Differs from apartments 1 and 2 in having a much larger living space with a completely fitted kitchen. The bedroom is also larger.

Comfortable, modern in converted wine barns, peaceful hamlet near Narbonne

Beautiful setting in private mature gardens with swimming pool protected by retractable Plexiglas domed cover, extending swimming season at either end of main season. Ideal for couples alone or for 2 or 3 couples holidaying together. Wonderful outdoor living in summer, with barbecues and ample outdoor furniture for dining or relaxing. The hamlet is on a quiet road with most of the through traffic being on the canal rather than by road, yet all facilities nearby- 3 restaurants and a piano bar in the hamlet, a large supermarket 1 mile away in neighbouring village, (groceries and bread are available at 300 metres from a barge) banks and post office within 2-3 miles. Ideal spot for cycling (cycles available at the apartment) or walking. Many historic and geographical touristic sites in vicinity, as well as wine routes. Area known for wine and fruit production.

About James Young

We bought this property as a wreck with wine-making barns attached and refurbished the house, converted the barns into 3 1-bedroomed gites, built a swimming pool and landscaped the gardens. Since then we have been letting the apartments and have enjoyed many happy times with new friends met through the rental business. We meet as many of the visitors as we can (not always there) and are happy to give advice about what the area has to offer. We are a retired couple from the north of England and Scotland, and the people in the photo are our children and grandchildren, all of whom share our passion for cycling

Why James Young chose Narbonne area

The property is situated in a very attractive hamlet, but all necessary facilities are near enough to reach on foot, or by bike. The area is extremely rich in historical sites as well as beautiful nature, and provision for tourists, but is much less developed and less busy than other coastal areas of France.

What makes this apartment unique

The hamlet is lively in summer with a variety of local festivals, markets and entertainments. The restaurants and cafes along the canal bank are particularly attractive and only a few minutes walk from the apartment.

We had an absolutely fantastic holiday. The accommodation was very well equipped and the pool was just what we needed after a hard day doing not a lot.

We would both recommend you to everyone we know and are looking forward to returning ourselves next year. The proximity to the centre of the village and the restaurants and bars was excellent and the short drive to Narbonne, Beziers, pezenas and the beaches at Gruissan, St Pierre or Serignan was great for exploring the area.

Apartment 3 Le Somail

We have just come back from a wonderful week in Le Somail. Appartment 3 is very spacious, well designed and fully equipped with everything you would need for a week or more stay. The pool area is lovely - there were times when we had the pool to ourselves which was fabulous but even with the other appartments and house sharing it was hardly crowded!!! The village of Le Somail is gorgeous - very picturesque and we can recommend 2 out of the 3 restaurants - need to come back next year to sample the 3rd! For a week of relaxation and calm this is the place to be - the Canal du Midi has got to be one of the most beautiful parts of France and we will definitely be coming back. Thanks for a great stay and for making us feel very welcome.

Just back from Apartment 3 Le Somail

Apartment 3 is great value, spacious, basic accommodation, in a secluded development near the centre of this charming and really unusual hamlet on the Canal du Midi. We had a great week, used all 3 local restaurants, the pizza shack, the boat shop and fabulous local greengrocer. Recommended - and don't forget to visit the hat museum!
