About the property

Stunning, very spacious villa sleeps up to 12. Private but central location

Believed to have once been the home of the village Governor in centuries gone by, Sakin Bahce is a very special house. It was restored from dereliction in 2003 using the finest materials and local craftsmen to create a home that is spacious, comfortable and authentic. It has been called 'the best house in Uzumlu'.

Furnished with hand made furniture and antique, carved wood there are many places from which to enjoy the wonderful views of the garden, pool & mountains.

Sakin Bahce (Tranquil Garden) sits in a large, walled garden offering space & privacy. Fruit trees including fig & pomegranate together with the small kitchen garden supply the freshest of fruit, vegetables and herbs. Numerous roses, shrubs and plants provide colour and scent.

The oval pool is 9.5 x 4.5 metres with water flowing over the edge to provide the soothing sound of a gentle waterfall.

Breathe in the mountain air; soak up the village atmosphere and relax in your own personal retreat.

Things to do: You could just enjoy relaxing in the garden with the occasional swim in the pool. However, there is much to do within the local area including great walks, an abundance of historical sites, sailing, shopping, pampering and eating out.

We have been visiting this area of Turkey since 1991 and know the area well. Based on our experience we'd recommend the following activities:

Charter a boat for the day and really get to appreciate the outstanding coastline of the greater Fethiye Bay.

Vist the ancient site of Pinara, Tlos, Xanthos, Letoon & Patara - all within apprximately one hour of Sakin Bahce

Walk around Kadyanda ( Lycian & Roman ruined city) and vist the rock tombs hidden in the forest above Uzumlu.

Watch the sun go down & the many paragliders at Turkey's most famous beach (Olu Deniz)

Soak up the atmosphere as you walk around the deserted village of Kaya Koy.

Experience a Turkish bath and massage

Enjoy a traditional Turkish breakfast - we have two favourite venues; one in a mountain setting and one closer to the coast - both serve home grown & cooked seasonal food.

About Beverley Grant

Originally from Dumfries in Scotland and Saddleworth in England we now live in Cheshire.

When we first visitied Fethiye in 1991 we fell in love with the stunning scenery, archaeological history and culture.We've also come to love the warmth of Turkish hospitality and traditional Turkish cuisine.

We have travelled to many great places in the world, but the Fethiye area of Turkey has a special place in our hearts. Sakin Bahce is not just a holiday rental, it is our home.

Why Beverley Grant chose Lycian & Turquoise Coast

We were staying with Turkish friends in Kaya Koy when we decided to spend an afternoon looking at property. We wanted to live alongside local people in a village community. We went to Uzumlu ( about 20 kms) from Fethiye and saw two old houses which had just been restored / extended. We were immediately drawn to the idea of giving new life to an old village house. Our architect showed us the derelict building and together we spent a year creating what is now our much loved home. It's also a very special place. The villagers tell us it was once the home of the village Governer. It is the largest, renovated house in the area.

From all aspects there are fabulous views of the surrounding mountains.

What makes this villa unique

To stay here is to enjoy a little piece of Turkish history combined with modern comforts.

Situated within a conservation zone, the house has a great location tucked away at the end of a cul de sac. It is private yet less than 5 minutes on foot from the centre of the village.

Recent guests described the garden as an 'Edenic paradise'.

The renovation combines many traditional features and materials with some of the necessities of modern life such as air conditioned bedrooms.

We love our home and continue to invest in it. In autumn 2015 we had the sitting room furniture re-upholstered and new curtains and blinds made.

Our second holiday in Sakin Bahce, fantastic place, fantastic holiday. It was our dream to come back here and it's everything and more than we could have asked for. We have fallen in love with all the people in the village who are so welcoming giving us fruit and food for our stay here.

  • Bedroom 1 is on the first floor. It opens onto its own balcony and also to a large covered terrace with comfortable seating. Bedroom 2 is located on the ground floor and has French doors opening onto a sunny, private courtyard. Bedroom 3 has dual aspect views and is also on the ground floor. Bedroom 4 had a traditional wooden 'Cumba' a kind of walk in bay window. Bedroom 5 has dual aspect views of the mountains. Bedrooms 6 & 7 are in the apartment and have ceilings that reduce in height towards the outside edge. All bedrooms have furniture handmade by local craftsmen from chestnut or cedar wood. All bedrooms are air-conditioned. A cot is available.

The walls of the house are half a metre thick stone (more in places) and as such enable the interior of the house to stay a little cooler in the heat of the summer. The entrance hall has hand made 2 seater sofa & 2 chairs. It offers a quiet, shady place to sit. The living room is located on the first floor and contains several antique, carved wooden doors and furniture hand made in reclaimed oak. There is a television, DVD player & Ipod docking station. The living room opens onto a large covered terrace with rugs & cushions forming a relaxed area. It's a good place to sit and have a morning coffee, a quiet place to read a book out of the sun or to lie & have a snooze. The large dining table is normally located on the ground floor covered terrace providing shade for more comfortable eating. In cooler months the table is moved inside to the entrance hall/ dining room. The apartment has its own small kitchenette and an open terrace with panoramic views. A high chair and cot are available.

Perfect family holiday - we'd love to come back!

The beautiful villa lived up to and exceeded our expectations: accommodation was clean, very spacious and suited the needs of our family (including children aged 4 and 1). Beautiful views from the two balconies. The infinity pool was larger than we expected, well-maintained and perfect for cooling off. The well-maintained garden with its multiplicity of loungers in various areas offered a range of options for relaxing in sun or in shade.

The house was very well equipped, particularly the kitchen. Air-con - which was very necessary - worked very well in the ground floor bedrooms, less well in the other bedrooms. It would certainly have been welcome in the main 1st floor living room.

The village of Uzumlu was delightful. We appreciated being only 5 minutes walk from the centre yet in a very quiet location. The local people were very friendly and helpful. We particularly enjoyed the take-away pide salon, the new "Flora and Fauna" café, cocktails at The Grape Garden, the Secret Garden restaurant off the main square, and the Cadianda restauarant which does scrumptious Turkish breakfasts.

The village market on Friday was a highlight, as was the Fethiye Tuesday market and eating at Fethiye Fish Market. Other highlights were the beautiful beach at Patara, the 12-island boat trip (with 4-5 stops for swimming from the boat in delightful coves) and the deserted, atmospheric village of Kayakoy. Olu Deniz offers lovely scenery, watching the paragliders and safe paddling for young children but we found the Blue Lagoon somewhat overcrowded and touristy compared with Patara.

The information provided was accurate and very helpful and Beverley was great at providing additional information and advice on request. She also responded promptly to a couple of technical problems, via the local team who look after the villa.

We would certainly recommend this villa without hesitation and we would definitely like to spend another holiday in Sakin Bahce.

Absolute perfection!

We stayed at this amazing villa as a group of three families (11 of us in total). It is every bit as good as it looks on the website. Spacious, clean and with high quality furnishings and equipment. It is in an ideal quiet location yet only a short walk into the lovely village where there are some really nice and inexpensive restaurants and bars. We have stayed at many holiday villas over the years and this was certainly the best we have ever experienced. Beverley was a wonderful host and went the extra mile at every stage, sending us local information before we arrived and then calling us at the villa to make sure everything was okay. She even sent us a text to let us know of a meteor shower that was taking place one of the evenings, recommending that we view it from the patio in pitch darkness.

I thoroughly recommend this property and can guarantee that you will not find anything better anywhere!!!

Sakin Bache - a lovely traditional Turkish retreat

This is a fantastic property tucked away in a delightful village. The house as been beautifully restored retaining many original features and provides high quality and extremely comfortable accomodation. it is set amongst other houses in the village and is not overlooked.

The house itself is very well equiped and maintained and is set in an established garden with several fruit trees and a vegetables to pick.

The village itself has a number of restaurants / shops and cafes close at hand and the square is a great place to sit and watch village life, or you can have a shave in the local barbers. Umzulu still retains its charm with a number of houses selling fabrics made by the locals who are always so friendly and welcoming.

The village is within easy distance of the main town of Fethiye, beaches and other attractions.

Overall we wouldn't hesitate in recommending this property to anyone who wanted to experience life in a traditional Turkish setting.
