope you will love it too!
Phil North purchased this cottage in 2007
Well, of course the location is perfect for a visit to the region, and we also enjoy the benefits of the village...the friendly village baker is across the road. There are trails to hike and run from the gate. And we were seduced by the ancient stone buildings, also great views...did I mention the village wine...?
Our home is a little stone hamlet with a fabulous garden...we love it...and so do our guests, many return every year!

This was our first experience of self-catering in France and will certainly not be our last. Phil and Tina were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The property provided everything that we expected and more, in a very pretty setting, which gave us privacy, but with the opportunity to mingle with other guests. The pool for us was a lovely relaxing way to end our day, not to mention the bar! The surrounding countryside was beautiful and varied and the local town of Barjac offered varied restaurants and shopping. The patisserie just across the road was excellent other than the diet needed afterwards! For us this was the perfect holiday in a beautiful part of France.
Phil and Tina have worked tirelessly into making their property a welcoming paradise for relaxing, or as a base for various outdoor activities and sightseeing.
The gite is equipped with everything to make it home from home. It is spotlessly clean and the terrace has stunning views. Beautiful plants and trees have been used to create little private areas for each gite so you have the choice whether or not to mix with your neighbours, however it is easy maintain your own privacy should you prefer.
The pool is crystal clear and is big enough to put in some lengths should you need to work off the local delicacies.
There are excellent laundry facilities all free to use.
There is a baker within a 2 minute walk and the quaint town of Barjac is a 10min drive to a supermarket and a huge choice of restaurants.
Phil has excellent knowledge of the surrounding area and gave us lots of information on walking, sightseeing, local history, produce, markets, transport and restaurants.
Phil was very approachable and was always generous with his time yet he never at any time imposed on our holiday; this was a lovely balance which not all hosts get right.
We are very grateful to Phil and Tina for their hospitality and we will definitely be back.
A lovely gite with amazing views from the covered patio balcony. Set in a sleepy village but with a restaurant and boulongerie on the doorstep. The property was clean and well maintained. The bed was comfy and the pool was a delight, again with great views. Lots to do in the area should you wish to. I would and have recommend this property to friends. We will be returning.
We stayed for one week in June 2009, we had selected the property using holiday rentals and had been attracted by the pictures of the property on the web. The pictures are good but the real thing needs seeing to be believed. Phil and Tina have a fantastic property in a superb location and have thought about the little details to make the gites really a luxury find. The balacony of la confisere is an added benefit but any of the gites would make a luxury base to explore the ardeche. The local town of Barjac is great.. a real french town, while the adjacent wine co-operative and baker across the road makes it diffucult to want to leave your gite!! Thanks to Phil and Tina for making us feel very welcome and being the perfect hosts!!
On arriving at Le Mas De la Source we were immediately taken by the beautifully maintained grounds. We were welcomed very hospitability by the owner and shown to our gite. Having just got engaged we were over the moon to find such a beautifully maintained, cosy gite to relax in for our three night stay. Attention to detail was excellent with a high standard of linen and towels. The site shared with 3 other gites was utterly beautiful, the pool was stunning and heated making it irresistible. The salt water system meant there was no horrible chlorine to make our eye sting. We enjoyed BBQs on our terrace, lazy days by the pool, evening games of boule under the stars, walks through the local vineyards and the owners went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed to make our stay so memorable. I would thoroughly recommend this to any couples wanting a get away in the Ardeche, you can do as little or as much as you like. The Ardeche gorge is only a short drive away. We will certainly be going back!
