Winter in the Chamonix Valley: Chamonix valley is one of the most famous skiing and snowboarding areas in the French Alps. Sat at the foot of Mont Blanc, Europe's highest mountain, Chamonix itself is a vibrant town that swells ten-fold every season with holiday makers keen to take advantage of the valley's easy access to the mountains.

Skiing in Chamonix takes place primarily in five distinctly separate ski domaines. Entering the valley first you pass Les Houches with its stunning views of Mont Blanc.

5km further on you enter Chamonix town and the Brevent lift system that links to La Flegere lifts to create the biggest and sunniest domaine.

Another 5km brings you to the village of Argentiere and Grant Montets. Reaching up to 3,300m the upper area is off-piste heaven and the lower slopes great piste.

At the back of the valley lies Le Tour, renowned as the most 'family' of all the domaines.

For all it's pisted runs Chamonix is just as famous for its off-piste and ski mountaineering.

Summer in the Chamonix valley: Summertime in Chamonix in the French Alps is no less action packed than winter. With Mont Blanc sat right above it the valley is a Mecca for rock climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking, paragliding or just walking in some of Europe's most spectacular mountains.

Chamonix's lift system works through the summer taking mountain enthusiasts high into fantastic terrain. On the south side of the valley the Aiguille de Midi lift takes you in two hops up to nearly 4,000m where you get access to the glaciers and rock faces of Mont Blanc.

Opposite lies the Brevent which offers access to the sunnier side of the valley and brilliant hillwalking and rock climbing.

The halfway stations of both the Brevent and the Aiguille de Midi have world class paraglider launches and tandem flights are easily found in town

A very cosy chalet ideally located

We really loved the chalet. It was perfectly placed for us: walking distance for morning baguettes and very close (2 mins) to chamonix bus. Although it's close to the main road, you wouldn't know because of the trees and river so it feels as secluded as it looks. The only downside was the poor communication with the owners/agents. There was no welcome information and they forgot to provide chamonix cards which provide free public transport. We used public transport every day so ended up about quite a bit out of pocket. Although we tried to call the local contact person the phone number redirected to the uk so there was apparently nobody available locally to fix such issues. But overall this was a great chalet and we had a very memorable family holiday.

Ideally placed for a walking holiday

We loved Argentierre and the quirky nature of the chalet enhanced our experience._The similarity with a cuckoo clock was striking!

The chalet was well equipped ,clean and proved ideal for 3 people (and would be for 4). However the stairs were rather steep and on occasion proved too steep for our dog -especially after a long hard walk -as long as people are aware of this there would be no problem.

The proximity to Balcon sud and other beautiful walks was what we wanted and we weren't disappointed. Also only a short 50 metres to the hotel bar next door and a 5 minute walk into the village was conveinient.

Overall we were very pleased with the accommodation and its location was ideal.

Lovely and well equipped chalet

Very nice, well maintained chalet. Good quality kitchen/washing facilities and pretty much everything you could think of needing re: holiday cooking etc. We stayed with our two boys for 12 days and would highly recommend. There is a nice small decking area at the back and a bit of lawn ... a nice area to sit on a warm evening and enjoy a post walk/run beer! Plenty of parking space and access straight onto the paths along the Arve river and up onto the Balcon Sud .... very nice and well managed.

un très bon séjour

Séjour très agréable dans ce chalet cooconing, confortable, avec tous les appareils ménagers necessaires. Bien situé, il est bercé par le bruit du torrent qui n'est en rien génant.

C'est plutôt un chalet pour 4 personnes que pour 6 car le salon est petit et vite encombré dès que le lit est ouvert.

Lovely 9 days family holiday in the summer

We went to Chamonix 2 years ago and came back again this year and stayed in this very comfortable, clean and spacious chalet in Argentière. The property was just as described and everything was provided that our family of 6 needed and requested. Before we left and while staying, the management company were always available and very helpful. The bus-stop is just a very short walk away that took us either way up the valley and to the swimming pool and mountain train that were two attractions we really enjoyed. Shopping in Chamonix town (with market on Saturdays) were also easy to get to with the bus. The walks around were beautiful and the area is very relaxing and offers all that you need with supermarket, shops, train and bus all local. We would recommend the local restaurant Aux Dix Vins and just a further short walk along was a great Pizza restaurant and take-a-way that was handy on the evenings we were back too late to cook. We would highly recommend this property (and have already given the details to a few of our friends who live in France and the UK) and will be going back as it is a great base and place to stay.

Chalet Cachette is a two-bedroom, independent chalet on the outskirts of Argentiere in the Chamonix valley. The property is ideally located for a ski holiday being just 500m from Grand Montets ski lift. Grand Montets has some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the French Alps.

Argentiere village is an active ski town in season with plenty of bars and restaurants to cater to everyone's taste. Argentiere centre is ten minutes on foot from the chalet. Chamonix town is 10km away.

The other ski areas in the Chamonix valley - Les Houches, Le Tour, Brevent and La Flegere - are all easily reached by Chamonix valley's free bus service.
