About the property

Two-bedroom house (sleeps up to 6) in secluded grounds near Lessay

This two bedroom house was beautifully converted in 2011 from part of a 200 year old farm. It is furnished to a very high standard in a modern style whilst retaining its original features such as stone walls and beams. The two bedrooms are on the first floor, one with a single and a double bed, the other with a double bed. The triple bedroom is very large and can easily accommodate an extra single bed if needed.(good quality folding bed). The ground floor has a large lounge with a sofa-bed and a separate kitchen-diner. There are two bathrooms, one on each floor. The accommodation is light and spacious and contains everything needed for your comfort and enjoyment. Outside there are large gardens, a BBQ terrace, table tennis, a wooded area bounded by a small stream all surrounded by open meadows with grazing cows. An adjoining barn houses an indoor games room with snooker (small size), darts, etc. Bike hire for adults and children. Off street parking. The house is 15 minutes walk to the historic town of Lessay with its wonderful Abbey, fishing lake, Go-Karting, shops, bars and restaurants and only 5 km from the fabulous sandy beaches of St-Germain-sur-Ay & Creances.

Best French rental in over 25 years!

  • 5 of 5

The restoration/conversion of the old farm buildings has been carried out with great care and the result is a beautifully comfortable and peaceful holiday home. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped - my wife says it's the first French rental we've stayed in where the knives were sharp. The bedrooms are similarly spacious and light and the excellent bathroom is augmented by a downstairs shower-room. My wife and I, our eldest son and his partner, their 18-month daughter and - with the owners' permission - Irish lurcher Riley all had plenty of space and could relax in the comfortably furnished lounge..

The established garden is a delight. Adventurous dogs are probably best kept on the lead in the garden - the main temptation for Riley was to visit Larry in his kitchen. There are walks very close and the former railway line is not far way and runs through Lessay.

All towels and bedding were provided, as was cleaning, which made our short break very easy. Hot water was constantly available and all electricity usage covered in the rental, so no meter reading rituals at the end of the holiday. Larry was in residence and was an unobtrusive but always helpful host.

The countryside setting is peaceful but Lessay is minutes away by car and is well served by two supermarkets. A delightful vet - who speaks English if needed - has a small surgery opposite Intermarche.

Beaches are easily reachable by car - Riley and our granddaughter enjoyed St Germain, Agon-Coutanville and Pirou.

As our holiday was short we needed somewhere not too far from Cherbourg and this property was ideal - I hour away and we broke each journey at Valognes. Coutances with its superb cathedral and gardens, one of our favourite places, is easily accessible.

Larry and Lesley's property was a real find - it gave us a perfect family spring break and I cannot recommend it highly enough - I would happily have stayed there all summer. Hope it's not fully booked when we try to return!

Entspannte Ferien nahe Lessay

  • 5 of 5

Excellent accommodation in peaceful rural setting.

  • 4 of 5

We (family of 4 including our 3 year old Labrador) had a very nice and relaxing time. The house was maintained to the highest standards, very spacious with all amenities and very clean. The location of the property was great for local amenities and several outdoor activities. The outdoor garden area was beautiful.

The owners Lesley and Larry were very helpful (including making vets appointment for our dog) and signposted us to the relevant information. Access to the games room was very welcome as was the satellite TV.

It must have been an oversight but provision of some basic sonsumables like coffee filter papers, hand washing soap in toilets, couple of bin liners would have been useful.

Will strongly recommend property to families.

Stilechtes komfortables Landferienhaus

  • 5 of 5

It was a verry nice stay, warm and welcome

  • 5 of 5

we ( family with a bernise mountain dog) liked it very much because it was really quiet and you have enough space. The walk to the next village takes about 20 minutes. With the car you reach the beach in about 10 minutes.

We had a good time, thanks.

The house is located in the tiny hamlet of La Fontaine Felix, a short walk from the historic town of Lessay and only ten minutes drive to the unspoilt sandy beaches of Normandy’s western coast. Perfectly situated, the house is in the tranquil Cotentin National Park and combines the advantage of a peaceful, rural retreat with excellent access to all the local cultural and tourist sites, supermarkets and other shopping facilities. Lessay is renowned for its wonderful Norman Abbey dating from the time of William the Conquerer . In July and August, classical concerts and recitals take place here. Lessay is also famous for its annual 'La Foire de Sainte Croix' , an ancient trade fair which attracts nearly half a million visitors every September. Five minutes away is the national cycle/walking route on the former railway line which runs from Cherbourg to Mont St Michel and to save you the bother and expense of bringing your own bikes, we now hire them, fully equipped, for the whole family!

The nearest beaches are at St Germain-sur-Ay, Creances (10 minutes by car) and Pirou (15 minutes). St.Germain and Pirou have shops, cafes and restaurants as well as life-guard beach surveillance. Pirou also has a sea-swimming pool for when the tide is out. Creances beach is wild with 'discovery' footpaths through the sand dunes which are good for bird-watching. There are forests to explore nearby and interesting rambling footpaths and nature reserves. This part of the Norman coastline is famous for its oyster and mussel farming because of its very large tides; foot-fishing (peche a pied) where you follow the tide with a pick and a bucket on the rocks to search for crabs, mussels and fish is an enjoyable activity. Other interesting towns with beaches are at Portbail, an ancient picturesque fishing port, (17 km) and Barneville-Carteret, (24km) a chic resort with high cliff top walks. In the summer months, all these local towns host excellent fairs or 'vide-greniers' (a bit like car-boot sales but taking over the whole town) and these offer a vast range of items for sale - good places to pick up antiques and collectables at a reasonable price!

On the other side of the peninsula, (30 minutes drive) are the D-Day Landing Beaches, Cemeteries and Museums. Bayeux, with its famous Tapestry depicting William the Conquerer's 1066 invasion of England is at 80km. To the south of Lessay, at 110km, lies the most visited monument in France outside of Paris - the spectacular Mont St Michel. En route you will pass Coutances with its fabulous hill-top Cathedral and 'Jardin des Plantes' and Granville, the 'Monaco of the North' a large holiday resort and port with its famous Casino and picturesque old town on top of the hill where there is a very interesting Aquarium.
