Overview

About the property

Self-catering, heated private pool, 9 bedrooms, grounds

La Sauzade is a beautiful country house, built in the 18th century, within walking distance of the historic village Aubeterre-sur-Dronne. The house is intended to be my home rather than just a holiday let and every detail has been chosen with that approach in mind.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Nearly all of the rooms look over the front lawn and swimming pool.

The ground floor consists of a large kitchen with substantial (2 m diameter) table, sitting room or family room, entrance hall, dining room, library. Behind the dining room and library is a down stairs bedroom with dressing room, stone fireplace, and its own bathroom. (Bedrooms are described below).

The house is furnished with antique furniture, as well as a wide screen Sony TV, separate TV, two play stations, DVD player, impressive DVD collection, table tennis, etc.

I am now taking bookings for weeks in 2017. If you are interested in booking during the summer holidays (or half term) in 2017 I strongly recommend that you book now.

PLEASE NOTE THAT CHANGEOVER DURING THE SEASON IS ON A FRIDAY UNLESS AGREED OTHERWISE

Why Justin chose Charente

Please see the reviews written by previous guests. The house has a lovely feel - it swallows people up and makes a great venue for a party of 15 adults and children. The pool is a total suntrap.

Magical Holiday

  • 5 of 5

While the photos of the house are stunning, they do not do justice to the house in real life which is just gorgeous. Grand but comfortable and with so much space. We were five families with children from 1 to 7 and all had the most wonderful time. The house has everything you could need and all the bedrooms are large and airy with the most comfortable beds. The grounds are huge and the kids were off for hours exploring and picking fruit from the trees. The pool is a godsend and always warm. The area itself is beautiful and we spent almost every day the river beach with wonderful swimming and a lovely little cafe. We have decided to come back every two years and make it a tradition as the children grow up. Cant thank you enough for letting us stay in your home. Best holiday!

A great family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at La Sauzade in June with two other couples with pre-school children. The house was perfect for us: plenty of space indoors and out, especially for the children. The weather was hot and sunny, but the heated pool was still a real bonus for the infants, who splashed happily all week. A valuable holiday and we hope to return.

Charming, beautiful, better than we imagined

  • 5 of 5

Lovely house - very pretty, a very well equipped kitchen, characterful spacious and beautiful bedrooms, a lovely sunny garden with pool. We were a group of 8 adults and 6 toddlers and we were happy all week playing in the house, garden, pool, or exploring the local area. The house is a short walk to Aubeterre: with several restaurants, shops, a boulangerie, historic buildings, small river beach and more. There was so much to do during our week's stay including trips to swim in lakes nearby, the monolithic church. A great holiday! Thank you.

A perfect house for a small gathering

  • 5 of 5

Our family and friends stayed at La Sauzade for 9 days in May and completely fell in love with the house, the grounds, the local village and the surrounding area.

The owner was at all times responsive and helpful leading up to the visit. A local family was available to sort out issues like bedding and getting the hot water turned on for us. They were very knowledgeable and helpful about the area and they even recommended and booked a local restaurant for our large group. They also advised about where to get provisions on the long weekend.

The house itself is difficult to describe. It is a large old manor with many rooms that then have smaller rooms running off of them. We were all very curious about the house and wanted to know more about its history. The second floor is labyrinth of rooms with the most gorgeous, large, king size beds with luxurious linens. We slept very comfortably. The kitchen is large and welcoming with a very large and perfect round table where we all gathered at many points to discuss the next meal and the next bottle of wine. At the same time it was easy to find a quiet spot away to sit and read. There is also a beautiful terrace that is perfect for watching birds and other small creatures or to just sit in the sun.

It was warm enough on a few of the days to swim and the pool was in a bit of a suntrap and hidden by walls. There is also a pond. Altogether a wonderful house that suited us very well and many in our group wanted to come back again on an annual basis.

Disappointinng

  • 1 of 5

Not gorgeous, overall a very shabby house, outbuildings, pool and gardens. Ripped sofa and chair in the hall. Mouse and lizard in the kitchen. Two of the single beds were uncomfortable and in my opinion the house is not suitable for 15 persons. The mosquitos were terrible.
