About the property

3 delightfully furnished double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and spacious living room

The villa is south facing with two terraces and a delightful shaded veranda.

The views are simply stunning from all around the property. The upper terrace has a planted area with a wonderful old olive tree and traditional terracotta sun terracing surrounding the kidney shaped swimming pool ( Approx 7mx5m with a maximum depth of 2.3m) An outside shower, a charcoal Weber BBQ, a six seater moroccan mosaic table and chairs, and six adjustable sun loungers are all provided for your enjoyment.

The lower terrace is tiled with terracotta tiles, planted with young fruit trees, and makes a delightfully peaceful sun terrace.

The villa is located just 10 minutes (7Km) drive from the pretty hillside village of Competa, known locally as the 'pearl of the Axarquia'. Visually stunning the villa seems almost luminescent against the backdrop of the Sierra Almijara mountains. There is a bar/restaurant called Pavo Real located 3 minutes walk from the villa.

The village of Competa: Competa is situated 70 kilometres from Malaga (55 minute drive) and 15 kilometres from the coast at Torrox Costa, at an altitude of 636 metres. It lies within the area of Axarquia in the foothills of the Sierra Almijara, on the scenic Route of Sun and Wine, and has a population of 2,500. The area is irrigated by numerous springs and streams from the surrounding mountains. The nearby Casa de la Mira Nature Reserve is spectacularly beautiful. The main product here is the grape; the wines of Competa being excellent and renowned throughout Spain. In general the locals prefer the sweet variety whilst visitors prefer the dry. There is an interesting wine museum in the village that sells different types of local produce and handicrafts, as well as doubling as a bar and restaurant. Competa is a pretty village which has retained its original Moorish layout and has lots of interesting nooks and crannies, with a good balance of shops, bars and restaurants.

Beaches & Amenities: Further south there is a beautiful stretch of coastline with cliffs and small sandy bays. Located just twenty minutes drive is the delightful beach side town of Torre Del Mar with over four kilometres of sandy beaches lined with restaurants and bars.

Nerja to the east, a 30 minute drive, boasts 16 kilometers of beaches with powdery sand and sparkling clear water. All major water sports are available here, including water skiing, scuba diving and sailing.

Torre de Mar ( 20 minutes by car)

One of the largest, splashiest water-parks in the province with 21 different rides to choose from including some super-fast slides, dingy river ride and paddling pool for young children (and parents!).

Horse riding: is available at Los Caballos Mosquin.

Walking: There is a wealth of walking opportunities at all levels. The national park and the Sierras Almijara and Tejeda rise directly behind the villa. There are walking routes available in the villa and there are also walking guides available in the village.

Travel: To the north of Competa the wonderful city of Granada can be reached in less than two hours.

Sevilla is just under three hours drive to the east.

Malaga old town is one hours drive. From Malaga airport a regular bus service runs to the Central Bus station in Malaga. From here a bus service runs to Competa with the following departure times:

On weekdays at 11.30 am, 13.15pm and 18.30pm

On Saturdays and public holidays at 13.15pm and 18.30pm

On Sundays at 10.30am and 21.00pm

A one way ticket Malaga-Competa costs around 5 euros per person and takes approximately 2 hours.

The one way fare by taxi from Malaga airport to Competa costs around 55 euros.

Local Taxis are available from Competa;

Beautiful Villa But .............

  • 3 of 5

This is indeed a beautiful villa and the views are to die for. However we were disappointed to discover that there was no air conditioning in the property and with temperatures at 39 degrees it was very uncomfortable. A bit disappointed with the welcome pack. We arrived late at night and found that although there was a loaf of bread provided there was no butter or jam and because of the location of the villa we couldn't just pop to the shops for emergency rations, so we had to make do with dry toast!!

Brilliant Villa

  • 4 of 5

The villa is in the perfect location, quiet and few neighbours. Great facilities, rooms are large and villa was well maintained and clean. View out over the mountian is beautiful and the Villa is in the perfect position for all day sunshine. The pool is a good size and the furniture outside is great for lounging and eating out.

Kitchen is well equipped with fridge freezer, hob, oven and microwave which makes it easy to enjoy eating at the villa.

The main bedroom only has a double bed, so if you are used to anything bigger it is a little cosy, not a negative, just a preference that a king size would have been great.

Villa has no air con, it can get really hot, although fans are provided they make litte difference to cooling the rooms. If the master bedroom had an air con unit this would have made the villa 5 star.

All in all, a great experience, great villa with lots of information on how to get there and what to do when you were there,if you want to venture out.

I would recommend this villa.

Easy street

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the easiest weeks of a holiday i have encountered. Easy to find, great service by the villa management and everything you need for a relaxing time.

Accommodation was first class - proper bathrooms, a nice modern kitchen with large fridge freezer and quality linen and towels.

Outdoors (where we spent virtually all our time) was well appointed and laid out. Pool clean and deep with easy access. Plenty of sun loungers and two terraces which really do catch the sun. Views are great.

Location is spot on. A short 10 min ride to Competa which is a very nice small town with some lovely restaurants, but make sure you go to Torrox beach. Nice clean seaside beach with promenade and restaurants.

The villa is about 30m off the road, but it is not busy at all and i found it enjoyable to watch the cyclists struggle up the hill as i downed a cool one. The bar 300m up the road has wifi.

We've been holidaying in Andalusia since 2008 and this villa makes the top 3.

Mountain idyll

  • 5 of 5

Getting from Malaga airport is easy. The main road is excellent and once you reach the mountain road to the villa the scenery is just breathtaking.

The location is perfect for peace and tranquility yet within easy reach of beaches and nearby towns, exactly as described, but the scenery surpasses all description.(If only estate agents could be as honest.)

The villa itself was clean, pleasantly roomy, comfortable and well equipped and we found the meet and greet service absolutely exceptional.

The short drive to Competa is well worth it and we ate out very reasonably here and further afield.

Our whole experience from enquiring about the accommodation to arriving at the villa could not have been easier or better.

In short our family break, Mum, Dad and two teenagers of 13 and 17, was just perfect for recharging the batteries and we will certainly look to return when the opportunity arises.

If this review sounds a little too positive then I apologise but it really was that good and we are not related to and don't know the owners!

The area around the villa is beautiful Andalusian countryside, with many spectacular views from the terrace. There are plenty of stunning walks into the Andalusian countryside accessible from the property and a number of walking books, guides are available in the villa.

The pretty seaside town of Torre Del Mar is within 20 minutes drive, this is a traditional 'Spanish' resort unspoilt by the high rise development of other 'Costa' towns. The more well known resort of Nerja is reached with a 20 minute drive from the villa. Malaga, with its multitude of shopping opportunities and delightful winding streets is only a 45 minute drive from the villa.

Golf: The nearest Golf Course to Competa is the newly opened Baviera Golf situated at Caleta de Velez. Designed by twice World Championship winner and four time Ryder Cup member, JosŽ Maria Ca–izares, Baviera features wide undulating fairways and large, fast greens with various slopes. The course is of moderate difficulty and features several water hazards.

18 holes, Par 71

A lovely 18 whole course set in beautiful landscaped links and is open to non-members. It will take just 20 minutes to drive to Baviera. Clubs, buggies and other equipment can be hired at very reasonable prices (

Along the cost at Rincon de la Victoria is the 18 whole Anoreta Golf Course. Again, set in beautiful surroundings. This is a more mature Course as it has been up and running for some 10 years now. It will take approximately 30 minutes to drive to Anoreta from Competa

With wide fairways and good greens, there are some difficult holes making this a challenging golf course for all levels of golfers. There are many holes with water, and a long 528 metres third hole. The practice facilities are good including a driving range. The clubhouse has a superb restaurant, bar and pro shop. Tel: 952 404 000

Ski: The ski resorts of the Sierra Nevadas are less than two hours drive from the villa. You could be ski-ing in the morning and lazing by the pool in the afternoon!
