About this property

Private Home & Private Pool 8/24-31 and 9/7-28 Avbl. FREE WELCOME PASTA DINNER

Situated in Italy's "golden triangle", where the three provinces of Lazio, Tuscany and Umbria meet, Casa Le Crete is a charming farmhouse where the beauty of the landscape converges with the rich history of the region.

The house is well positioned in the middle of the Orvieto Classico wine region just outside the hills of Ficulle, an ancient city whose roots date back to the Etruscan civilization. The location provides a chance for wine enthusiasts to savor the local wines that are a product of the sun-kissed hills and the fertile lands that surround the house. Ficulle, with its ancient roots dating bak to the Etruscan civilization, adds a layer of historical richness to the experience.

Its privileged position atop a slope gives the villa undisturbed 360 degree panoramic views and is reached by a private access road. A place to slow down, relax, observe and discover the riches of Umbria.

Note: It is recommended to have a midsize car for the small roads and towns. The last kilometer to the house is a white road (unpaved).

Staying at Casa Le Crete is a journey through time and culture, where every corner of the farmhouse tells a story, and every view from its windows frames a piece of the Italian countryside's timeless beauty.

It's not just a place to vacation; it's an immersion into the soul of Italy.

The interior is a mix of antique furniture from local markets, modern pieces without pretensions and artistic decoration that reflects the cultural tapestry of the area.

The farmhouse is made up of two separate residences (La Dolce Villa, which is the owners' home and La Dolce Vista, which is the rental property. Together they make up Casa Le Crete. Complete privacy is guaranteed as the owners are never in residence when the property is rented

The two renovated floors of 120 sq m. the farmhouse is located on a hill with spectacular views in an oasis of peace surrounded by 4,250 m2 of land with vineyard and swimming pool

The living room, a haven of comfort, opens up through French doors to reveal a splendid view of the countryside and the glistening swimming pool. A comfortable sofa and wicker armchairs create a cozy retreat, complemented by a wood stove in the corner, promising warmth and relaxation in the cooler months.

Outside, a rustic wooden table and chairs invite you to savor a glass of wine, the company of loved ones, and the beauty of the landscape.

Stepping into the kitchen and dining room the antique oak table can host family and friends gathered around to share and make memories. The kitchen stands ready for your culinary creations. Or should you wish to indulge in the culinary expertise of Grazia, the option for home cooked meals or even a cooking class awaits.

A bedroom with double bed is located on the ground floor with your private ensuite bathroom. The color scheme of forest green and lavender soothes the spirit. Vintage botanical prints collected by the owners are displayed on the walls.

As you look through the French doors your private patio reveals itself, offering another panoramic view of the surrounding olive trees and grapevines. A great place for an early morning cappuccino.

The Second floor consists of two bedrooms and bathroom at the end of the corridor.

The master bedroom is large and spacious with a queen size bed. The artwork adorning the walls is not just decoration but a gallery of original pieces, painted with love and creativity by the family members.

The second bedroom, the 'Vespa room' in light of its transportation theme, is set up to accommodate two children. Versatile and accommodating, the beds can be pushed together for couples or left individually for children, ensuring that every guest find their perfect space.

At the end of the hallway, a large second bathroom beckons.

For your convenience, the washing machine is housed in the technical room just outside the house. Two drying racks stand ready, embracing the Italian tradition of sun-dried freshness.

In the upstairs master bedroom a ceiling fan ensures a gentle breeze.
Three additional fans are also available. The elevation of the property and the absence of any surrounding homes ensures a breeze.

We absolutely loved our week at Casa Le Crete. It was perfect!
The property is very beautiful and is set in beautiful scenery - there are panoramic views! We would return in a heart beat! Top tip - the last bit of the journey to the villa is a little steep - it may be worth hiring a 4x4 though our Renault Megane handled it okay. No neighbours and stunning villages close by and there is a Coop in Fabro so all super easy to buy food etc.

Magical Time at Casa Le Crete!
Staying at Casa Le Crete felt like coming home! We were so dearly cared for by Grazie, Lisa and Arturo. The kitchen was stocked with wine, milk, eggs and coffee and then a wonderful lasagna dinner complete with a salad awaited us upon our arrival. Every need was anticipated. Outside there are so many options for sitting and relaxing. Thank you so very, very much for our holiday home. We are coming back next year!

Panoramic views out of this world
Panoramic views from this property are out of this world! It was even more spectacular than we imagined. The villa is situated in a beautiful hilltop amongst the rolling hills of Umbria. The road to get to the villa was a bit daunting after 10 days but manageable. The villa grounds were not attended to and could have been in a better condition for our stay. Piles of Needles from the pine trees were left behind on the pool deck and could have been cleaned up. Chairs were not in the best condition and not the loungers as in the photos in the listing and no umbrella but we did request one and they brought one a few days later. The awning above the dining area was in disrepair and on our last day it came apart and was unsafe due to high winds. The bocce court could have used some tlc however it did seem to have been looked at the morning we were leaving so it was disappointing to have seen work being done when we left and it should have been done prior to our stay. The villa inside had great country charm and quite spacious. Kitchen was well equipped and we even used the charcoal grill. Some more deep cleaning would have been nice as there were many cobwebs about the villa but we understand it’s the countryside and there will be bugs. The bed was comfortable and waking up to the amazing Umbrian views were spectacular! All in all this was a great holiday rental and we enjoyed our 10 days living the Italian lifestyle. Thank you Lisa and Arturo for opening your home to us!

Familienurlaub

About the host

Hosted by Lisa DeNunzio

Host profile image
Ciao tutti e benvenuti nel nostro site. My name is Lisa Nanna DeNunzio. My husband, Arturo, and I are second-generation Italian Americans originally from New York who became fascinated with our Italian roots and history. After years of traveling to Italy, my husband and I have purchased a farmhouse in Umbria. Courageous or crazy?

They say it’s the journey that teaches you about your destination; and that the best part of the journey is the surprise and wonder discovered along the way.

Why they chose this property

Our first instinct was to buy a ‘city home’ in Firenze or Lucca that could be rented when we were at our home in Coral Gables. However, after looking at several properties in various locations in Tuscany it became evident that city living offered little opportunity for outdoor space (or much space) as well as precious little light. After living in Florida for the past 38 years la luce (the light) is an integral part of my existence and something I cannot do without. So after a disappointing start, we threw our net further afield and ventured into the countryside of Umbria to search for a place to live.

When we found Via dei Colli Realtors through Italy Magazine and we began our correspondence, we had no idea where it would lead. Stefano began putting together a myriad of homes within our price range that my husband and I would visit when we arrived in Italy. He organized a trip, ‘in giro’ (around) to visit several properties. As we disembarked the train from Firenze to Chiusi we were met by Stefano, a source of knowledge, comfort, and assurance, and the principal of the company.

And so off we went. We drove the back roads of Tuscany weaving into Umbria and visited an apartment in Citta della Pieve. As lovely and scenic as this stone city was, we still felt the need for more light and green space. Then Piero announced that a property that had been under contract had come back on the market. Even though it was larger than we had desired, it was priced well and certainly worth a look.

What makes this property unique

In Peter Mayle’s evocative memoir, ‘A Year in Provence’, Mr. Mayle writes,
“We saw the house in the afternoon
and had mentally moved in by dinner”

That was our reaction when we found Le Crete in Ficulle, Umbria. In short, even though we visited the house only one time and with an overcast sky, the view took our breath away. We simply knew it would be a wonderful home for our family to gather and make wonderful memories together.
