A luxurious central apartment with period features and a hi-tec specification

This 4 star rated city centre property is located a 2 minute walk from central Princes Street. It's on the first floor of a Georgian building that was built circa 1790. The property was recently restored and retains many period features yet benefits from a hi-tech spec, including a 43-inch plasma TV and Bose sound system supplying music to every room.

The superb triple-windowed Drawing Room overlooks Hanover Street and George Street and has a working fire. This room is furnished with antiques and there are 2 modern comfortable sofas which convert into double beds should guests be staying. There is a double and twin bedroom to the rear of the property and both have fitted wardrobes and wall-mounted LCD TV's. The Shower Room has quality fittings and the power shower benefits from body-jets. The new Kitchen has granite worktops and is well-equipped including a dishwasher, washer/dryer and waste disposal unit. A key to the private gardens is also provided. There is free internet access

The Hanover Street apartment is located in the very centre of Edinburgh's Georgian New Town and as such one is perfectly placed for visiting many of Edinburgh's attractions. Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile are a 10 minute walk away while the Scottish National Gallery and Portrait Gallery are a 2 minute walk. Edinburgh's fashionable shopping district, George Street is literally on your door step and St Andrew Square, which is where Harvey Nichols is based, is round the corner. This part of the city is crammed with excellent restaurants, bars and pubs and one is only a short walk from theatres, cinemas and concert halls. The city really can cater for all tastes.

Excellent place to stay

We stayed here for a week in July 2009 and found the apartment to be great for all our needs. We had 4 adults and 2 children staying and were quite comfortable. The apartment is very nice and clean.

The location would be very difficult to beat!

I noticed that a previous review noted the noise from the bar next door. Yes there was some noise but if you shut the front windows you couldn't hear it at all.

Lovely flat just off George St, so central

Second year we have stayed here during the festival. A great base from which to explore, with a lovely big living room (high ceiling, big windows) and two comfortable bedrooms. The living room also has two sofa beds.

Superbe location & exquisite ambiance

This apartment is in a Georgian townhouse in the New Town of Edinburgh. Its location allows holiday-makers to walk to most of the top sites in the Scottish capital, including the castle, the royal mile, Holyroodhouse, most museums & galleries, and also the lovely Georgian House (7 Charlotte Square), where one can see how the house must've originally been set up. The apartment is very well-equipped with lots of mod-cons (WIFI, nice sound system, everything you need in the kitchen, super power-shower, etc.). Anyone wanting to attend the Fringe festival would be well-advised to choose this location, as it's only a stone's throw from George Street and many of the festival venues. And if you don't want to cook, Starbucks, Subway, McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, the Hard Rock Café & TGIFriday's are all within walking distance, as well. The Prince's Street tram station is just a short walk away, and there are several nearby bus stops if one chooses to venture a bit further abroad - direct number 11 bus from George Street to the Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre for visiting HMY Britannia & onboard tea or lunch in one of the many restaurants - Frankie's & Benny's, for example. Also included is a key to one of the superbe Queen Street gardens, for a nice relaxing stroll in the greenery.

We were really pleased with our stay on Hanover Street, and highly recommend the apartment. Our thanks to François, a very discreet and helpful host. If we have the good fortune to return to Edinburgh, we will certainly look into booking this apartment again.

Comfortable and conveniently-located apartment

This was a perfect base for family exploration of Edinburgh, located within walking distance of almost everything we could have wanted. The kitchen was actually equipped well enough to cook in!--something that cannot be said about every vacation rental. There was also a very helpful binder full of instructions to all of the appliances which came in handy when we were trying to understand the washer/dryer combo. Even with the instruction sheet, however, we were never able to figure out how to get both picture and sound on the living room TV/DVD.

A couple of observations: the listing says "suitable for elderly or infirm" although also "wheelchair inaccessible". Although we were not traveling with elderly or infirm parents on this trip, having done so in the past I would regard the long interior staircase (after the steep steps up to the door from the sidewalk--the ceilings are as high as pictured) as a daunting prospect for an elderly or infirm person. We were also grateful NOT to have anyone sleeping on a pullout sofa in the living room, since the crowds at lively bar/restaurant immediately beneath the apartment generate a great deal of noise on summer weekend nights; on busy nights the crowds expand to congregate on the sidewalk in front of the steps, and we found that even shutting the interior wooden window shutters AND the double doors from the living room into the hall did not completely shut out the noise. As noted by another reviewer, though, the bedrooms are in the back of the apartment which is much quieter (at least until the restaurant empties their glass bottles into the rubbish bins!) The bedrooms themselves are small and comfortable, with useful reading lights. Space for suitcases in the bedrooms is minimal, though each does have a small closet.

All in all, the apartment was as advertised and Francois was very helpful in explaining the necessary "how-to"s. We quickly felt at home away from home.
