A lovely, quite remote, quiet spot. Very attractive 'cottage, very clean and well equipped. Good restaurants in local village. Just remember most Madeira Roads are 'quite bendy' All together a very enjoyable break

A delightful cottage in a marvellous position
The cottage is beautifully situated at the quieter end of the island: from the spacious terrace there are fine views of the sea but the position is tranquil and secluded, overlooking a colourful garden and a private vineyard on the slopes below. Inside its character has been carefully preserved, with an impressive kitchen range and some fine antique furniture. Don't expect stainless steel - the sink is original too, but there's all the modern equipment you need. Like many others on the island the road leading down to the house is narrow and quite steep. The welcome we received was exceptional: Roberto met us, explained everything and made sure we had provisions to start us off as well as local fruit and wine. The house was full of fresh flowers and immaculately presented. We were able to enjoy a roaring log fire in the evenings. There are lovely walks close by including levadas not far away. Good restaurants are quite close and the road tunnels get you to Funchal in little over an hour - it will be faster next year. But this location is best for those who enjoy peace and quiet as well as lovely scenery and an old, slightly quirky house. We certainly did and strongly recommend it to those who like the same.

magical place
Had a wonderful 10 days in this beautiful property. Wonderful views, very peaceful location and beautifully restored comfortable house where you can immediately feel 'at home'. There were beautiful wild flowers in the lanes and the garden was lovely. Roberto is an exceptional host who made us feel very welcome and ensured we had all we needed to start our holiday. A 20 minute walk along the old road brings you into the town, near a café/restaurant that serves very tasty and good value home cooked meals. There is a nearby levada that you can access without needing to drive, whilst other levadas are within 30 minutes drive. So some great walks followed up by sitting on the patio with a glass of maderian wine watching the amazing sunsets! Highly recommended.

Perfect hideaway for relaxing holidays
We stayed two wonderful weeks in this cosy and tastefully restored house enjoying, above all, spectacular views over the Atlantic Ocean. The house and the beautiful garden are very well maintained, lovingly decorated and with all the amenities you need. The absolute peace and quietness of the area made for a very restful atmosphere. Thank you so much, Roberto and Fiona, for your exceptional hospitality! Markus and Ciba from Vienna
