beautiful choice for the south of France

  • 5 of 5

There are many things to love about this house. There's the location: Sorede is a beautiful, unspoiled village in the foothills of the Pyrenees, just minutes from some of the loveliest beaches of the Mediterranean. The house is just a step from Sorede's square -- you can walk for you morning coffee or bakery treat. And after, you can begin your hike without ever getting into your car. The house itself is lovely and so spacious! The bedrooms are large, the living room fits a big family or a small group of friends perfectly. The furnishings are tasteful, the whole place is very clean and well equipped. And the garden is beautifully maintained! You can tell the owners put in a lot of effort -- both inside and out. Which brings me to one last point: the owners are wonderfully helpful and kind. No request is too big or too small. They respond quickly and with total concern for your well being.

I've been coming back to Sorede for several years now. I am so glad to have found these kind people. I already booked my stay with them for next September!

A very good holiday

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your well equipped villa. It was in easy walking distance of the village. The pool was well used as it was warm and sunny all week, windy on a couple of days but your lovely terrace enabled us to eat outside every day.

A delightful, pristine & well-maintained villa.

  • 5 of 5

This spacious, well-appointed villa lacks nothing. It is set in lovely grounds with a mountain backdrop. The description and photos are accurate and realistic; the rooms really are that large! Furnishings are colourful and fresh.

The owners live in the same road and their attention to our needs went over and above the call of duty: they were delightful.

Sadly, the weather was unkind to us and we did not get to sample the otherwise welcoming pool. We did, however, enjoy mountain walks, which were well sign posted and way marked. The coastal resorts are close and very attractive. In the other direction we particularly liked Ceret and its superb 20th century art museum.

Definitely to be recommended.

Absolutely lovely

  • 5 of 5

Just got back from a fantastic stay at Mas Lavanda villa. Real home from home with everything you could need for an extended family of 10 over three generations. Totally five star property, big airy bedrooms and lovely pool.

Owners were truly fantastic, nothing was a bother. It was nice to have them at hand if we had a problem with anything.

Sorede is a lovely village, with a market twice a week. Collioure and Argeles sur Mer were a treat to visit of an evening. Worth a visit are Narbonne Sunday Market and the Castle at Carcasonne.

Absolutely fabulous villa, fantastic holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We had a 2 week stay at this superb villa, 10 of us in total, 3 generations - 6 adults and 4 children ranging in age from 3 to 13. We just loved our time there. The villa is perfectly equipped with everything you need to make your stay not just comfortable but a real pleasure. The villa itself is very spacious, immaculately maintained and beautifully decorated - but without feeling like a show-home that you're scared to let the kids relax in!

All of the "adult" bedrooms were ensuite, and all rooms had air conditioning, which was great to cool the rooms in the evening before bed.

The grounds of the villa were also perfect, plenty of space, a range of activities for the kids (big and little!) such as badminton, table tennis, and of course the lovely pool. Although it's not heated, we didn't have any problem with this, it was refreshing and well designed for the children with a little step area that they could paddle in before taking the plunge! The poolside area was great too, with plenty of really comfortable sun-loungers (with comfy cushions!) for all the adults - the kids didn't sit still long enough to need them!!

The outdoor seating area was a really decent size, really good for seating 10 of us every day, right next to the kitchen and BBQ, so whoever was on cooking duty felt part of the group at all times!

Ragnar & Regina (the owners) were brilliant, they really seemed to care that we had everything we needed to enjoy our holiday, and were available straight away on the odd occasion we had a question or needed some advice.

The small town of Sorede was lovely, a typical quiet french town, with all the local shops you need, a number of nice restaurants and cafes and lovely little market a couple of times a week. It is not at all touristy, which suited us perfectly. We took a short drive to Argeles sur Mer for the touristy beach destination and were slightly overwhelmed by all the shops and people, after the peace and quiet of Sorede!

There's a good supermarket a 5/10 minute drive from the villa which served us brilliantly for the duration of our stay. We also explored nearby Collioure, which I'd really recommend. Its a stunning old port, with lots of tiny little twisty-turny streets with a really eclectic mix of shops and cafes.

We were very sad to leave and wished we had booked a longer stay. We're already planning our next trip here as not only was the villa perfect for our group, but the area is so packed with things and places to explore.

Just like Camelot, it only rained at night!

  • 5 of 5

There is little new we can add to previous reviews, which we found very helpful when planning our three-generation holiday, but we did want to say that Mas Lavande was perfect. It was even larger than it looked in the photos, scrupulously clean and very well equipped. Ragnar and Regina are wonderful hosts and seem to be constantly working to keep the property in top condition - two new sets of French doors and some replacement shower units were installed around the time of our visit.

We enjoyed being in Sorede, making use of the village shops, especially the boulangerie, but also found the nearby Carrefour very useful. There was a small display of traditional dancing in the village square on our second Thursday evening. The previous week it had been cancelled because of a tremendous thunderstorm - but it only rained after dark and Mas Lavande is watertight!

We took the advice and made early starts to Carcassonne and the market at Coulliore so were able to park quite easily. We did not see the best of Port Vendres as we should have continued further round the harbour before parking, but the children enjoyed the trip in a glass-bottomed boat.

Thanks to Ragnar and Regina for making it such a memorable holiday - the Beavis/Richardson families
