The apartment takes up a whole upstairs wing of the villa and comprises 2 to 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (one of which is an en-suite with a luxuriously large bathtub), a modern fitted kitchen with lovely large, adjoining terrace shaded by the roof, a snug living room, and a balcony at the front of the house. The apartment is on the first upstairs floor of the villa and is reached via a shared stairway from the garden.
The kitchen has all new appliances including an electric oven, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, etc. It has very large glass doors opening onto the generous terrace, which is surrounded by wisteria and ideal for al-fresco dining. Alternatively there's a large gazebo in the garden with a picnic table.
Casa Tolomei is a stunning historic villa located in the centre of the famous spa town of Bagni di Lucca, steps away from restaurants, cafes, shops, supermarkets and banks. No need to take the car every time you need to buy something, or to dine out - everything is right here. Even so, you will feel hidden away from the world in the magical walled garden with mature palm trees and (in summer) the pool .
It's also a perfect starting point for trips to nearby cities such as Lucca, Pisa, Florence, or Viareggio and its beaches.
In the immediate vicinity of the house one can find nature walks (including the Poets Walk along the river, accessed via steps across the road from the house, and a circuit through the woods which can include the thermal baths at Bagni Caldi) and all services such as restaurants, banks and supermarkets. Nearby there are stunning villages nestled among the hills and mountains, the Canyon Park (a well-known adventure park), and a famous ski resort - Abetone. The walled historic centre of Lucca is not to be missed.
The English poets Robert & Elizabeth Barrett-Browning were summer residents here during the 1850s, writing many letters and working on their poetry. Later, in the early 1900s, composer Giacomo Puccini was a regular guest as he was a close friend of the owner of the house at that time.
The front facade of the villa is famously decorated with Liberty (Art Nouveau) period frescoes, while the garden facade has the classical period design dating from the 1700-1800s. Inside, several rooms exhibit original antique frescoes, including the stunning grand sala which is entirely covered in frescoes.
