Four Horseman Experience- Layden House🍀🏈 Former Owner Elmer Layden

🍀🍀NOW BOOKING 2024 ND FOOTBALL SEASON! 🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈Availability includes ND vs. FSU game, JPW, and ‘25 Graduation. Bring the extended family!

Our convenient and historical location is a Notre Dame Football fan favorite! Make your Fighting Irish weekend complete by enjoying a piece of Notre Dame's history right next to campus in beautiful Coquillard Woods.

Layden House was built in 1927 by Russell Smith, the developer of the historic area and founder of Coquillard Woods Social Club (now Morris Park Country Club).

Four Horseman, Elmer Layden and his wife Edith were residents in the 1940's during his time as Notre Dame's Athletic Director and his years as The Commissioner of the NFL.
Elmer Layden was one of the distinguished members of Notre Dame football's 1924 team under Coach Knute Rockne. Together with Harry Stuhldreher, Don Miller, and Jim Crowley they comprised the winning backfield known as the Four Horsemen.

The house is within walking distance (1.5 miles) to campus and all the entertainment surrounding it (including Eddy Street Commons, The Linebacker, Mitch's, The American Pancake House, Nick's Patio, Starbucks, and Martin's Grocery Store).

This beautiful home was built in1927 in the French Tudor architectural style and features 6 bedrooms including one king size, three queen size, two full size, and one twin trundle.

Fully remodeled, Layden House includes all the charm of a home from its era as well as the convenience of modern amenities (including air conditioning, fully stocked and modern kitchen, laundry, and free Wi-Fi).

Outdoor entertaining area features fireplace and three separate patios - one for morning coffee, one for dining, and one for an evening fire. In the time the home was built, the rear lawn was used for croquet matches. There is a child's playhouse in the fenced in yard as well.

Dining Room seats 12 and is the hub of the home. While the kitchen is smaller, it is fully functional with every amenity for preparing large meals. You will want to stock up on bags of ice when you get here for the two giant coolers for use during your stay.

Extra large driveway can house 4 cars...in addition there is legal street parking. Garage parking is not available. NOTE: Be sure to remove valuables and lock vehicles as the popular neighborhood for high-end rentals can sometimes attract car break-ins.

No ND Parking Pass? No problem. Layden House is readily accessible by Ubër/Lyft or a short walk (1.5 miles).

Make your memorable Notre Dame weekend unique with a stay at Layden House!

The Fisher Family
This house has so much history. My husband graduated from ND in 1965. My daughter graduated in 2000. We had our 6 children and 2 grandchildren and my sons in laws who had never been to ND. The house is very comfortable. I love the dining table. It seats 12.

Wonderful Property
My family came together from across the country, from Seattle to Boston, in order to attend a ND game. My father is a '62 grad and my brother is an '85 grad. The property accommodated our large extended family. There were plenty of sleeping accommodations and bathrooms. The dinning room and family room had plenty of room for us to eat together and watch Rudy in comfort! The outdoor patio and fireplace area is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a nice cocktail after a Notre Dame win! Would definitely stay there again! Go Irish!!

About the host

We have always loved older homes. Our first home was in Chicago, IL and built in 1870, our second was in Granger, IN and was built in 1987, our third was in Chester Springs, PA and was a townhome built in 1997. Ever since returning to the area in 2014 we knew we had to get back to our old house roots. Although we have only lived in Layden House since 2015, we already know that this house will be home for a long time. We love the neighborhood and the accessibility to Notre Dame and Morris Park Country Club.

Why they chose this property

Accessibility to University of Notre Dame's campus. Four Horseman, Elmer Layden resided here in the 1940's

What makes this property unique

Historical home once owned by Four Horseman, Elmer Layden who resided here in the 1940's. Please keep in mind that this house is an older home (nearly 100 years) and with that comes the unique character that comes with age.
