About this property

A beautiful stone cottage in the heart of the Suisse Normande, Normandy

A 2 bedroom, 4 person cosy country cottage for holiday let.

La Vieille Longère is an ancient Norman long-house, dating back to the early 1600's, situated in a tranquil hamlet of three stone- built houses.

The Gite forms part of the long-house and is the most recent addition, dating from about 1770 and was used as a 'Maison du Tisserand' where traditional lace was once made.

Located in the heart of what is known as La Suisse Normande, La Vieille Longère provides high quality accommodation from which to base your holiday in this beautiful part of France

Restored by the Owners in 2011, the Gite offers cosy and beautifully decorated accommodation for four people in two bedrooms, one a large double with exposed beams, the other a twin room, both sharing a bathroom equipped with a powerful shower.

The rooms are all centrally heated in colder weather but there is a stunning Esse Ironheart woodburning stove with an oven and hotplates for those who wish to use it.

Wonderful week in Suisse Normandy
We had a fab week here this year. The gite is beautiful, so well equipped, comfy and a real home from home. It was so peaceful that we struggled to wake up in the mornings (the addition of two teenagers didn't help either!). There is just nothing to disturb you. Nick and Lesley were the perfect hosts, going above and beyond to make our stay so very enjoyable. Canoeing down the Orne was a real adventure, and the Tree Top Park in Roche d'Oetre was just brilliant - much more varied tasks than Go Ape in the UK and challenging to say the least. We spent four and a half hours there and still didn't complete the course! The Normandy Beaches are also well worth going to even if you're not into the history behind them (but you can't help but be moved when you see them, especially at Arromanches where evidence of the landings are so very obvious to see). All in all a fabulous week, one of the best cottages we've stayed in. Thank you both so very much.

Beautiful Gite in beautiful surroundings
A beautiful Gite, spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly need available. The bedrooms are light and airy and bigger then you might think. The lounge/dining is roomy and cosy especially on the cold rainy nights. We lit the Aga one evening and it was so warm very quickly. Lesley and Nick are lovely friendly hosts and provide loads of information about the area, what to visit and where to eat. We loved the rural location in the heart of Normandy and home from home feeling staying here gave us and will definitely stay here again.

A Week at La Vieille Longere
We visited La Vieille Longere in mid September looking for a quiet, comfortable, relaxing break in beautiful countryside. Our only plans were to relax, explore the countryside and visit the local markets and vide-greniers. The drive from the ferry was easy as we followed Nick’s excellent directions (despite the sat nav telling us to go elsewhere). A really lovely warm welcome from Lesley and Nick followed by a comprehensive tour of the gite, the gardens and all the available facilities was a very pleasant start to our holiday. Although there was just the two of us we chose to stay in the larger gite. As the weather forecast was unpredictable for the week we were there, we expected to be spending some time indoors. The gite was comfortable and inviting, decorated in keeping with the character of the house and the surroundings. It had a great atmosphere in which we felt perfectly at home. All the beds were extremely comfortable with good quality mattresses and very nice linen. It was very pleasant to lie in bed and gaze at the stars before we drew down the blinds to then appreciate the wonderful wooden beams. The bathroom was very small with a good shower, but the washbasin so tiny we were pleased we avoided any unpleasant knocks to the head. Everywhere was incredibly clean and well thought through. We liked it so much. The whole experience was very relaxing and comfortable. Simple, clean, beautiful and warm. We returned to England laden with all the good products you associate with Normandy. Locally produced cider, calvados, honey, cider vinegar, crème fraiche and wine along with our wonderful purchases from the vide greniers. A copper jug, cream ceramic oil and vinegar bottles, an artisan vase, butter dish and Pernod water bottles all for 7 Euros. (That’s just for the products from the vide greniers). Lesley and Nick were the perfect hosts. We had total privacy but they were available if and when we needed anything. They are so interesting, nice and helpful. Homemade jam and freshly laid eggs were available and even an armful of books when we ran out of reading material. Our only regret was that we had not booked for longer and that it was not cold enough to light the Essen stove and cook our meals on it. Next time?

Fabulously cosy gite in the Swiss Normande
Stunning location for this beautiful gite. My husband, I & grown up daughter arrived in blizzard conditions in Le Havre and onto the most gorgeous holiday home, in Segrie Fontaine, the Esse Stove was blazing and the cottage warm and cosy on a very chilly day and with the kettle just about to boil, a perfect welcome. Nick and Lesley have taken the time, effort and hardwork, to make this a truly delightful home, we felt so welcome and relaxed, that after two days we felt as if we had been on a weeks holiday. The complimentary Cider, tea and coffee was a very generous touch, guests always love these little extras, and goes to show the owners care. We bought freshly laid free range fresh eggs, homemade jam and lazed by the fire, wonderfully comfortable squashy sofa and blankets and curled up while dinner cooked on top, what could be better? The beds are extremely comfy, we slept so well, Segrie Fontaine is a very pretty quaint little Hamlet, with views in every direction of the Swiss Normande, no light pollution here! The walls are so thick too, keeping in all that lovely heat which we needed being so cold outside, but I'm sure in the summer would be amazing too. There is every possible item you need in the gite, all mod cons, but what you do also have, is the best possible welcome, advice on where to go, what to see, the walks, and friendly smiles, and a gorgeous black cat. Right outside the lounge window there are birdfeeders so a close up view of a huge array of birdlife in this tranquil spot. There are deer, badgers and foxes too. All the little extras make this a perfect holiday home, books, games, music, tv, dvd, lots of information, flowers were a nice touch too. We particularly liked all the antiques, so much more interesting than bland matching furniture, the whole cottage has been a labour of love and it shows in every nook and cranny, absolutely gorgeous. For a quicker route to the gite, take the ferry to Caen, we took the longer trip, only an extra hour as we had an amazing deal with LD lines, but you can't beat good old Brittany Ferries where the holiday starts when you step on the boat! Well done Nick & Lesley and hope the new venture with the B & B is as successful, we hope to return. Kind Regards Julie, David and Vicky.

Beautiful tranquil location- great hosts
We had a very enjoyable holiday staying at this immaculately renovated gite. The location was ideal for exploring the beautiful countryside of Swiss Normandy and allowed easy travelling to the D-Day beaches, Bayeux and Mont St Michel. Nick and Lesley were friendly, unobtrusive hosts and gave us meaningful insights to the surrounding area. They were always available to help and were very thoughtful in leaving some welcome provisions for us on our arrival and having a roaring fire going in the woodburner. It is an easy hour's run from Caen's ferry terminal and there are plenty of supermarkets within easy reach. We went on some lovely walks , some directly from the gite and enjoyed the local small town of Falaise and the village of Pont d'Ouilly . Visiting les Roches d'Oetre was well worth it and only about 10 minutes from the gite. We will definitely return to explore more of the area and experience the warmth of the reception given to us by Nick and Lesley. We also intend to kayak down the nearby River Orne. This gite is highly recommended and friends of ours are already planning to come over next year. Diolch yn fawr! Mark and Gaynor Selwyn- Cilcain, North Wales
