Character Property in Medieval Saint-Aignan

Two bedroom modern comfort in character building.

The Stables were converted into an apartment in 2009. It is mainly of stone construction, with some brick ornamentation. The bedrooms have vaulted ceilings and original beams. Each has a private bathroom. The fixtures and fittings are of high quality and are tastefully assembled. There are views of the river and Town Bridge from both rooms. Bedroom 1 has a surface area of 30 m², Bedroom 2 has 21.5 m².

On the ground floor there is a large sitting room/ kitchen, ( 27.6 m²). Two walls are of stone, one of which is tuffeau, the names of the horses which one time lived here remain on the wall. The ceiling has the original beams.There is a television which can be adjusted to receive British or French programmes. The kitchen has a fan assisted oven and induction hob.The building has double glazing throughout and is well insulated.

Outside there is a gated courtyard for parking and an enclosed garden/ terrace.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! My wife and I had actually 'looked' at the appartment on Google maps and were pleased to see that it was right across the street from the river Cher (the one that Chenonceau straddles further upstream.

On our arrival, Alan made us welcome, showed us the marvelously redone stables,(no lingering evidence except for the names of favourite horses on the walls in the main room), gave us the key, and answered our questions about the area. VERY helpful; he even lent me the use of his piano to practice on.

The town is delightful, off the beaten tourist track, but with it's own chateau (not open to the public) a towering presence. It's very well situated to visit various attractions, about equidistant from chateaux along the Loire, Cher, and Indre rivers, most within a 20-30 minute drive.

You can't go wrong if you decide to stay here.

The Stables, perfect in every way.

There is nothing bad to say about the "Stables"

Alan was a generous host, although onsite, he kept to himself, but was always there, when hubby popped up with a question.

Large living and dining, with fully equipped and functioning large kitchen.

Both bedrooms, were large and ensuited.

The building was full of character and French charm.

Tv was equipped with English speaking channels, and all rooms had sufficient heating. In the front entry way, there was brouchers and books on the area, that we found most helpful, in planning ours days.

The wifi was free, and although we had a little problem with it, Alan was able to get it running in no time again.

Laundry was outside, and communal. But, there was an outside line, but we borrowed Alans fold up portable inside line, and sat it beside the heater.

The building was just a walk into town, where we found a baker, a butcher, a small supermarket, and plenty of place to eat. It was also extremely central to all the Chateau's, and the bustling town of Tours.

We would like to thank Alan for his hospitality, and would have no problems recommending and/or staying in the Stables again.

A lovel place to spend a week or longer

The property at Saint Aignan is an airy spacious 2 bedroom property, with stunning views of the river and bridge. It has two modern and large en-suite shower rooms. The property is maintained to a high level, is clean and comfortable.

Its a lovely place to stay and has all the amenities that you might need during your stay.

The town itself is a delight with lovely architecture, plenty of good places to eat or have a drink. There is an island between the two rivers and on hot days the locals sunbath here and swim in the river, something my two daughters also enjoyed. There is also a municipal indoor and outdoor swimming pool over the bridge if you don't like the idea of swimming in the river and once you've finished swimming you can do what the French do and sunbath on the pool's lawns.

Alan is an accommodating host and is very helpful.

Wonderful place to stay

Saint Aignan is a wonderful place to spend time in. Lovely architecture, friendly locals, plenty of good places to eat and handy for touring the local area. The rental property is of high quality, spacious and ideal for a family of 4.

We spent a week in this beautiful property, and we could have stayed forever! Not only is the apartment beautiful, clean and comfortable, Alan and Brenda were gracious and helpful hosts. St.Aignan was the perfect location for exploring the chateaux of the Loire Valley. It is lovely, quiet, and very friendly. We really enjoyed exploring and buying fresh produce and prepared foods from the Saturday market. Do not miss the roasted chicken or the paella available from the vendors there.

The photos do not do justice to how lovely this house is. Spotless, well equipped and owners are so helpful and friendly. We loved our stay and would definitely stay again as it really is a lovely house and fantastic location to explore the loire. Well furnished/decorated and roomy for a two bedroomed let

Wonderful Property, Great Location!

A week in this wonderful property and charming town was not enough. The photos, while accurate, cannot do justice to the spaciousness and comfort of the renovated stables. The bathrooms are the largest and nicest of any property I have ever rented. The whole place was very clean and Alan spent time to ensure that we knew how everything worked before leaving us on our own. There is English television, but I believe he could have also gotten us French tv if we had wanted it.

Alan and his wife were very pleasant and helpful. Anytime we needed anything, Alan was available. We had everything we needed to cook several meals in the kitchen and the bedrooms stayed cool on the warm evenings.

The only problem we had was the spotty internet access inside the building. However, Alan was actively working on that issue while we were there. We had access from the window in one bedroom and on the veranda by Alan's office. While not what we would have liked, it certainly was adequate.

The town has restaurants, bars, a chateau and church to be visited. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful. The boulangerie just up the street had outstanding bread and pastries. We missed the Saturday market, but went to a small evening one that was quite fun.

St. Aignan is in a wonderful location to visit chateaux and other sites in the eastern Loire Valley. Many are only a short drive away. We could have headed west of Tours, as well, but chose to limit ourselves to the chateaux east of that town. The local zoo ( 5 minutes outside of town) is one of the nicest I have been to. The shows (birds of prey and sea lions) were outstanding.

There are several grocery stores and gas stations nearby which had everything we needed. There is a lot of traffic in town, more than you might expect, but it never bothered us during the day or at night. The private parking area is a definite bonus, as well.

I highly recommend this town and this property. The owners are excellent to work with and it was a delight to stay in their lovely property.

The Stables, situated on the banks of the river Cher, and in the historic town of Saint-Aignan, is an ideal base for exploring the ' Valley of Kings'. Within 30 mins drive you can visit the chateaux of Chenonceau, Valençay, Loches,Chambord, Cheverny, Amboise, and many others. The beautiful city of Blois, with it's fine chateau, restaurants and bars and eclectic shops, is also within 30mins.drive. A little further afield (40 min) you will find Amboise, it's chateau,and large twice weekly market and to the west, the fascinating city of Tours.

If you do not wish to drive, Saint-Aignan offers plenty to see and do. The Collegiale (church) dates back to the 11th Century, and has fresco's in the crypt dating from that time, you are free to enter and see for yourself.

Wine-making has been going on in and around Saint-Aignan for centuries and many vignerons have caves open to the public for tasting and purchase of their products.

Saint-Aignan is home to the world renowned 'Zoo Park Beauval', It's white tigers, and giant pandas are especially interesting, a great family day out.
