The Barn & Stables was built in the mid to late 18th century and was originally part of Denfurlong Farm, on the edge of the pretty village of Chedworth. This is an attractive Cotswold village, with old and modern Cotswold stone houses hugging the steep sides of a valley, which extends for almost two miles along a tributary of the beautiful River Coln. The village remains unspoilt and off the beaten track, with the exception of the famous Chedworth Roman Villa, which is less than a mile from the village. Being in the heart of the Cotswolds, Chedworth is ideally located for exploring the entire region and beyond.

The present owners of The Barn & Stables have undertaken a stunning conversion of what were originally two properties into a spectacular and spacious individual house. The property retains many character features, including wooden beams, exposed stone walls and an "owl hole", which allowed owls to enter the barn to deal with vermin. The period features are complemented by the house's modern facilities, including three Freeview TVs, a DVD player, an iPad/iPhone/iPod docking station, iPod docks in every bedroom and a well equipped kitchen.

The Barn & Stables sleeps up to eight people, in four bedrooms, with three en-suite bathrooms and a family bathroom. Most of the rooms in the property overlook the large, enclosed garden, beyond which are views out over open countryside. There is also ample off-street parking on the property's drive. The layout and location of the house makes The Barn & Stables an ideal retreat for families or a group of friends.

House Rules

Booking and payment

Character Cottages is a marketing agency and we do not own or manage any of the cottages listed on our website. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.

For bookings commencing more than 10 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 10 weeks prior to arrival.

All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.

Security deposits

A security deposit of £250 is payable, which is returned after the letting period, subject to an inspection of the property. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival. In the event that the owners, or their appointed housekeepers, have to spend additional time tidying up after your departure, then the cost of this extra time may be deducted from your security deposit. The security deposit is payable prior to arrival at the property, via a bank transfer or a valid debit or credit card.

Occupancy

The maximum occupancy of The Barn & Stables, including its grounds, is eight guests, at any point in time. Please consult us prior to booking if you think that you may have more than 8 guests at the property at any point during your stay, as additional charges may apply. Over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges.

Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by two additional infants.

Pets

The Barn & Stables accepts one dog, at a cost of £25 per booking per dog.

Bed linen and towels

Bed linen and towels are provided for guests.

Arrival and departure times

Arrival time at The Barn & Stables is after 4pm and departure time is by 10am. Access is via a key safe, therefore it does not matter if you are arriving late at night.

Bedroom 1 (en-suite): King size bed

Bedroom 2: 2x single beds

Bedroom 3 (en-suite): King size bed or 2 small single beds

Bedroom 4 (downstairs, en-suite): Double bed

Fuel and logs

Electricity and gas are included in the rental price. An initial supply of logs is provided and further logs can be purchased locally.

Services provided

The Barn & Stables has free wireless internet access, three Freeview TVs, a DVD player, iPod docks in each bedroom and an iPod/iPhone/iPad dock in the living room. A telephone is also provided (UK landline calls and emergencies only), with an honesty box for the cost of calls made.

Mobile phone reception can be variable inside the property.

Parking

The Barn & Stables has off street parking, for four or more cars.

Housekeeping

Where a letting exceeds nine nights, a mid-stay clean, bed linen and towel change may be included in the price. Please check with us to confirm. Additional housekeeping services are available on request.

Child friendly facilities

A travel cot (without linen), high chair and safety gate are provided. When these items are requested, they will be left out for guests to set up themselves.The garden is fully enclosed and visible from the house, although young children should always be supervised in the garden.

Initial consumables

A small quantity of initial consumables is provided for your convenience (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, etc), however, you should not expect the quantity of these provisions to be sufficient for the duration of your stay.

Accessibility, health and safety

Although The Barn & Stables is an old, Grade II listed property, it has been refurbished to a very high modern standard and the ground floor bedroom and bathroom makes the property suitable for guests with limited mobility.

Those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the smoke alarms and could be at risk.

Smoking

No smoking is permitted throughout The Barn & Stables.
