This exquisite 6 bedroom chalet is located in the heart of the Bernese Oberland, near Aeschi bei Spiez, at the end of a private lane, 400m from the nearest house. It offers some of the most stunning views in Switzerland.
The spacious living area includes a large, comfortable lounge with breathtaking views on 3 sides, and a fireplace. The entire house was renovated in 2011 and in 2020, and features wifi, 49" flat screen TV, and 3 new bathrooms.
All bedrooms offer spectacular views. Both terraces are south facing, and, with a BBQ, are perfect for al fresco dining both in Summer and in Winter. The large garden backs onto a nature reserve. The chalet is particularly suited for those who like a wide choice of activities, in an exclusive, secluded setting.
Aeschi itself is packed with restaurants and a wide variety of things to do. Cross country skiing and extensive walking paths all pass within meters of the chalet, and some of the best downhill skiing is within a very short drive away.

Close your eyes, imagine The Sound of Music, think of Heidi and Peter, then open them and look out of the windows of Halteweidli – breath the pure mountain air, and relax! It is not rare to see deer, chamois and other wild animals grazing just under the kitchen window when you get up to make your first cup of coffee.
Walk through the nature reserve, up mountains, or along relatively flat paths, to the waterfall and enjoy a drink and something to eat at a mountain hut, or walk down to Lake Thun to take a steamer ride, or buy some freshly caught fish from the local fisherman.
Summer in Halteweidli is the most exhilarating time – the chalet is tucked away, half a kilometer from the main road, with breathtaking views from every window, as well as its’ two terraces and large garden.
The chalet is particularly child-friendly with a large split-level playroom-come-bedroom, sledges, board games, puzzles, high chair, etc. It is located right next to the largest Lama and Acapulco herd in Europe (250 animals), and in a village that offers great slopes for beginners and younger skiers.
There are so many things to do, both in the surrounding countryside, but also a bit further afield, that you just won't have time to do them all!
Visit Ballenberg open air museum and it’s 250 Swiss farm houses, Interlaken or the Top of Europe Jungfrau train, take a funicular up the Niesen for a spectacular sunset, or visit the caviar farm in Frutigen, or take a pedalo ride on the Blauesee in Kandersteg.
Within one kilometer of the chalet go Western Riding, rent an electric bike, a mountain bike, or go for a carriage ride - or just visit the local pool and it's spa.
The possibilities are endless, but lying on the terrace, far from it all, enjoying the view of the whole of the Kandertal, must be one of the nicest “activities” of them all!

In the Winter, you are in the heart of some of the best skiing in the world. Mythical names such as Wengen, Adelboden-Lenk, Kandersteg, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald and of course Gstaad are just 30 minutes away. Not to speak of the Jungfrau region. It is ideally located for those who like discovering new slopes every day, whilst enjoying the quality of life of a beautifully secluded spot in an exceptional setting.
Aeschiried itself has 4 lifts for children and beginners, but is really renown for its’ cross country skiing. Over 30km of trails, the main one passing 50m from the front door, offer both spectacular views and the peacefulness of skiing thru a nature reserve.

At Christmas, Halteweidli is in the heart of Aeschi’s Weihnachtsweg (Christmas Path), where twelve beautiful crèche scenes depicting the Christmas story illuminate a trail through the snow-covered countryside. Warm refreshments reward visitors at the end of the trail on the neighbouring Lama farm.

And of course, after a long day outside, what could be better than to relax in front of the open fire, with a nice glass of wine in your hand, surrounded by friends and family.

Beautiful, mountain chalet with breathtaking views
We are a family of 5 (2 adults, 2 teenagers and an 8 year old) and had a lovely stay in Halteweidli. The chalet was clean, well-equipped, spacious and nicely furnished. I particularly liked the parquet wooden floors and large windows. The mountain and valley views from the chalet were spectacular and there were some great walks from the front door. We spotted plenty of wildlife in the garden and surrounding meadows - deer, foxes, eagles and something that looked a lot like a weasel. While the chalet is secluded and peaceful, two nearby villages with restaurants and shops are within walking distance. Halteweidli was also a good base for trips to the best of the Bernese Oberland - including the two large lakes either side of Interlaken (Thunnersee and Briensee), Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald and the nearby high mountain peaks (Eiger, Jungfrau, First and Monch). All in all, it was the perfect escape. Toby

Highly recommended for an active holiday.
Great location with stunning views. The property has all you need for a short or longer summer break. We had 2 weeks and still had plenty of unexplored places we could have visited. Good communication with the owner, who provided exceptionally detailed instructions and advice.

Great place with beautiful views
Had a big family party and despite the relentless rain we had a really good time. The children loved the place, it was really child friendly. Could recommend it for big family or like us extended family.

A great location with stunning views
The description of the property was accurate, well equipped and felt said we were guests staying in a home rather than a holiday let. The location was secluded yet within easy reach of the local village amenities and the tourist information office staff were very helpful. The property was very clean and comfortable. The additional storage/ utility areas were useful and we enjoyed eating ontheterrace each day. The owner provided prompt and helpful advice and additional information before and during our stay.We would recommend this accommodation to friends and hope to return.

About the host

Hosted by Jane Royston

Host profile image
I grew up in Switzerland in England, and I've spent most of my adult life in Switzerland. I married into a Swiss family who come from the tiny mountain village of Aeschi, and Halteweidli is their family home.
I serve as director on a number of high-tech companies, and four charities, and live near Geneva. I have two wonderful daughters.

Why they chose this property

The chalet was the dream chalet my in-laws built when they retired. They had always walked along the trail that passes the chalet, and had always sat in the meadow where it is built for their picnic, dreaming of one day being able to build their house there. And that is exactly what they did.
I bought the chalet in 2011 and have renovated it completely: replaced the roof completely, putting triple glazed windows in, changing the bathrooms, and putting in solar heating.

What makes this property unique

The chalet has to be seen and lived in to believe. It is really unique. It has amazing views from all sides. A sweeping view of the Thunersee and all the mountains on one side, and right down the Kandertal on the other side, through big bay windows make you feel as if you're in paradise every time you look out.
As it's set completely on its own (400m from the nearest house), at the end of a long private lane, deer, foxes, squirrels, are often seen quietly grazing or walking nearby. It is a perfect antidote to the stressful life I live.
