Nice but could be improved!!
First of all, I would like to say that Yvon was lovely and extremely accommodating; answered all my questions and provided us with all the information on the house and Gordes.
Our stay in Gordes, the village was truly amazing, and the Tuesday market was one of the best we've been to in Europe. Having said that we were somewhat disappointed with our accommodation. The house was exactly as described in the photos; unfortunately, it was what that wasn't shown that disappointed us. Overall it had an unfinished look and feel to it and what looked like a storage area next to the ground floor sitting room. Because the weather was so hot, anyone sleeping on the 2nd floor will find it unbearable as the window was small and didn't allow much airflow.
The best area was the kitchen, which we loved, although we didn't quite understand the charges for all the items listed if anything got damaged as a couple of the bowls were already chipped and the knife which was scratched and very blunt. For a supposedly fully stocked kitchen, we were disappointed to find that there was no can opener so our one night for pasta went out the window as we were unable to get our can of tomatoes opened.
The doors to the bedrooms and bathrooms had no handles, just a hook to secure the door and the sink area had no place in which to put any toiletries. There were cobwebs in the bedroom we were in on the 1st-floor master bedroom and the chest of drawers was dirty.
The sink in the 2nd-floor bathroom had hairs in it, so we had to clean that out. Having said that the showers were great.
We would have appreciated some hand towels, as we had none for the 7 days we stayed there, only bath towels, and in the kitchen, just 1 dish towel.
Another thing I would like to mention is that the stairs were steep and quite scary, especially the first 3 steps leading up to the 1st and 2nd floors. They were crumbling! The stairs leading to the 2nd floor had no handrail or any kind of support.
We loved breakfast in the mornings, going to the bakery close by to get pastries and fresh baguettes and eating them at the dining table, but the sun was so hot, could have done with some blinds or curtains at the windows!
We emptied the rubbish as advised, but for 7 days, would have liked if we were provided with at least 1 or 2 more garbage bags. All bed linens were stripped and towels were taken downstairs and deposited near the washing machine as told otherwise we would be charged!
Will we return, maybe!
