'Le Verger' or 'The Orchard' is a beautifully restored traditional French Farmhouse set in in the heart of Lot et Garonne, Aquitaine.
It has large, airy and spacious rooms with high ceilings, and thick stone walls which keep the interior lovely and cool, even in high summer. Its picture windows overlooking the gardens and countryside beyond give plenty of bright daylight, while the shutters can also be closed during the hottest part of the day. For cooler seasons, there is central heating throughout, and a wood-burning stove in the formal sitting-room.

Le Verger is situated in a peaceful, rural hamlet in Lot et Garonne, one of the five Departments which form the Region of Aquitaine, South-West France.
The surrounding countryside is renowned for its rich and fertile land with many Orchards and Vineyards, and Marmande for its famous tomatoes! Fields of Sunflowers abound in the summer. The area is ideal for walking, cycling, fishing, golf, bird-watching, canoeing, horse-riding and sight-seeing or touring by car. Light pollution is very low, so the night skies can be wonderful.
The gastronomy of this part of France is world-renowned, with Foie Gras, Confit de Canard, Cèpe Mushrooms and Nut Cake being the traditional favourites, but it is also the land of game, prunes, strawberries, sweet melons, asparagus and, of course, Marmande tomatoes.
The local open air markets which take place are the best places to source the freshest local produce (see below for market days). Many farms also sell their produce direct to the public - look out for hand-painted signs saying 'Vente Direct' on the roadside.
Restaurants and Cafés are plentiful in the nearby towns and villages. You will pass many small vineyards en route to many local towns, especially around Duras, Bergerac and Saint-Emilion, where you will be welcome to stop at to taste and buy their wine - usually very good value.
The climate in Lot et Garonne is a cross between Atlantic Maritime and Mediterranean. Early springs, long hot summers and mild winters with clear blue skies. Occasional short sharp thunderstorms in the summer and soft drizzly rain in the winter are typical. The early spring blossom and Autumn foliage can be spectacular.

Restaurants, Cafés and Vineyards are plentiful in the nearby towns and villages.
The nearest village is Seyches (2.5km) which has an excellent Boulangerie (open 7 days a week), small Supermarket, a Bank with Cashpoint (ATM), Tabac, Post Office, Pharmacy and two popular and reasonably priced Restaurants. On Friday mornings there is a local Farmer's market in the covered market place.
The nearest town is Miramont de Guyenne (7km), a thriving Bastide with its ancient Market Square, several Restaurants and Cafés and a fantastic Open air Market every Monday morning, very well patronised by the local population. There are three good sized supermarkets in Miramont, two with attached petrol stations.
The Spa town of Casteljaloux is a few miles away, with its Thermal Springs and Healing Waters.
Other Bastides nearby are Duras, Lauzun, Eymet, Castillones, Marmande and Saint=Emilion with their Medieval Squares, Open-Air Markets, Street Cafés and Historic Architecture. The famous cities of Bergerac and Bordeaux are easily accesible by car; Bordeaux can also be reached directly by Train from Marmande.
