Gulliver is a fascinating, family friendly house situated in the heart of the medieval hilltop village of Castello at a cool, fresh 450mt. on the beautiful Tuscan island of Giglio. The house has been beautifully restored, maintaining its original characteristics, using the latest technology. With Wi-Fi Internet Access and 2 Maxi screen LED TV',s for the Family. It comprises a large, well equipped kitchen/dining room with marble worktops & wall TV, 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms sleeping 7/9.

The Family bedroom/sitting room (slps 4) with TV, Internet access, fireplace and luxury, one- pull, fully made-up, kingsize sofa bed and its own bathroom. This sunny room also has a mezzanine gallery with 2 extra single beds and windows looking across the rooftops to the ancient church tower.

Bedroom Blue has a Kingsize 4 poster bed, 1 single bed and ensuite bathroom.

Bedroom Sky is a low ceilinged attic bedroom with King bed and little ensuite bathroom. Like its neighbours, in the little medieval village, Gulliver is built almost vertically, on different levels.

Life in Castello is typical of Tuscan medieval villages, with its sunshine colours, its sounds, the churchbells signalling the various moments of the day, the sight of people greeting each other, and the mouthwatering scents of Italian cooking early in the morning, as you wander down to the baker's to get your fresh bread. Giglio loves music! In August Trad.Jazz can be heard in the evenings, played spontaneously by musicians who come to Giglio for their annual stay. The summer season brings a varied programme of entertainment with Concerts, local theatre with evocative weekly performances under the stars in Castello, classical music concerts and many other Musical attractions such as Opera Week with Operas performed outside with renowned singers and orchestra etc. For those who enjoy markets, Castello offers various market days with the latest in Italian house linen: cotton sheets from Florence, well known sports brands for an extra pair of Italian trunks or a bikini.(Save space in your trolley!- Beach towels are inexpensive and worth buying on arrival). The fresh vegetable stall is a must, with delicious grapes, apricots, peaches, melons, fresh spinach, aubergines, home grown tomatoes and huge peppers.

And the beaches! A magnificent choice- a 10 minute drive or bus ride will take you down to Campese Bay with miles of quartz & pirite sand, (free beach areas for your own umbrella) or beach establishments with everything from anti-uvs umbrellas, to loungers, windsurfers, pedal boats, childrens playgrounds, swimming lessons, Scuba Diving Trips & boat hire. Campese Bay has home made ice cream, a pizza baker's, where you can buy a large slice for your lazy lunch on the beach, maybe followed by grapes or peaches from the greengrocers and a big bottle of acqua minerale, and an English novel from the newspaper shop. Giglio has two other beaches which are completely different: Le Cannelle has white soft sand and shallow water- perfect for small children and then Arenella - secluded, with different sand and sea views across to the mainland.Other bays can be discovered around the island, accessible from boats.(Guided or hired). Day Trips are available from Porto to other Tuscan islands.

The island offers mapped Hiker's Walks with shady pinewoods, donkey tracks down to the sea and exceptional views. Springtime is a riot of coloured flowers and perfume, where country walks become an unforgettable experience.

Along its waterfront, Porto has plenty of restaurants and pavement cafès and Pizzerias, most offering fresh fish. Different shops specialise in Italian Ceramics and fashionwear .It is an interesting little port. The bustle of the Ferry arrivals and departures mix with holiday-makers, fresh from the beach, taking a refreshing evening 'Aperitivo', while relaxing in one of the many waterfront pavement cafès to watch the world go by.

Why Geraldine Hynes chose Isola del Giglio

Gulliver is situated in a tiny medieval town on top of the beautiful island of Giglio in Tuscany and has been passed down through the family for generations. It has been our joy to have been able to renovate it completely to our own satisfaction, so it is very family friendly and is still dearly loved and enjoyed by the family for our own holidays. The splendid sandy beaches are only 10mins. drive by car or bus. Castello has good restaurants and a pizzeria where one is served outside on the street tables where you can watch the world go by! and the Porto is another fascinating typical little Italian town, with good a choice of Restaurants and pizzerias of every kind, serving freshly caught fish and other gastronomic delicacies. Not to mention the 20 flavours of artisan ice cream

What makes this house unique

A slice of real Italian country life. A chance to see a local community that care about their Festivals, their neighbours and their traditions. Children play Cops & Robbers happily inside the village walls and are free of cars or traffic. On Festa Days or Birthdays, people put their tables & chairs out on the little streets and share celebrations and dishes they make with their friends & neighbours. The.Cantina Wine Festival week in September sees the whole of the village preparing different Specialities on tables in the streets or in the Cantina's (wine cellars), to the sound of singing and guitars. Everyone joins in!

Being an Island, the air is fresh and sweet and the sun kisses the Ansonaco grapes of this renowned local, wholesome Wine-The Vino Ansonaco.

Castello is a medieval hilltop village situated 450mt. above sea level on the beautiful island of Giglio (pronounced 'Jeelyo'). The little village is encircled by its ancient fortified walls originally built by the Medici. The views from outside the walls at 360° are breathtaking. From one side can be seen other Tuscan Islands, such as Monte Cristo, Elba and Corsica beyond and from another can be seen the mainland, monte Argentario, the Italian coast and the islands of Pianosa and Giannutri. Spectacular Sunrises and Sunsets. The little village of Castello is fascinating, living inside the walls is a unique experience like going back 800 years but with all modern amenities. The village of Castello is listed as 'Uno dei borghi piu belli d'Italia' -- 'One of the finest little towns in Italy and is protected by the Belle Arte di Siena as a historic monument. Gulliver is situated in the heart of this typical medieval township and is a typical example of the architecture. The island has always produced wine in its vineyards with the Ansonaco grape which suits the its geography and climate. There is Wine Festival in late September where one can taste the wine and the local cuisine to the sound of original Giglio music, or storytelling in the various cantinas inside Castello.
