Guejar Sierra is a pretty, village with outdoor dining in and around the plaza in summer, views from every corner, quaint shops and great choice of tapas bars and restaurants within strolling distance. Just 30 mins from the ski lifts (and 20 from the historic centre of Granada) - this is an unspoilt location with a great local culinary tradition and a generous tapas culture. You will find prices here much cheaper than in the international ski resort or the centre of Granada. Ski equipment can also be hired locally in the village, avoiding long queues in the main resort. Ski passes and lessons can also be pre-booked.

The property is ideally equipped to accommodate between 2 and 6 people. However for even larger groups we can provide a quality double sofa-bed (or child's cot/z bed) on request. We strive to offer attractive rates whatever the size of your group. Our tariff is based on our overheads per occupant - so couples and smaller groups can enjoy our additional space and lovely terrace at the lower tariff for a 1 or 2 bed flat as appropriate - without paying extra for the bedrooms they don't need. The apartment therefore represents equally great value - whether for 2, 4, 6 or 8 people. Rates showing are the base rate for 2 people, additional guests at just 3 euros per night.
This large, well-furnished and family friendly apartment enjoys beautiful views of the Sierra Nevada mountains (dual aspect windows and French Doors in the living and dining areas give this space literally 'wraparound scenery'). On the practical side, the price includes central heating in winter, air-conditioning in summer, secure parking, high standard of furnishings & equipment. The village is a fabulous year round location for both summer holidays and winter skiing and the apartment offers a relaxed, comfortable home-base from which to enjoy everything that this richly diverse region has to offer.
Family Friendly -
The twin room has it's own TV and DVD player (in addition to the HDTV internet-connected Smart TV in the living room). We also provide an extensive DVD library, books and games, plus a small pool/snooker table for family fun and some equipment for smaller visitors (please tell us at the time of booking if you need our 'toddler pack' with cot, highchair seat adaptor, or an additional Z bed for a child in the master bedroom). The village itself is very child friendly - all of the restaurants welcome children and there is also a lovely new play park.
The apartment has a comfortable ensuite master bedroom (with double bed), which opens onto the terrace. The second bedroom also has a double bed and the third is equipped with twin beds. For even larger groups there is also a quality double sofabed in the spacious living room. There is a well equipped kitchen, and two bathrooms (a large, family bathroom in addition to the en-suite).
The private terrace has ample space for dining and lounging amid the lovely mountain views. It is also equipped with a large garden table and chairs, daybed, loungers, and a BBQ. The covered section of the terrace has the games area with pool table.
The location is only 20 mins from Granada/Alhambra Palace and about 30 mins from the ski resort. The pretty coves of the Costa Tropical are also within easy reach with 45 mins - with some great 'chiringuitas' where you can eat fresh fish right on the beach. The traditional white village of Guejar Sierra itself has great tapas bars, restaurants, local shops, pharmacy, bank and two lovely pools in summer. Our friendly keyholders are happy to give advice and can help organize chef services, tapas tours, hiking, biking, horse-riding, canoeing, treasure hunts for children and babysitting.
Guejar Sierra is also famous for its cherries - so just ask our keyholders if you wish to sample some local, organic, cherry jam!
Sierra Nevada ski resort:
The apartment is ideally placed for skiing at Pradollano (Sol y Nieve Ski Resort) in the Sierra Nevada. The Sierra Nevada boasts the highest downhill runs in Europe as well as being the most southerly - so it often enjoys better snow than the Alps. The resort - with its superb services and installations was built for the Winter Olympics and offers its visitors a wide range of facilities and a ski terrain to suit skiers & boarders of all standards. There are 70km of ski runs, 45 pistes and 300 snow machines guaranteeing snow on the slopes. There is also night skiing by floodlight! As one of Europe's highest resorts it has a surprisingly long season and traditionally opens at the end of November running through to the end of April or even into the first week of May. The resort is so far south that the climate is superb for brushing up on your tan and on clear days there are views of Africa from the top!
Competitive pricing based on number of occupants not size of property (ie: smaller groups mean smaller overheads in terms of laundry/electricity etc - we onpass these savings to the customer in order to offer the best value for a property of this size and standard).
For larger groups of friends wishing to travel together - we can rent the apartment together with the small 1 bedroomed apartment next door, or with a choice of 2 bedroomed apartments in the same building.
GETTING TO US & GETTING AROUND
We are happy to share advice on flights/routes/timings/car hire etc which we have found to be cheapest.
Guejar Sierra is great base for visiting Granada and has an excellent bus link so - depending on the type of holiday you envision - car hire may not be necessary.
Handy cheap ski hire (inc magnetic ski carrier for car) and/or transport up to the ski lifts now available right from the village. Please ask for further info. Same company offers horse-riding and mountain bike hire in summer.

This apartment suited our holiday requirements perfectly. We planned to ski in Sierra Nevada and walk within the national park. It proved to be a good choice being only 25 minute drive to the ski resort which was an interesting journey not for the faint hearted or vertigo sufferers! We walked from the house along a beautiful river through a gorge with spectacular views. The views from the house were delightful and the terrace was a perfect place to breakfast even in January. The house was tastefully appointed with plenty of room for six or more. The village location suited us perfectly, we enjoyed sampling the local tapas and frequented a fabulous little restaurant called Sulayr. Christina served gorgeous veggie and other tasty foods with such friendly service. She speaks English and was a helpful local guide. The village itself was worth visiting and the locals were very welcoming. We would definitely want to visit again.

This apartment is lovely. It is situated in a lovely village in the Sierra Nevadas with a gorgeous view of the village and surrounding mountains from the livingroom and the terrace. We stayed for 8 days exploring the surrounding area of Andalusia. Rosie, the caretaker, was wonderful. She checked in with us, made suggestion of things to do and see and was so friendly. The apartment is even better than the pictures. The apartment is situated in a quiet area close enough to the center to enjoy the cafes, retaurants and pandarias easily within a 5 minute walk. The beds are comfortable and there are 2 bathrooms. We loved everything and would come again in a heartbeat.
Beautiful apartment and village
Wonderful place. Very nice apartment and lovely town. We stayed there for over a month, and there was so much to do- walking, good restaurants, swimming, horseback riding, lots of day trips to different villages, sightseeing in Granada. Hope to go back one day.
My wife and I had a wonderful holiday. The apartment was really lovely. Spacious, clean, nice decor, great wifi and spectacular views.
The town of Güejar Sierra is absolutely lovely. Unspoilt and friendly. We felt privileged to be there.
We went swimming in the local reservoir, it was an amazing experience.
The bus service to Granada is great, & considering it's half way up a mountain thats pretty impressive!
Denise was really helpful with our questions after we had booked and Rosie & Graham (the key holders) really went out of their way to welcome us and help us out over our stay.
Definitely would recommend staying here and hope to return again sometime soon.

Great stay in a unique location
Really enjoyed our stay in this lovely apartment. Fantastic to wake up every morning and open the blinds in the living room, to be knocked out by the sun shining on the village and fabulous mountain views stretching in two directions. Although the days were warm and sunny in early May - the tops of the mountains were still snow-capped and we had an enjoyable drive up to the ski resort one day to enjoy chocolate and churros in the snow, and the vistas over Granada on the way back down.
The apartment itself was clean and well-equipped and actually looked even better than in the photos, as the owners have apparently recently upgraded some of the furniture and fittings.
We were hospitably welcomed on arrival by the lovely Rosie, who is clearly a real asset. Following her local recommendations we enjoyed generous tapas at the Juan Francisco hotel and a great meal overlooking the river at Casa Chiquito - just down the hill at El Charcon (quite an adventure to get there through the tunnels too!). We explored the area from Granada down to the coast, visiting the Alhambra (you definitely need to pre-book to get a ticket in May), the Lecrin Valley, the rescue zoo at Pena Escrita (worth the visit if you are brave enough to make the drive), and the caves at Nerja. We also had another lovely meal at El Penon Restaurant - right on the rocks in Salobrena (following a recommendation from Denise).
We felt that we had barely touched the surface of all that this location had to offer, when it was time to leave.
Would love to return.

Our second stay in this lovely apartment in the beautiful mountain village of Guejar Sierra. We stayed in late December. Fabulous weather. Enjoyed the traditional Christmas market in the village square. This is such a friendly and welcoming community with a great choice of places to eat and drink within strolling distance from the property. The apartment has such lovely views and is beautifully presented and equipped. Booking through Denise was easy and straightforward and Rosie the keyholder is a very welcoming and lovely lady. We have now been here in a couple of different seasons - but still feel that the area has more to offer. Next time we are going to venture some skiing as the ski resort is only 35 mins away. Guejar is a great base for skiing - much cheaper than up in the resort and a much prettier and more 'Spanish' village. We will be back!

El Ladero Grande is a lovely place to be whatever the season and is the perfect base for those who are seeking to combine a number of different elements into their holiday. Güejar is a great base for a huge variety of activities - mountain biking, walks of all levels, climbing, canoeing, rafting, fishing, paragliding, horse-riding, winter skiing and summer fiestas. And all of this is only 20 mins from Granada - a great place to wander the tree-lined plazas, sample the tapas, listen to real flamenco and simply enjoy the traditional Spanish ambiance of this lovely city.”
Activity and Interests
Traditional white mountain village with cobbled streets in a stunning location 20 min. East of historic Granada (Alhambra Palace) and 20 min. from the Sierra Nevada ski resort (Pradollano). Beautiful views abound everywhere & many local restaurants traditionally open up swimming pools in the summer or lakeside/riverside dining terraces overlooking the Rio Genil or the blue waters of the Canales Reservoir. Great family activity location, walks begin from the doorstep and there are also opportunities for mountain-biking, horse-riding, climbing, canoeing, paragliding. This is also a great base from which to explore historic Granada, with its beautiful Moorish buildings, Alhambra Palace & fascinating Moroccan bazaar. Costa Tropical Beaches - 45 min. Guadix caves - 35 min. Water Park - 20 min. Also great romantic getaway for couples with excellent restaurants, or just a place to relax, enjoy the welcoming Spanish atmosphere & while the day away with free tapas.

Golf: There are now three golf courses in Granada and more within reasonable driving distance such as the one at Motril on the Costa Tropical 9 holes). The 18 hole Granada Club de Golf is signposted from Armilla. No reservations necessary. Clubs can be hired and if you play in the morning, the cost for 18 holes is approximately 20 Euro (more on Sundays and festivals).
Ski: Skiing is available at the Sierra Nevada ski resort. At over 9000 ft it is one of the highest resorts in Europe and can be reached from Guejar Sierra within 20 min. An international ski school is available on site. There are 70km of ski runs, 45 pistes (with more than enough variety to suit all levels), 300 snow machines and views of Africa from the top.
This is the most southerly ski resort in Europe and, while smaller than some of the other major European resorts, the facilities are considered top rate and it has therefore hosted numerous national and international ski events. With great family facilities on offer as well, Sierra Nevada defies many concepts associated with skiing. Located at barely a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean coast, it has practically guaranteed sunshine, the best spring snow conditions in Europe and is still reasonably priced compared to many of its European counterparts.

“In an area of knock-out views - the view from the sun terrace and living room of this property still manage to stand out from the crowd! I bought the property off-plan, but even half-finished and unplastered, I fell in love with it the moment I first stepped into the huge, sunlit space of the living room with the panoramic vista of the mountains sweeping around it. There were initially only the French doors and the windows at the front - but realising that the apartment was situated on the corner of the building, I asked the developer to add the side windows and doors to really bring the mountains into the apartment. We also added central heating and air conditioning to the original plans, to ensure that the apartment is comfortable and a great place to be in any season. Above all, this is a place to relax. It can provide a romantic getaway for couples and has been the venue for more than one honeymoon. But it's great for families too - large enough for teenagers to enjoy their own space, and simple, safe and practical enough for toddlers. Its a fantastic base for going out and exploring Granada or enjoying a day on the mountain - and its also a great place for staying in and topping up your tan on the sunny terrace, or simply watching the sun set behind the mountain while you enjoy a long tall glass of something. The little village of Güejar Sierra, with its cobbled streets and flower draped balconies is something of an undiscovered gem - a well kept Spanish secret. This is where the local Granadinos come to enjoy the best of all that the Sierra Nevada can offer.”
