Overview

About the property

3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, Sleeps 6 + 1

With 3 ensuite bedrooms, (each with their own TV), and set within a beautiful thatched walled garden and with an award winning pub 2 mins walk away Enford House Cottage is the perfect place for a relaxing & peaceful break in the english countryside but is also within easy reach of many tourist attractions including Stonehenge, Avebury, Marlborough and Bath

The cottage is an attached wing of the 18th Century, Grade 2 listed manor house (Enford House) and is a home away from home with comfortable beds, good quality bedlinen and towels, TV's in every bedroom, a well equipped kitchen as well as WiFi and a games room with Table Tennis, Pool Table and Table Football.

The property is surrounded by the wall garden which is situated next to the village church and beyond that fields. The village pub, which serves good food and has just won Wiltshire's 'pub of the year', is 2 minutes walk away. The cottage is child friendly - the garden is enclosed by the wall and there is a thatched games room for visitors to use with table tennis and table football and also a swing and slide in the garden and also a football goal. Wifi is available throughout the property.

There are 3 ensuite bedrooms, 2 double bedrooms situated upstairs and a twin bedroom situated downstairs next to the sitting room.

The garden is completely enclosed and the entrance gate can be shut for those with young children or dogs.

The village of Enford is in the Avon Valley - the village is surrounded by countryside and there are lots of places to walk or bicycle. Stonehenge is an hours walk or 10 min drive.

The village has 2 great local pubs. The Swan, which is 2 minutes' walk, and The Red Lion, in the next door village of East Chisenbury, which is 2 minutes' drive or a 20 minute walk. Both do good food - the Red Lion has a Michelin pub award for its food and is a well known Wiltshire pub which people come a long way to visit. There is no shop in the village itself but there are local shops in neighbouring villages less than 5 minutes drive away, major supermarkets in the local towns and all the supermarkets do delivery to the door. And for those looking for a winter get away the cottage is very warm with central heating throughout, an electric log burner in the sitting room and double glazing so is very cosy!

The cottage is ideally situated for the following places of interest

•Stonehenge (10 mins drive) and Avebury (25 mins drive) Stone Circles (World Heritage sites),

•Salisbury Cathedral, Old Sarum and the Medieval cities of Salisbury & Wilton (25 min drive)

•Historic Market towns of Devizes, Pewsey, and Marlborough (20 min drive)

•Kennet Canal (20 min drive)

•Longleat House, Adventure Playground and Safari Park (40 min drive)

•National Trust village of Lacock (50 min drive)

•Stourhead (50 min drive)

•Bath & Winchester (both 1 hour drive)

•Plus lots of children's activities including family friendly farms, Paultons Park (for Peppa Pig World) and many more - the information booklet in the cottage lists all of these

The cottage and main house have seperate entrances it feels very seperate although we are attached at the back. Mary Campbell purchased this cottage in 1969

Why Mary Campbell chose Pewsey

My husbands parents bought the property when he was a baby and he grew up here and inherited it in 2005. His grandmother used to live in the cottage

What makes this cottage unique

With the thatched walled garden and special door in the wall to take you through to the churchyard Enford is a very special place. The cottage has a lovely feeling about it and everyone comments on how comfortable the beds are!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a very happy holiday in this lovely cottage. Coming from belgium we were very excited by the walled garden and lovely old house the cottage is part of. Really well equipped in the cottage and we felt at home very soon. We visited the beautiful countryside and lots of 'old stones'!

A great stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay for 3 nights. The cottage is beautifully furnished and equipped, offering everything you want.

Mary's information folder is second to none with so much detail on what to do, where to eat, shop etc, along with distances from the cottage. Brilliant!

We met both Mary and Simon briefly and it was reassuring to know they were 'on site' should we need them (fortunately we didn't!)

Sadly the weather stopped us using the outside areas which looked great. It will be a terrific place to stay on sunny days with thoughtful touches like a patio with a barbecue, and an invitation to use herbs from the garden.

Delightful cottage in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Living in a period cottage, set in a lovely garden, close to a charming village by the River Avon with a good pub just a few minutes walk away made for a great stay. The hosts are charming and very helpful. The location is excellent because Avebury, Glastonbury, Stonehenge and Salisbury are all within driving distance. Countryside is stunning.

picturesque surroundings

cottage clean and well presented. Housekeeping pointers- to check light bulbs are working in cottage and games room, clean and de mould washing machine drawer and seal, check the right instruction booklets are for the appliances in situ. Suggestion - maybe just have blinds over the windows where the radiators are situated, as when the curtains are drawn at night, the heat goes through the windows and not into room?

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. We do check the lightbulbs every week and they were all fine when i checked them before you stay so apologies about that - replaced now. Apologies about the washing machine soap drawer - we do that every few weeks, which is usually enough but will be at the top of the list now. And re the radiator and the curtain - that is just in one room but that is a good suggestion and i hadn't realised that was an issue so will look into that. Thank you

Lovely property, helpful owners

  • 5 of 5

A lovely property for an 80th birthday family get together, 3 gorgeous rooms all en-suite and a good sized lounge, although we found we spent most of our time in the spacious kitchen with a table easily big enough for 6 and which extended to being big enough for 10 when the grandkids came calling!!! Couple of minor issues were dealt with immediately and with minimum of fuss by the owners. Thank you so much, Mary for a wonderful stay!

Charming and comfortable cottage for six near Salisbury and Stonehenge.

  • 4 of 5

We spent three nights in this charming cottage with our four boys, six of us altogether, just before Christmas. Each of the three bedrooms is on its own level, and each has a bathroom. The kitchen is large and well-equipped. The boys loved sinking into the sofas in the living room which was all decorated and smelt of Christmas. They also enjoyed the games room in the shed outside, with its table tennis table. Mary and Simon live next door but were never intrusive, just very helpful and welcoming. The cottage is close to Salisbury, where we enjoyed a fabulous guided tour to the top of the cathedral, and Stonehenge, great audio guides you wear while walking around the stones. Thanks to a tip from Mary, we also discovered the Hawk Conservancy Trust, bird flight shows of falcons and eagles run by enthusiastic young keepers. The cottage is very old so the floors creak and are uneven but that is part of the charm.
