Quinta da Fortaleza was the show house of the Vigia development of luxurious beach villas, perfectly located in a peaceful setting between the unspoilt pretty villages of Salema and Burgau. The very essence of outdoor living has been encapsulated with reams of rich decking, vast expanses of terracing and a private swimming pool. A perfect contemporary retreat to escape from everyday life. Travel: Nearest airport Faro. 1 hour drive to property, most of which is on a good motorway. Given the location of the property, we feel car hire is essential to make the most of your holiday. Driving instructions will be provided. Lisbon is approximately 2.5 hours by road.

Places to Visit: The Western Algarve is one of the last remaining unspoilt regions of Southern Europe where undulating countryside is speckled with historic towns and quaint hamlets finged by a coastline of secluded coves and pretty fishing villages untouched by time. To the East is the historic town of Lagos with its Roman walls still largley in tact where you can wander through a maze of winding cobbled streets, pavement restaurants, cafe bars, vibrant nightlife and shops. There is a marina where you can go Big Game Fishing, dolphin watching, boat trips to the caves or charter boats. To the West lies Sagres and the spectacular headland of Cap St. Vincent, the most south-westerly point of Europe. Quinta da Fortaleza is ideally located between the picturesque fishing villages of Burgau and Salema where traditional charm remains with fishermen mending their nets and pots along the beach beside their boats. Fabulous seafood restaurants amongst whitewashed fisherman's cottages.

Parque da Floresta: As Quinta da Fortaleza is part of the Vigia development group, you will have the advantage of the following facilities being available to you at the award winning development of Parque da Floresta. A 10 min drive away is the spectacular 18 hole par 71 golf course. As well as the Vigia Golf Academy and driving range, tennis, Football Acadamy, kids clubs, tuition for golf and tennis available. At extra cost SPA Floresta offers the perfect place to unwind with facial and body treatments. A steam room, sauna and spa are also available. For the more energetic facilities include a well-equipped gym and exercise studio. A wide range of dining facilities are offered. We are a family of 5 and one of the original owners at Quinta da Fortaleza. We have three children who are now, 23, 21 and 15 all of whom still love coming on holiday with us to this very special area of Portugal. We all find something different here to make our holidays and time together special.

Why Annette Beagley chose Vila Do Bispo region

Having visited different areas of the Algarve, we loved this area in particular because it was still authentically Portuguese. We bought our villa off plan, being won over by the contemporary design, the size of the living spaces, bedrooms and bathrooms, the stunning views, being able to walk to the beach, we are close to Lagos and many other restaurants, numerous golf courses and be within what is still 8 years later a very traditional area of Portugal. We were able to have input into the design to make it what we still feel is a villa that has the wow factor everytime we visit. The view out to sea is constantly changing and never disappoints.

We hope we have made the villa a contemporary home from home and somewhere anyone would be very happy to spend their holidays, either as a base to explore this area of Portugal, play golf, go surfing or just to take the opportunity to relax and unwind whether in a small group or families sharing. Short walk to beach and beach bar. Many other excellent beaches nearby. The West Coast beaches with their spectacular surf are only 20 minutes away. Parque da Floresta Golf course and facilities only 10 mins away. 30% discount available. Lagos only 15 mins drive with large choice of restaurants, bars and shops. Marina where you can fish, dolphin watching, charter boats. Cap St.Vincent 30 min. drive. Beaches of Salema and Sagres short drive. Two good supermarkets close by. Slide and Splash, Aqualand, Lagos Zoo, Zoo Marine, Algarve Shopping if you fancy an alternative to the wonderful beaches. Many other good golf courses nearby Quinta da Lago and Vilamoura back towards Faro. The Monchique mountains are a short drive away and provide an alternative view of the Algarve, where a drive through forests will lead you to roadside piri-piri restaurants and the Moorish town of Silves with its castle. Many good restaurants in Burgau and Salema. Surf schools at Sagres and on West Coast.

Golf: Quinta da Fortaleza is about a 10 minute drive from the spectacular golf course at Parque da Floresta. Whatever your ability it can stretch your skills to the limit! It is an 18 hole par 71 course (5605m). Parque da Floresta also has the Vigia Golf Acadamy and driving range with tuition also available. We can also provide contacts who will arrange discounted golf at other courses. There are at least 7 good alternative courses within 15-20 minute drive, including Espiche, Boavista, Palmares with some links holes along Meia Praia Beach and two at Morgado.

  • The size of the property can easily accommodate two families sharing. All bedrooms have large en suite bathrooms. Fixtures and fittings are all of a high specification and include glass bowl sinks. Bedroom 4 also has flat screen TV and Sky satellite. QDF 39 IS A NON-SMOKING PROPERTY. NO PETS ALLOWED. Although we can comfortably sleep 10 unfortunately, we no longer take bookings over 8 unless by special agreement. BOOKINGS ARE LIMITED TO THE NUMBER OF GUESTS AGREED AT TIME OF BOOKING. No extra guests are permitted to stay without our prior agreement.

Opens onto outside terrace with large dining table. Further terrace with seating and table. Separate ground floor cloakroom. Separate 'wet area' WC close to pool. Lower outside covered terrace, if you prefer to sit in the shade, with barbecue leads down to private pool and shower in a sheltered sun trap with sun loungers. All bedrooms have outside terraces, master bedroom and bedroom 2 decked terrace. All with fantastic sea views. The outdoor balconies/terraces and internal staircases have open aluminium railings which may be a consideration for young children. Photographs show the railings. There are some unfenced drops from basement level to pool level
