The inverted accommodation comprises of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, master bedroon has en suite facility, family bathroom, upstairs lounge with balcony, dining area and kitchen. The cottage lies between Penrith and Keswick and is only 5 miles away so it is an ideal place for exploring all the lakes has to offer.

Fun for all the family and romantic for couples: Whitbarrow village is a great place for a family holiday be as energetic or relaxed as you wish. There are many beautiful walks around and about. The pretty village of Greystoke is only a few minutes by car and is well worth a visit with its beautiful old church, village post office and of course the local pub which serves food during the evening and Sunday lunch. During the summer the open air pool is available and along side that is the kiddies playground. From there travel on to Penrith a market town that has the charm of how towns used to be, with its small friendly cinema, this is a great experience and far away from the multi-plex cinemas of many towns these days it is well worth a visit. In the centre of Penrith is the George Hotel fabulous snacks and meals great coffees, winter time is lovely with the open fires and warm. friendly atmosphere. This area is lovely for those who wish to go back in time and enjoy life at a leisurely pace.

Rheged with its huge cinema, Keswick with its lake: Rheged is one of the lakes popular tourist attractions, its has huge cinemas which show film of a very different nature to the local cinema these are educational and thoroughly enjoyable for example discover Everest, or a bugs world as well as the cinema there are also exhibitions, small shops and coffee shop and all this is underground for further info try their web page. Not far from Rheged is the Dalmain House a beautiful old house set in fabulous grounds with gardens and a delicious tea shop opening times vary depending on time of year again they hold various events and exhibitions. Another area not to miss is Keswick with its main street which holds the market on certain days. Its a beautiful place regardless of the weather, cobbled streets, tea shops specialist shops and fun things for the kids, crazy golf, pitch and putt plus nice restaurants. The lake operates sailing trips these vary depending on the time of year, but its a great way to sit back and relax.

Two short video's are on You Tube (Whitbarrow Village)

Go further afield to Carlisle or down to Windermere: A beautiful old city with its castle it makes a lovely place to wander and is the gateway to the Scottish borders, whilst staying at Whitbarrow you really can see a large part of the lake district. Go south and you come to Windermere what some people regard as the main tourist place, it is well worth a visit as is Ambleside and so many more places in the lakes, everyday can be spent exploring one of the most beautiful places in England or if preferred just staying at Whitbarrow village and relaxing in the pool or jacuzzi, having a drink at the bar and enjoying the evening entertainment the choice is yours.

About the Owner

Dave and I live in the Blackburn area, both being born and bred in Lancashire, we are retired with a daughter at university. Our cottage was bought as a family holiday home, but as chapters in life change we don't use it as much ourselves. We want to provide our clients with a family holiday to remember as we ourselves have many happy memories made at No 12 Kirkstone cottage.

A really nice family site, quiet, modern & a very good location for all Lakes attractions.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 5 nights during half term, 4 adults & 2 children.

The site was lovely, very modern, peaceful and well maintained. The pool facility was very good, my only negative comment is that we had to wait to use the pool on one occasion as they restrict numbers.

The cottage was very good, spacious kitchen & living areas with all tge equipment required for extensive self catering.

Our party was very comfortable throughout our stay and we hope to return in the future.

Wonderful property

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful stay in this lovely property recently. Extremely comfortable throughout, bed amazing. Beautifully laid out, very clean and welcoming. Lovely site, swimming pool an added bonus - we had to wait a bit for entrance because only so many are allowed in which is good. Meal in restaurant was very tasty but very slow service which was a bit unfortunate because we had a 2 year old with us who was getting restless, but as I say, food delicious.

Will certainly return to Whitbarrow.

Location

From the Owner

After many years spent holidaying and day tripping to the Lake District particularly the Keswick area, we were fortunate enough to acquire the cottage as it was being built. We mostly used the cottage for our own benefit as we had a young daughter and the many enjoyable weekends and school holiday spent there were priceless. It is a beautiful area and a great base to explore the Lakes, many a picnic has been had around the shores of the vast Lakes and many memories made whilst up there. The fact that the cottage is 'upside down' was a real attraction to our daughter and her school pals, now as our daughter has grown we rent the cottage to other families who can benefit from the many pleasurable areas in and around the cottage.

Facilities

From the Owner

Our cottage is a end terrace which overlooks fields from the lounge, as it is an end property so has extra windows which give it a lovely light feeling. A big attraction for us was the leisure area, with its pool, kiddie pool, steam room and sauna not to mention the gym area which admittedly we didn't use much. It was so nice to have a excellent restaurant on the complex as well as evening entertainment, particularly after spending a full day out and about in the Cumbrian fresh air it was lovely to relax with a nice glass of wine. After a nice meal then strolling through the village on a summers evening or indeed on a crisp frosty night was charming and made for a very good nights sleep. Indeed if we didn't want to go to far the next day we could always wander through the woodland walk which is home to red squirrels and an a abundance of ducks. If you enjoy the fresh air and the coziness of a 'upside down cottage' with the feel of a little village this could be right up your street. The property does not allow pets, BUT a newly build kennels has opened up on the neighboring farm, www.berrier-boarders.co.uk a small 5* boarding establishment, with 35 acres where the dogs are walked at least 4 times a day or you can pick them up in the morning then drop them of for bed at night, perfect.
