The sun room opens onto patio and private fenced garden.

The rooms are all very spacious with ceramic tiled floors. We provide a welcome pack (bottle of wine, tea/coffee, French baguette, toilet paper, detergents).

Relax and enjoy the tranquil manor grounds in their quiet rural settings, with their spacious gardens, 15m x 7m swimming pool, and indoor games room. Our facilities are available to all of our b&b, and self catering guests.

: There are many activities in the area and suitable for all ages groups.

The most popular theme park being the Grande Parc Puy du Fou (set in thousands of acres of parkland). Immerse yourself in the spectacle of the gladiatorial arena – complete with chariots, lions, Christians, and a Caesar. Watch in awe the amazing falconry in the magical medieval château. Where Vikings battle and musketeers display their swordsmanship, and wonder at some of the most ingenious special effects ever seen. Or watch the evening performance of the Cinescenie – where over 3,000 locals put on a show complete with firework display never to be forgotten and all just 20 minutes drive away.It re-enacts the history of the Vendée using actors, horse-men, falconers and stuntmen and is truly spectacular. The beautifully kept Palmyre Zoo is also worth a visit, housing some 1600 animals including rhinos and polar bears. For water slides and pools, visit the Atlantic Toboggan at Les Becs.

Museums and château/wine: Fontenay le Comte, birthplace of Rabelais, is home to the Vendée Museum and the Château de Terre Neuve with its collection of 18th and 19th century clothing. Eleanor of Aquitaine's Abbey in Neuil-sur-l'Autise has beautifully preserved cloisters and a multi-media museum.

Wine has been grown in the Vendée since Roman times. The wine from the vineyards of the Brem Fiefs is distinguished by its taste of apples. At Beaulieu sous la Roche the Cave de l'Atrie produces good vin de pays in red, white and rose whilst the wine from Mercier Frères is said to be served at Buckingham Palace. Their whites and red are sold in 10 litre boxes at a very reasonable price.

The Vendée is famous for its seafood; everything from Dover sole, sea bream, bass and sardines to oysters, mussels, cockles, whelks, razor clams and crabs. A plateau de fruits de mer is a real treat, with all sorts of shell fish piled high and costing a fraction of what you would pay in the U.K.

Resturants/shops: For local dining, there are 2 wonderful restaurants close by. One overlooks the Lac de Rochereau and has breathtaking scenery, the other, a watermill with charming character less than 5 min. drive. Our nearest town Pouzauges has many restaurants should you prefer a light tasty dinner at reasonable prices.

Chantonnay located 11km has a large supermarket - superU.

Our villages Monsireigne (10 minute walk) has a pharmacies, doctors surgery, post office and shop and St.Prouant has a wonderful bakery and a lovely walk on a summers morning so why not explore the area on foot and meet the friendly locals, exercising and breathing fresh air or perhaps cycling. There are 700km of cycle paths in the Vendee.

Perfect cottage, excellent reception

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this cottage in august. The cottage has all the equipment you need and has a private garden. The owners are very friendly. On a rainy day they provided us all extra toys for our children, which was really nice.

The cottage is very well furnished. On arrived there was a small welcome package ready for us, which is reallly exactly what you need after a long travel. The pool was perfect and surrounded by deckchiares. On the property there are some animals (2 horses, 2 pigs, 3 chickens) which is realy nice for the children.

There a few villages nearby, as well as lake with a small beach. Keep in mind that this is less touristic and more rural part of the Vendee. Nevertheless there a some good restaurants within less than five minutes driving.

The Courtyard Cottage is located in the historic area of the Vendee 1 hour from the beautiful sandy beaches - Les Sables D'olonne known as 'mini Nice' - famous for sailing in particular the yacht race- The Vendee Globe and La Tranche sur Mer - the surfers paradise are considered to be the best in Europe.

The Grande Parc Puy du Fou is the largest outdoor show in the world just 20 minutes drive away.

A must see – Futurescope – near Poitiers is a virtual reality Internet park and has an all around cinema where the pictures actually extend beneath you.

For smaller members of the family – visit Parc Pierre Brun in the Mervant forest or horse riding or maybe karting – (there are 11 circuits in the Vendee).

There are many châteaux in the region, but the two most important are the Château de la Guignardiere, a fine example of Renaissance architecture, and Château Tiffauges, built between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries and home to the infamous Bluebeard.
