About the property

Sleeps 12, six bedrooms and bathrooms. Possible to rent with Glenbardie Bothy.

Glenbardie House is the perfect places to explore Royal Deeside, the Cairngorm National Park and the Highlands. Set at the foot of Craigendarroch Hill, you will find Glenbardie peaceful yet close to amenities, with Ballater centre just a 600m walk away.

Short stays are considered on application, but they do attract a higher rate.

Glenbardie House sleeps 12 people. A cot is also available for your use and on dog is permitted. The house ie comfortably furnished and well equipped, with Sky Sports package, Wifi, garden furniture and BBQ.

Ground floor accommodation comprises of a sitting room, a dining room, a games room with pool table, an suite twin bedded bedroom, a kitchen, off which is a utility room, and a shower room with toilet.

The first floor is accessed by a staircase leading from the tartan carpeted hallway. You will find four bedrooms of which two have king sized beds with ensuite shower rooms. The other two bedrooms have twin beds and a wash hand basin. They share a bathroom, with a shower over the bath.

The final bedroom is found at the top of another set of stairs at the rear of the house on the way to the kitchen. These also lead to the tower. The bedroom has a double bed and an ensuite bathroom, with a shower fitting.

The house is set in the middle of the grounds, and at the rear there is a lovely lawn and summer house to use. There is a BBQ and garden furniture.

The kitchen has an Aga range - electric ovens and six gas burners, a dining table with seating for eight people, two fridges, and a separate upright freezer, in addition to the one found above one of the fridges. There is a utility area just off the kitchen with sink, washing machine and tumble dryer. The house receives Sky TV - sports package and offers unlimited broadband. Should catering be required, this is possible to arrange, but is subject to availability. So, please ask well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Great Stay at Glenbardie House

Our stay for the week for my mum's 80th birthday was absolutely fantastic the best house we have stayed in so far. The extra bathrooms and shower rooms were perfect so there were no queues at all for the 12 of us. The house is very clean and cosy for a house so large and the scenery is just beautiful. We plan to go back in a few years time for the next family get together and cannot recommend this house enough.

Perfect holiday!!

We came to stay at Glenbardie from California; there were 4 adults and 5 kids (ages 6-11), and it was the PERFECT house. Clean, plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, laundry, amazing kitchen, lots of space for everyone, and perfectly situated to walk into town for groceries, coffee, and delicious meals. We went hiking, horseback riding, castle hopping, cake-eating and much, much more. The caretaker was absolutely lovely, the owners are responsive and generous. We hope to come back again to Glenbardie, it was a dream vacation in Scotland!!

This really is 5 star

This lovely house - and helpful owner - rescued our holiday. Having found ourselves in a dreadful place in Huntly, Angela pulled out the stops to get the house ready for us at a couple of hours notice. When we arrived, late in the evening, after a very trying experience, we were thrilled. The house was warm comfortable and clean. There was everything we needed and more. Amazing huge dining table that our whole family could sit at, lovely cosy living room, with comfy seats for all . . . and a log fire. With a mixed group, ages from 2 to 85, everyone was happy. The pool table was well used all week with a pool league organised. Bedrooms all lovely with nice bedding and plenty of ensuites. The downstairs twin was great for Grannie! The house is in easy walking distance from the town, which has plenty to offer in the way of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. We were so sorry to have to leave this luxurious but homely house and would certainly recommend it to everyone.

Glenbardie house

Just returned after a fantastic couple of days in Ballater. The house was fantastic and more than catered for all of our needs!

Lovely large rooms, nicely furnished and the house was kitted out with everything that anyone could possibly need. Added to that the wonderful scenery and close access to the centre of the village.

A perfect place to stay and look forward to returning in the future.

Where to stay at any time of year!

We stayed in Glenbardie House for a week at New Year 2014. As a group of 8 friends we have been renting properties in the Highlands at that time for several years and, though the others were of an excellent standard, this is the first one that we are returning to!

Both the owner, prior to arrival, and the housekeeper thereafter were friendly and helpful and the house was a comfortable, warm and dry haven during what was sadly a very wet week. The kitchen is especially well equipped and the food shopping in Ballater is really good. As a party of eight each couple had an ensuite bedroom which was great. The pool table provided a popular diversion on wet afternoons!

As said in a previous review of The Bothy, the location is excellent with many places to visit and great walks on the doorstep. We're returning at the same time this year to enjoy the many walks and areas we didn't see and look forward to relaxing again in front of a roaring fire at the end of the day!

The Victorian market town of Ballater, www.visitBallater.com, boasts excellent shops, many displaying their Royal Warrants, pubs and restaurants, sports centre, cycle hire and golf course. The River Dee, which creates a natural boundary for the town, is renowned for its salmon fishing. Ballater even has its own newspaper, the Ballater and Craithie Eagle and a “slightly irreverent” on line site called the Ballater Bugle. When the Queen is in residence during the months of August and September, the Royal Guard is billeted in the Victoria Barracks in the village.

The House or The Bothy is an excellent base for touring this beautiful and varied part of the Scottish Highlands. The immediate area offers an abundance of activities offering something for everyone. Balmoral Castle and Royal Lochnagar Distillery are 8 miles to the west. There are many local castles, whisky and heritage trails, fishing, sports and wildlife, cycle and hiking trails, horse riding and the skiing centres of Glenshee and the Lecht.

Day trips to Speyside with its whisky, the Scottish Cairngorms to the north and Aberdeen to the East are manageable.

The granite city of Aberdeen is the closest centre for rail and air links and car hire.

Useful sites are: Ballater Scotland, Undiscovered Scotland, Royal Deeside and Visit Scotland. Below we’ve tried to give you a better idea of what the area has to offer:

CYCLING - The old railway line (Balater to Dinnet) is popular with walkers and cyclists alike.  Visit Cycle Scotland and the Forestry Commission  ??

FISHING - Fish Dee.  Also fish for rainbow trout at Tullich Fishery, 2 miles (3kms) away. 

GLIDING - Deeside Gliding Club ,Aboyne, holds the UK altitude record of 38,600 feet.

JOGGING/RUNNING - Choose from forest, hill and river trails around Ballater. Both the Ballater Highland Games and the Braemar Gathering have a hill race competition. There is the BALMORAL RUN 26 - 27 April, 2014. Set in the grounds of Balmoral Estate.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITY CENTRE - Deeside Activity Centre 14 miles (23kms) from Ballater

SNOW SKIING - The Lecht2090 is the closest ski slope to Glenbardie

Glenshee is Scotland’s largest ski-centre 8 miles (13kms) south of Braemar.

A stay at Glenbardie would not be complete without a walk along the River Dee and for the more active to the top of Craigendarroch Hill, and the one at Cambus O’May.    Also, visit Royal Deeside, Forestry Commission and Walk Highlands.

WILDLIFE - Ballater lies at the Eastern border of the Cairngorm National Park ,home to a quarter of Scotland's native woodland

CASTLES - Balmoral Castle open from October to July.  Others of note are: Braemar Castle, Craigievar Castle, Crathes Castle (a favourite) Drum Castle.

VICTORIAN HERITAGE TRAIL leads you to some of the many sights Queen Victoria enjoyed during her visits to the area. Close to Ballater there is Glen Muick, with its wonderful loch. Others are Cambus O'May, Crathie Church, Braemar and the Linn of Dee.

DISTILLERIES - DEESIDE has The Royal Lochnagar Distillery and the tours are very enjoyable. Another is the Fettercairn’s Hillside Distillery, one of the oldest malt whisky distlleries in Scotland.

SPEYSIDE boasts The Malt Whisky Trail. This links several famous distilleries: Strathisla (Chivas Regal), Glenfiddich, Glenfarclas, The Glenlivet, Cardhu, Glen Grant, Dallas Dhu and Benromach.
