In November 2011 we won the 'MOST ECO-FRIENDLY HOLIDAY LET' category in the 'Fields of Opportunity' national competition and then went on to become the OVERALL WINNER out of all 5 categories
The greener features of the barn are carefully incorporated so that you hardly know they are there and require no expertise or knowledge. Central heating comes from the ground source heat pump and solar panels. Rainwater harvesting system works for all grey water. . Timbers replaced in the conversions were cut from local woods, and we have planted 20 acres of new woodland. The traditional lime plastered walls are painted in Earthbourne natural Clay paint, the windows are all made from wood and painted with organic linseed oil paints, Sheepswool insulation is used throughout the building, and natural clay aggregate forms the floor insulation in the limestone floor.
There are 4 herb borders from which guests can enjoy and pick their own herbs.
Both properties have been inspected by VISITENGLANDS ACCOMMODATION GRADING SCHEME and have been awarded 4 STARS as well as a coveted GOLD AWARD
The 2 properties can be booked seperately (sleeping either up to 6 or 10 + cots) or can be booked together sleeping up to a total of 16 + cots.
Due to the type of property and location both properties are not suitable for what is known as 'house party venue' or for 'louder' hen or stag parties - we can recommed other nearby places if you are after this type of accommodation
Payment for the booking will be arranged when we confirm your booking - with deposit requirement & full terms and conditions

Booked to stay for three nights in The Old Cartshed over my birthday weekend to celebrate with family and friends.
On arrival, Barbara met us at the cottage with an open fire glowing in the lounge, homemade birthday cake and balloons in the kitchen!
We spent the days exploring the local country side, going into Leek which is a lovely quaint town or trying the local beer and hot chcoclate in The Lazy Trout pub just down the road.
The Cottage is so well equipped, so some evenings we cooked, another we went to the Three Horseshoes pub which had great, homely pub grub food.
There were eight of us and we all had the best time- hard not to with good food, good wine and an open fire!
Barbara topped it off though with the little touches and made us all so welcome.
A thoroughly enjoyable, relaxing & memorable birthday, cannot recommended enough!!
Thank you Barbara & family.

A very warm welcome to a beautiful, spotlessly clean, well equipped property. We would thoroughly recommend staying here and couldn't fault Barbara and her family. There is masses to do in the surrounding area regardless of weather. We will be returning.
A beautiful barn set in an idyllic place overlooking a reservoir. The lovely pub up the road, the Three Horseshoes, served delicious food and well priced drinks. It's a bit of a trek (about 1.2 miles and not much pavement to walk on - take a torch if dark), but it was worth it. The owners at the barn, who live locally, really went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The history of the barn itself is available to visitors to read about for those who are interested, and the addition of wifi is helpful due to the intermittent phone signal. Would definitely visit again.
The barn is first class, with everything you need. Barbara is lovely, very friendly & helpful & made us very welcome. The views from the barn are stunning & there are lots of interesting walks right on the doorstep. Thank you for your kind hospitality, we have recommended your properties to our friends & family. Wishing you every success for the coming year!
Absolutely fabulous! We couldn't have asked for more for Samantha's hen do during May bank holiday weekend. The cottage was beautiful - photos really do not do it justice, it was set in beautiful surroundings and ran by such a wonderful family who really added to the special weekend.
The cottage was immaculate both inside and out with beautiful, finishing touches. The beds were comfortable with lovely duck down bedding, a hand-made kitchen with all necessities and a gorgeous wood burner in the living room that Barbara was more than happy to help us light when we were having problems on the Sunday evening. To me, meeting Barbara and her family made our visit even more worthwhile, seeing and hearing the amount of effort and love that has gone into the two barn conversions. Nothing was too much trouble and I felt the family went out of their way to ensure we had a pleasant stay; I think everyone in the hospitality industry should be taking tips from them!
We all felt so relaxed and at ease whilst staying in the cottage; it really did feel like home and not a holiday rental. We will definitely be back, hopefully later into 2014 and have recommended Troutsdale Farm to all of our families and friends. Keep up the fantastic work as your efforts and personal touches really shone through. Thank you! xx
We stayed in the Old Shire stables for a week just before Easter. We arrived early evening and were met with a warm friendly welcome, the log fire already burning and a yummy home baked cake to enjoy! The barn has been beautifully converted by the owners, no expense has been spared. Thought has been put into every last detail. The pictures on here just simply do not do it justice! It was also spotlessly clean, even by my own extremely fussy standards! Beds were all very comfortable, bedding was beautiful to sleep in. Waking up to beautiful views of the countryside and the sound of the lambs just outside can't fail to put a smile on your face. Barbara and her family made us all so welcome and at ease. They love their surroundings and are happy to share this with their guests. Can't wait to visit again! Thank you Barbara, Ray and Kathrine, we all had a lovely time.
