Charming stone cottage with private pool and beautiful views in Tarn region

Updated: 21-Aug-2016
3 bedrooms, 1 family bathroom, 1 en suite shower room, large lounge and kitchen

Pear Tree Cottage is a sympathetically restored stone cottage in the tiny hamlet of Lesquilourie. It is an ideally placed hub from which you can explore Southwest France. Set in approximately private grounds, set to gardens and pasture. The house is cool and deceptively spacious. It is arranged around the main ground floor living areas, comprising a large lounge and sitting area with a high ceiling with exposed beams and an equally impressive kitchen featuring the ancient solid oak beams so much a feature of the classic French farms. The feel is traditional with stone walls, large picture windows and a rustic, yet luxurious atmosphere. There is a CD player, small television and DVD player in the lounge. The kitchen/dining room is a good size and well equipped with Fridge Freezer, Dishwasher, and full sized cooker. You will find a washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility room. The twin bedroom downstairs has an ensuite shower room & WC.

The house is approached along a single track road. There is private parking for 2 cars.

There is a the stone staircase to the front door next to a secure gate enclosing the ancient well.

The location is very private and quiet, with splendid views over rolling countryside to the south. The garden is south facing with a sunny aspect and a private pool and patio area. The pool is 5 metres by 10 metres, with wide steps into the shallow end, approximately 1.5metres deep. At the deep end the water is approximately 2 metres deep.

In the summer, meals are often taken outside, where there is a large table and seating for six. Pool furniture for six and parasols are also provided. There is also a BBQ - and for the more energetic there is a badminton set and swing ball available.

Places of Interest: Nearby, there are numerous picturesque villages and towns o explore; notably: Monesties, Cordes-sur-Ciel (a fortified city “in the sky”) where you will find numerous artisans. Cordes also has a number of pleasant bars and restaurants, many with magnificent views over the valley. Also close by is the city of Albi - with its impressive 12th century cathedral and the Toulouse Lautrec Museum. Albi also boasts a good selection of boutiques in a large pedestrian aeas. Albi is an ideal city to spend an evening with its lively bars and restaurants. Further afield, and approximately 40 minutes away, is the beautiful town of St Antonin Noble Val; the home of an impressive Sunday market where you can enjoy the local produce and spend time in the many cafes dotted around the market area.

Canoeing is also available at St Antonin, Albi and Leguipe.

Pear tree cottage - wonderfully relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a wonderfully relaxing 2 weeks with my son, daughter-in-law and two tinies aged 3 and 20mths. The cottage was beautifully furnished and immaculately clean; it's like a little tardis, much bigger than we thought and the photos do not do it justice! Wonderful warm and friendly welcome from Karen and Nigel who looked after the beautiful pool very unobtrusively. We had no problems but if we had done so, they would have been on hand and gave the impression that nothing would have been too much trouble. Beautiful countryside and many good local places to visit - if you can tear yourselves away from the peace and quiet of the cottage, pool and garden!

A very well appointed beautiful home.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay over a long weekend. The house is superb throughout, clean, fashionable, comfortable and sumptuous! With all mod cons. Fantastic large kitchen dining area and gorgeous lounge. Light airy comfortable bedrooms. Very clean and well maintained swimming pool with safety features, and large gardens/grass areas in which to enjoy a barbecue on the veranda outside the house of an evening. The house is situated in quiet farmlands in total privacy with fantastic views and just a short trip to several interesting villages and towns, with a huge variety of good value shopping and sightseeing opportunities. The owner was available should one have had a problem but we did not have any! I would thoroughly recommend this holiday home as a particularly ambient and peaceful place with potential to suit both busy families and quiet couples.. Well worth a stay here.., enjoy.

A fantastic cottage in beautiful rural setting

  • 5 of 5

Pear Tree Cottage is an ideal place for a relaxing holiday and base to explore the beautiful Tarn region of France. The property is very easy to reach from Toulouse Blagnac Airport and is like a Tardis inside offering spacious and clean good quality accommodation including lovely family kitchen/Diner and lounge leading onto the private pool. The owners live next door and were very welcoming and helpful with advice on local attractions and restaurants. The property is a little isolated in the hills outside above Carmaux and so a car is essential as most places of interest are a fair distance away. The idillic villages of Najac, Cordes s-Ciel and Sauveterre de Rouergue are a must and with a car can reached quite easily as is the beautiful City of Albi. There is also an abundance of wildlife to be observed in the locality of the cottage, we saw Golden Oriel many Shrikes, and various birds of prey play fighting over the cottage. Our children's favourites were the Swallows who dove down to drink from the pool. At night sitting on the patio the sky was lit by thousands of stars that living in the London area we just don't get to see often enough. Altogether a lovely property that we hope to return to one day soon.

Our Perfect Summer 2013 at Pear Tree Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Pear Tree Cottage was something of a revelation to us having never been to this part of France before. Having spent the last decade summering in the South, the Tarn was an unknown.

I based our choice mainly on the description of the cottage and on my middle daughters only demand for a private pool. The trip down was pleasant but not too far, passing through at Karen's (the owner) suggestion some very picturesque villages.

At first arriving it was easy to miss the cottage as it nestles into a grassy bank. We arrived early and somewhat frazzled from the drive down to be greeted by Karen who immediately ushered us into the cottage for a guided tour. For once I would have to say that the pictures on the website did not do the cottage justice. It was larger and brighter than we had expected and offered more than enough space for the six of us to rattle around in. The rooms were well appointed and spotlessly clean. The kitchen was a particularly welcome site and lacked for nothing to make our stay pleasant. Karen had also left a supply of essential goods and a bottle of wine, to help us settle in.

The rear of the cottage opened up into a small patio area with unspoilt views of the surrounding country side. It was at that point it dawned on us we would not have noisy neighbours as the houses and hamlets were few and far between. The pool was also larger than we had imagined and offered a welcome retreat from the afternoon sun or watching the wildlife ranging from deer and bats to cows.

Karen turned out to be a convivial host with a wealth of excellent local knowledge for all aspects of our stay whether it be food, places to visit or more importantly good local wines!

The Tarn is a pleasure. It's like Devon with sunshine! Most places you need a car to visit but the distances are not great. We particularly loved the many medieval villages on your door step particularly Najac and it castle and Cord Sur Ciel. Albi is a must to go and see if you want shopping and culture with the town along the river resembling Tuscany rather than France. The countryside was a joy to wander around with little traffic to avoid.

We were actually sad to leave to come home having all to easily fallen into a slower and more relaxed way of living. Overall it is difficult to find negative things to say about Pear Tree Cottage. The only negative I heard all holiday was the lack of internet access. Teenagers cannot survive without it!

This is definitely a place for us to return to soon

Just - absolutely lovely!

  • 5 of 5

For the first time ever we didn't want to come home! Pear Tree Cottage was a piece of heaven in the location, the comfort, the views, the wildlife, the weather and the places to visit. The pool was cleaned every morning and was spotless - we spent hours in it cooling, swimming and playing. The cottage was also spotless, so well equipped and easy to live in (having quality towels provided was a first in rentals for us and a helpful bonus). Mirandol was 7 mins away and had a wonderful bakery, butcher, deli and little supermarket and everyone was so friendly. Albi and Cordes sur ciel were both incredible places. We had an amazing and unforgettable family holiday here. Quiet, relaxing and beautiful. Sunsets and sunrises beyond belief sitting by the pool. We will return to do all the things we didn't do (canoeing), see the places we didn't see (Laguipe and St Anton), and chill out again. Thank-you Karen for being so welcoming, friendly and helpful.
