Chiado Trindade I+II - 5-bedroom apartment in aristocratic Chiado

Chiado is probably Lisbon’s trendiest quarter. A colorful blend of 18th-century palaces, little squares, excellent patisseries, in-vogue restaurants, great street life and good shopping make this area one of the best to stay in. This apartment - a national heritage building because of its beautifully tiled façade - creates the perfect environment for a large group of people. It has 2 additional advantages: its central location and very easy access to public transport. So why not book this apartment and experience the perfect starting point to explore a unique European capital?

On the 3rd floor of a building without a lift, this apartment includes a living/dining room, 5 great bedrooms (one is en suite and has a sloping ceiling), 4 complete bathrooms, 1 toilet and a fully equipped kitchen.

There is space everywhere: the bedrooms are roomy, living/dining rooms are very spacious and interiors are comfortable and colorful (all bedrooms have distinctive colors). We love the little dark blue tiles on the bathroom walls and the ceiling and narrow window of an attic-like bedroom. The apartment includes a decorated iron railing balcony and has views over the river, cascading rooftops, charming squares and narrow sloping alleys.

With a map in your hand, find your way around the trendiest Lisbon quarter and surroundings such as the picturesque and alternative Bairro Alto, famous for its nightlife and good restaurants.

But let’s start from the beginning: when you leave the building turn left; from here you’ll find the Carmo square and the ruins of the former Carmo convent which, before the 1755 earthquake, competed in grandeur and splendor with the surviving Sé Cathedral (in Alfama, on the opposite side of the downtown area). Stop for a few minutes and have a 'bica' (espresso) in one of the Square’s cafés. From here you can either go down to Rossio, the famous downtown square or train station (from where you can take the train and visit the amazing natural jewel of Sintra), or walk down to the center of Chiado. Here you can window-shop for a while, buy a large ice-cream and explore the streets lined with elegant, 18th-century architecture.

But if you prefer a more local and genuine Lisbon, simply cross Lisbon’s downtown streets and walk up the hill. Here you’ll find monuments such as the impressive 14th-century São Jorge Castle, the gothic Sé Cathedral, various viewpoints with breathtaking views over the deep blue river, lovely taverns where you can listen to Fado amateurs (or professionals), 100-year old (at least!) grocer’s shops, souvenir shops and, of course, the Fado Museum.

However, if you leave the apartment and walk down the beautiful Rua do Alecrim, with its striking manor houses and the blue Tagus stretched out below, you’ll come to Cais do Sodré, another popular area, famous for its nightlife, restaurants and interior design stores. From here, walk to Cais do Sodré station and take the train along the Portuguese Riviera to Cascais and Estoril, 19th-century seaside resorts where the affluent used to spend their summers.

The apartment is close to all types of transport: within a walking distance of 2 to 5 min, you’ll find taxis, Baixa/Chiado metro station, bus stops to places such as the airport, Belém (the museum neighborhood), Santa Apolónia train station (that links Lisbon to most of Portugal), Rossio train station, from where you can reach Lord Byron’s beloved town of Sintra, and even the world famous 28 tram stop. While you wait for the tram to arrive, don’t forget to have another 'bica' at Brasileira café. Try to sit close to Fernando Pessoa’s statue and ask to have your photo taken with Portugal’s greatest 20th century poet!

Guestbook comments from the manager

We spent 6 days with a party of 13 at the Trindade apartments and enjoyed every minute. The location could hardly be better and still it is quiet since the sleeping rooms are all off the street. This has been the first in a long series of vacation rental apartments worldwide where there was nothing at all missing. From the small stuff such as salt and pepper or coffee machine filters to dishwasher and dryer, everything was stocked. All the administrative business was handled professionally and very well too. Many thanks to the whole team from Switzerland!

Loved this apartment - fantastic location!

  • 5 of 5

We spent six days at this apartment and loved it! You cannot beat the location. We were 4 couples and each had their own space and privacy. It's great for large groups. There is easy access to restaurants; literally right outside your door. Even though the temperatures were unusually high for October, there were plenty of fans in all rooms. The check in process was easy and there is a large amount of information provided about the area that was helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Stunning apartment in excellent location

  • 5 of 5

Stayed with 4 friends - all had a room each. Apartment is huge! Location is perfect for sightseeing and loads of restaurants. Fatima's customer service was first class. It makes a nice change to deal with the same person from booking to check out. We were warmly met at the apartment and were given plenty of top tips on where to go, where to eat, etc. Knowing we had an early flight to Lisbon, Fatima contacted me a couple of days before our trip to say that the apartment would be ready from 10am which was great. And whilst we did need to check out at 10am on the day we left, Fatima gave me details of a luggage storage place just around the corner, so we could fully enjoy our last day. The apartment was clean, the beds were comfortable, views were great and it had all the accessories we needed. I would certainly recommend this apartment for a group of 5+

Cockroach Valley

  • 1 of 5

I arrived in Lisbon with a bunch of friends to have a good time and visit this great city.

Upon arrival I was told once again that quiet hours start at 10pm and I need to respect the property. We were also told that the quiet hours referred to the stairwell and we could obviously hang out and have drinks upstairs after quiet hours. This was obviously not the case. We split up into groups and spent our 3 nights roaming the streets of Biarro Alto and when we came home just walking up the staircase was treated like noise. My friend asked me to turn on my cell phone light and next thing I knew I was getting calls from the property manager. Not to mention that there is a guitar player with a massive amplifier outside the front doors playing until after 23:00 and its no big deal. Upon turning on the light in the stairwell cockroaches were flying between the cracks and then in our rooms there were a few that we had to kill. Once we checked out the property manager kept half my deposit! Stating that a certain amount was for clean up and much more was for noise??? I don't know how these people charge for noise.. Is it a specific cost per word? Is it just a scam to make more income and they are working with people in the staircase?? Im not sure but it was unacceptable. If you have the ability to speak I would not recommend staying here because any form of "noise" is very expensive. Never coming back here again.

Owner's Response: We have been renting apartments in Lisbon for 10 years and we have been very lucky: guests are respectful , appreciate our apartments and our service and are pleased with their stay, as can be seen on the reviews. But unfortunately this was not the case with this group. It was by far our worst experience, the guest description of the noise they made in two days ( of their 3 day stay ) is not at all close to reality. They disturbed the building all night . This is a residential building where the respect of the quiet time and neighbors should be common sense, but to avoid problems we are also very clear in the house rules: no noise between 10 pm to 8 am (and this is a general rule for Lisbon and all Portugal, not only for our apartment of course). We had to do our best with neighbors to avoid them calling the police and following all the formal process of disturbance with the police. And the guests were very rude, unpleasant and even threatening us and the neighbors when late at night we tried to make them stop the noise. We are very glad to hear that they don't want to come back, because if they wanted we would refuse their reservation . What makes us happy is to have pleased guests with their experience and that is only possible if the guests respect the houses rules, the neighbors and us. Thank you Fatima, Paula and Eduardo

Spacious, clean, fantastic location & beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful facade and we were excited that this was our rental! The stairs were spacious which made it easier to carry our luggage up. We were a party of 6 adults and 3 kids, and it was nice to have so much space to spread out. The whole family loved the apartment that I found and everyone was happy, yay! Fatima and Sandra were very communicative and helpful and they allowed us to store our luggage in the smaller apartment while the cleaners finished up. The highchairs and baby cribs were great and the bathrooms and kitchen felt fresh and modern. Beds were comfortable and the fans in every room were SO nice. I will absolutely stay here again next time we visit Lisbon! Thanks Fatima and Sandra.

Great Location - Note no AC! (and not enough fans)

  • 3 of 5

The apartment(s) are very well located and we loved being in this area.

Lisbon was undergoing a heat wave and there were not enough fans to serve even the three bedrooms that we were using. While AC does not seem to be common in this company's apartments if you look around at neighboring apartments many units are visible - they have just made the choice not to invest in it. And while it was unusually hot during our stay I would not personally stay here again even if the temps were typical for Lisbon in the summer.

It is an older apartment and just missing the little touches, missing batteries in the remote, one towel for each person for the four night duration, the quirky need to empty all of the trash cans at the end of your stay (despite the cleaning fee).

We also had issued with the hot water (on both sides), it is a tank less unit which is common but after a few minutes the water would just run cold. You could wait a minute or two, standing there dripping and turn it on again and it would come back. A hot as it was in the apartment a cold shower was not the worse thing - I note it only because another reviewer pointed out the issue which seems not to have been fixed.
