About this property

Daintree Valley Cottage

Daintree Valley Cottage is a one bedroom cottage, with plunge pool offering outstanding views of 3 mountain ranges, and 12 layers of the Daintree Valley. Sit back on the sweeping decks of the cottage or lounge in the comforts of the pool and enjoy incredible views of the Daintree valley and the most ancient rainforest in the world. The cottage is set on five acres of land giving the ultimate privacy and tranquility, although offering a majestic scene to your front view. Being self sufficient and one with the eco system to our area, the cottage runs solely on solar panels and water tanks, however electric power in the house offers full electricity with lights and fans along with the availability of running a bath spa tub for your relaxation and enjoyment. The cottage would suit a couple looking for a romantic and secluded getaway, a writer looking for that special place to create, birdwatchers, or anyone with the need to sit back and enjoy the beauty of nature surrounding you.

The Cottage

The cottage is unique and beautiful, built with love by its boatbuilder owner, his sons and wife. Hardwood floors, full kitchen and living room are equipped with all the necessities for your comfort. The open planned living room has a range of books, 32 inch HDTV and a DVD player, and wifi. This leads to the dining room, with a dining table seating for six. The kitchen has 5 burner gas stove, electric fridge, and a range of appliances. The large bedroom has a queensize bed and the french doors open to the balcony and incredible views over the valley. The bathroom features a jacuzzi with large windows opening out to rainforest views. Being run on solar power and rain water, the system is fully automated offering full electricity and ample water, however, the usage needs to be respected. The deck on the front of the cottage is extensive, some of which is covered and some being open. Be at one with nature, as you experience an open Avery to all the music of the rainforest. Under covered deck, a is a lovely daybed, which can be used for sleeping or lazy afternoons. There are also two lounge chairs to enjoy the views and to relax. We also have a dining table with settings for four. This leads to an open deck and plunge pool where you can see the beautiful valley as you relax in the water or sun lounges. At night view the stars like you have never seen them before.

The location

The rainforest is directly behind you and a slow undulating property in your front yard opens to your scenery. At given times of the year the valley mist along the river floods with low moving mist that can offer a different view and movement daily.

Daintree Valley Cottage has a very soothing and relaxing atmosphere, and even though we are in a remote area we are just 5 minutes off the Daintree River and ferry crossing which allows you a simple drive to our nearest attractions, such as the cape trib drive and nearby hotels and or restaurants. River tours are available on the river which can add to your adventures as Crocodiles are often seen sunning themselves on the river banks, and fishing trips can also be arranged. Daintree village is just minutes away with a car and hotel restaurants and small shops, and the road north offering further locations of interest. We request that visitors are aware that we are in the rainforest, so to keep in mind that the natural ambiance is surrounding you and that no domestic animals are allowed, preserving our wildlife in the area. At times special sightings have occurred of our natural wildlife with much enjoyment. We welcome all guests with the respect to the property and environment.

Bliss
The home was very comfortable to stay in, and even though neighbours are around in this rainforest space, it was still very private. Being perched on the side of the hill the views are expansive, and it catches any breeze making it a comfortable place in the tropics. We found it very comfortably for two, with lots of space indoors and out. The multi-level deck/verandah and plunge pool were a standout. We had a mixed week of rain and sunshine, and could spend time comfortably sheltered on the verandah with multiple seating options. Inside is well equipped and although off grid we were surprised at how well set up the house is. Visiting the Daintree is about being in the space, and relaxing and this home enables you to do very little or lots easily. Loved it, sad to leave.

One of the loveliest spots in the world
We stayed here a week from October 7 to 13. I was anticipating the week with enthusiasm, but found the actual place was far above my high expectations. The cottage/house was perfect: great and well equipped kitchen, dining and living area, rather open plan, and place, including the huge bathroom, one with the outdoors through windows and doors. The deck was almost as big as the house! From the deck one faced north, looking down a field to the ridges of hills around the river valley, which would be filled with fog in the mornings. Great sunsets. The only trouble is that we never wanted to leave the property. We did- but were always happy to be back, and to be part of the rhythm of the birds and the day. Nature all around, all the day, all the night. It was quite hot, but not in the house- the ceiling fans worked magic, and the house was never hot. Dealing with Marie by email before we went, and Peter when we arrived worked out so well, and added to the general great feelings we had about our luck in finding such a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the rainforest. The house is powered by solar, and this made us even more feel as if we were treading softly, and were part, not invaders, of the life around us. I've used HomeAway and Airbnb for a decade, and this was the best of all the wonderful places I've stayed in.

Winning the lottery
Beautiful views of forest and mountains with a chorus of birds at sunrise. The house opens up to the natural world around with an amazing verandah. Well appointed kitchen, clean, airy. Central to the Daintree, Mossman Gorge and river crocodile cruises. We loved it.
