Tranquil Setting in peaceful countryside - Both with their own private pool

Self catering accommodation near Bergerac in the Dordogne.

Two stunning Properties - Starling Lodge & Oak Lodge. Each property comes with its own private enclosed pool.

Starling Lodge - 18th Century charming farmhouse with a modern twist. Can accommodate upto 18 persons comfortably with a large veranda for alfresco dining.

Oak Lodge, a stunning 17th century barn which has been renovated to the highest standards throughout. The bespoke kitchen is equipped with all mod cons including oak fitted units and granite work tops. The kitchen leads onto a grande lounge with a galleried landing and views over the garden.

These magnificent properties are set in 15 acres of peaceful countryside. The perfect location for a large family/friend gathering. Beautiful landscaped gardens with plenty of shady areas to avoid the miday sun. Weekend and short breaks available out of season

Local activities: FISHING

You may buy a fishing licence in the local stationers that will give you 15 days permission to fish anywhere on the River Dordogne. The cost of this is just 30 Euros and there are many beautiful spots to choose from where you may take the family for a picnic while you are busy catching the bar-b-Que for your evening meal!

BIRD WATCHING

The area boasts many different breeds of birds and several of our enthusiastic guests have returned from trips very excited at having spotted unusual species that are not widely found in UK.

HOT AIR BALLOON

Trips of varying times are available to see the area from the air. There are several pick up points and prices are inexpensive. Why not take a birds eye look at your holiday venue? A very different way to see the beautiful countryside around.

KAYAKING AND CANOEING

On the edge of Le Fleix is the quayside where you may hire kayaks and canoes. You have the choice of a 1, 2 or 6 hour trip on the river and the company who hire out the canoes will take you, with your canoe, life jacket and picnic if you have one, up the river to your starting point. They see you safely off and drive back to their base where you have left your car. You make your way down the river, dropping the canoe off and picking up your car at the end of your trip. This is a really fun day for all the family.

GLIDING

5 minutes drive will take you to Fougerolles where there is a private airfield from which you may book a gliding trip or even lessons for the more adventurous. Once again, this is inexpensive and prices depend on your choice of trip or lesson.

LAC DE GURSON

The Gurson lake is found on an 18 ha domain and features two large lakes (one for fishing) aquatique toboggans, pedalos, mini-golf, horse rides, tennis, kids games and a picnic area. Located at Carsac de Gurson.

Ideal day our for all of the family

Great September Break at Oak Lodge

  • 5 of 5

Our party of 8 adults arrived on a lovely September evening to find a haven of tranquillity .Oak lodge accommodation was more like a 5/6 star hotel with a

lovely welcome pack on arrival. After our evening meal we unpacked our suitcases

and retired to bed.

While having breakfast on the 1st morning we found all literature on the surrounding countryside, something to wet all our appetites from a round of golf to wine tasting. All within a short driving distance.

The site where Oak Lodge is so much more than the pictures. The swimming pool is

set in beautiful grounds with plenty of shady places to avoid the midday sun. The pool table, table tennis table and badminton were used loads by the men who decided to hold their own mini Olympics. A lovely walk around the grounds going across to where the oak trees are, with a seat under them, I spent time many an evening, enjoying the view and watching the sun go down on yet another enjoyable day.

All in all a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

Oak Lodge - absolutely fantastic

  • 5 of 5

I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. More than a home from home. Large property beautifully presented and with excellent specifications and facilities. We stayed as 2 families of four. 5 double or twin rooms with 3 ensuite and further bathroom, split across 2 sides of the house with was ideal. There is a kitchen with everything you could possibly need (massive fridge, icemaker, 2 drawer dishwasher, 2 ovens), wi-fi, games, books, DVDs etc. The outside space (which is not pictured on the website) is superb. There is a large open barn attached to the property with sofas, dining table, gas and charcoal BBQs, table tennis, pool table. Plus private outdoor pool, badminton and plenty of flat grassy areas - all in all perfect for kids to have fun and not run out of things to do all holiday.

Weather was perfect - ate every meal outside - and surrounding areas picturesque and interesting. Nearest town St Foy La Grande with weekly market and canoeing. Bergerac 40 mins and St Emilion 50 mins well worth a trip with medieval buildings and numerous fantastic restaurants. Large LeClerc 15 mins.

Owners were friendly and extremely helpful. We would definitely go back.

Beautiful location and lovely villa

  • 5 of 5

The accomodation was larger than expected, there was more than enough room for our party of 5 adults and 3 children (one bedroom was not used at all). The grounds are great for the children especially the trampoline and playground as well as the 2 pools.

The location is only 10 mins from large supermarket and 15 mins from centre of Bergerac which is a great place for some sightseeing and eating out.

You need a car as the local village has limited facilities but is a nice walk and all the people are very friendly and most speak english.

Bordeaux and St Emilion are close enough to visit and both recommended.

Overall a great place to stay and I would happily go back next year!

Location

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Bergerac at 17 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : St Foy De La Grande at 7 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Chateau des Vigiers at 10 Kilometres Nearest Train : St Foy de La Grande at 7 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Le Fleix at 1 Kilometres Car: recommended

Le Fleix village is just over 1km and has a small supermarket, post office, petrol station, 2 bakers, butcher, bar/restaurant and 2 hair dressers. It's a pleasant walk or you may borrow one of our bicycles if you are feeling not quite so energetic. Ste Foy La Grande, a charming old bastide town set on the River Dordogne with delightful town centre, is 7km and has a superb Saturday market, larger supermarkets and a multitude of other shops and restaurants. Bergerac is 17 kms and is also an old bastide town set on the river Dordogne and also with a picturesque town centre surrounded by restaurants. There are many shops, boutiques and supermarkets here too. The airport is just outside the town and is less than 20 minutes from our house. GOLF 15 minutes drive from Le Fleix is the superb golf course of Les Vigiers. This is an 18 hole course and is testing enough to satisfy regular golfers but not too tough for the lesser player. Green fees are very reasonable.

Other Activities: hot air ballooning, Canoeing

Golf: 15 minutes drive from Le Fleix is the superb golf course of Les Vigiers. This is an 18 hole course and is testing enough to satisfy regular golfers but not too tough for the lesser player. Green fees are very reasonable and you may hire clubs and buggy.

Les Vigiers also has a swimming pool, a bistro-style restaurant and the more expensive restaurant for a special night out in the chateau. There is also a health spa and fitness salon so that the ladies can enjoy pampering themselves whilst their menfolk fight it out on the course.
