'Derwen' is the Welsh word for 'oak' and reflects the fact that Bryn Melyn is surrounded by native sessile oak trees, typical of the landscape in this part of Wales. Situated on the first floor this apartment has been designed to maximise the sense of landscape and location. A small lobby leads into the main room of this apartment, a generous living/dining/kitchen space. The room's main features are the huge windows flooding the room with light and affording views of the Mawddach Estuary and Cardigan Bay. Off the living room is a generous bedroom featuring a king size bed with memory foam mattress and a spacious ensuite shower room.

Excellent stay

Veey clean and tidy apartment with amaxinb views from all windows. Plenty of utensils in the kitchen. The owners were friendly and welcoming. They were onsite if we needed them.

Views to Die For

Absolutely lovely apartment with the most amazing views over the estuary. Well equipped kitchen, tastefully furnished, comfortable bed, modern bathroom. Couldn’t fault it. The terrace was lovely too. Didn’t try out the hot tub as it’s was a heatwave during our visit, so no extra heat required. The information re walks and eating out was excellent. We tried many of the walks and they were really well described. Definitely try the precipice walk.

Lovely stay from check-in to check-out. Hosts very friendly & there if needed. They have thought of everything you might possibly need. They even fixed the weather!! Highly recommend.

Great holiday venue in a special part of Wales.

Lovely hi spec apartment in a lovely place. Lots of local walks and some further afield. Good maps and walk details available. Would visit again.

Xmas break 2021

From start to finish we felt blessed to have had the opportunity to stay here, we were met by the owner who was a really lovely man. Our room was above all our expectations with added extras like a bottle of wine, crackers, mince pies, milk and a bottle of water in the fridge, and even a bag of Treats for our dog Ruby. We honestly couldn’t have asked for anything else to make our stay as perfect as it was, location is also very good with a lovely little town and beach which Ruby loved by the way. The locals were all very accommodating and welcoming, we even got to walk along the bridge at Barmouth which opened on Xmas day after being closed for 3 months so we were the first members of public to cross. We wished all the workman which was about 30 plus a very merry Christmas, it was so nice to see their smiling faces even though it was Xmas day and they were at work. I would highly recommend staying here you will be spoilt and not want for anything.

Heather and David have been married for 23 years. In 2009 we moved to Barmouth in north Wales to take over Bryn Melyn Guest House and took it to number 1 on Tripadvisor. In 2018 we re-imagined Bryn Melyn as self catering apartments and look forward to many more years welcoming guests to this stunning part of Snowdonia.

Why they chose this property

Bryn Melyn is situated on a hillside on the edge of Barmouth in the Snowdonia National Park. Despite being just 10 minutes walk to the cafes, bars and restaurants of this vibrant seaside resort it enjoys a quiet, peaceful location. It is the views, however, that set Bryn Melyn apart. Each apartment enjoys stunnning far-reaching views across the beautiful Mawddach Estuary, out to Cardigan Bay and across to the Cadair range of mountains.

What makes this property unique

Bryn Melyn is a Victorian house with a 1970s extension that enjoys one of the best locations on the Mawddach Estuary. Being so close to the amenities of Barmouth is fantastically convenient and yet the house sits in a gloriously peaceful setting with usually just the sound of birdsong to disturb you. It really does offer the best of both worlds - the facilities of a vibrant seaside resort with the tranquillity of the countryside.
