Stunning and sensitively converted barn with 14x7m pool

Overview

Property

Updated: 11-Nov-2016
Tranquil self-catering 2 bedroom gite equipped to an excellent standard

This barn was stylishly and sensitively converted in 2008. Guests regularly comment on how well equipped it is; please read reviews. It sleeps a max of 4 persons in twin and double rooms. The garden boasts a vast 14m pool with electric security cover. It is part of a larger property nestled in a rustic setting about 1 mile from the village of St Puy. Surrounded by farmland and wooded area, this peaceful location is perfect for unwinding, relaxing and enjoying one of the most celebrated gastronomic areas of SW France. The interior has been equipped to a very high standard whilst also retaining many of the features from the 1850s structure such as original openings and beautifully restored interior stone walls. The living room is vast with beautiful views. The kitchen is superbly fitted and equipped to a very high standard. Bedrooms are spacious and the King Size bed will not disappoint. There are some garden games and a good selection of bicycles in the garage which may be borrowed.

Hospitality: A welcome pack of essentials can be arranged as can a meal on the evening of your arrival. A gourmet 5 course Gascogne dinner including foie gras and Armagnac can be served to you in your gite one evening during your stay if you wish. Croissants, chocolatines etc. can also be fetched for you in the morning from the village of St Puy if the owners are in residence.

Relaxing holiday in the Gers

  • 4 of 5

Another really relaxing holiday in this lovely part of France. This is the third time we have stayed in this gite, it suits a family of 4 perfectly. Comfortable, clean and well equipped with a fantastic pool. In easy reach of lots of attractions - picturesque villages, swimming lake, roman ruins, quiet roads for cycling, there is something for everyone. Hopefully we shall be back next year.

Our second visit

  • 5 of 5

Although we rarely visit the same place twice, this was our second visit to Cauboue and again we had a brilliant time. The gite is roomy and comfortable for any season and conducive to a relaxing and stress free holiday with the advantage of having a friendly "manager" - Richard - at the end of a phone.

The outlying area is so pleasant to drive through and stop off when the fancy takes with numerous little restaurants in the various, historical little villages. That's if you can tear yourself away from the enormous swimming pool which was a boon this year as we had some very hot days. The local restaurants are good value but in some cases require booking. One particular little pizzeria in the main street out of Valence sur Baise is well worth a visit and very popular with the local residents. (Try the cider).

We really love Cauboue and look forward to returning.

un séjour merveilleux dans un endroit magnifique

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful stay at Cauboue.

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself and our wee dog Millie enjoyed two great weeks at Cauboue. The large gite is situated just a couple of kilometers from St. Puy. The property is very well maintained and has spacious rooms and is very well equipped. There are plenty of films to watch, books to read and games to play. There is a lovely outside terrace, where we ate most of our meals, looking out over the fields and enjoying the wild life - a Hoopoe was a regular morning visitor! The swimming pool is very large and we enjoyed swims most days as the weather was superb.

Richard and Mary were very helpful and friendly and the neighbours up the lane were great. My husband enjoyed some good games of golf at Fleurance. There are just so many beautiful places to visit and enjoy - La Romieu, Condom, St. Puy, - just to name a few. A wealth of places to explore. We also enjoyed some great walks in the countryside with Millie. The food and drink within the area add to the enjoyment.

Nick and Val were very nice people to deal with. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have booked to return in September, with mu Mum. A gite to be highly recommended!

Super venue for a family with older children.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely gite, The bathroom and the lounge are particularly large and the whole house feels spacious. The gite was well equipped with sufficient kitchen utensils, tea towels etc The very large pool quickly warmed as the days heated up and we made good use of it. It was certainly not just a pool for young children, although of course there was a shallow end. There was lots of space around the pool to sit and relax and the patio outside the kitchen was an ideal place to have breakfast and watch the birds, lizards and the occasional red squirrel. Mary and Richard were very helpful and kind managers and gave us lots of useful advice and recommendations. The property is situated in a lovely area of France and there are lots of pretty and ancient towns and villages to visit within a thirty km radius plus sports facilities for those who require them. This property is one of only a few that we would certainly like to return to and we would recommend it to friends and family. We came home feeling we would like to have stayed for the whole of June but then we did have glorious weather to go with the lovely gite.

Comfortable, relaxing with a great pool

  • 5 of 5

An extremely relaxing place to stay. Comfortable, roomy and well equipped, with a large clean pool. In open countryside, 2 km from St Puy. Lots of interesting places to visit within easy cycling/ driving distance and a variety of local markets to enjoy. Good Wi-Fi connection was a bonus. We will certainly be recommending this gite to family and friends.

Location

From the Owner

We wanted a place to relax during long summer holidays - and Cauboue is our little paradise.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Toulouse at 100 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : St Malo at 450 Miles Nearest Train : Agen at 35 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A 62 at 30 Kilometres Nearest Ski : St Lary Soulan at 100 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Arcachon at 100 Kilometres Car: necessary

You will probably want to spend most of your time in this beautiful rural location relaxing and reading in the hamoc under the oak tree, or swimming. But should you want to venture out for anything more than a market or a meal there are various activities that may take your fancy: we are situated a few kilometres off the Chemin de Compostelle - so local walking is outstandingly good and superbly marked. There is a tennis court at St Puy, 1 mile away. St Puy is home to the Monluc Chateau where local wines can be tasted and bought. Its sweet wine (or vin moelleux) has recently received rave reviews in Paris. Golf is 20 mins drive away. Cauboue is situated 11 km from the small historic Cathedral town of Condom with excellent facilities, bars, restaurants & supermarkets. Wednesday is market day. There are countless little villages nearby with potential for coffee stops & markets that you will want to explore. For the more hardy, Auch and Agen are 30 km away; Lectoure and Fleurance 20.

Other Activities: plenty of excellent and affordable restaurants

Notes:

  • The gite is accessed by a new private path built around the property. The entrance is via double patio doors where there is a newly constructed tiled patio with table and chairs. Inside, this opens out into the newly fitted kitchen and dining area. The lounge, including patio doors onto the garden, is a vast space as it is the height of two floors. There are many books on shelves as well as iPOD docking station. The oak staircase leads up from here and opens out into a spacious and light landing with stunning views over fields towards St Puy.
