The fully detached Eco Certified Trullo built in beautiful honey-coloured limestone is unique. This bee-hived shaped Trullo is located in the village of Xewkija, the oldest in Gozo. Set in its own south facing garden with mature olive, cypress and citrus trees, the lagoon overflowing swimming pool 16 x 9.5m) is sure to please.
Inside, the rooms have been tastefully decorated and furnished in restful shades of summer to give a stylish, yet practical interior.
The accommodation consists of 3 BR, one with en suite plus main bathroom. Two bedrooms have an LG air condition/heating system on a pay per use basis. It can sleep 8 persons comfortably. There is a lovely sofa in the round open plan lounge/diner, oak dining table with 6 chairs, a fully equipped kitchen with black granite worktops - this leads onto the splendid patio/sun deck area with pool shower and built-in-barbecue.
Outfitted with everything from iPod dock and WiFi to a washing machine and cable TV, you will enjoy the comforts of home while you explore the ancient prehistoric valley of Mgarr ix-Xini with its perfectly pebbly beach and clear waters.
The pebbly beach of Mgarr ix-Xini is the same bay where Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have shot their most recent film, By the Sea.
The village of Xewkija (scheukiia): Xewkija is famous for its church simply known as 'the Rotunda', dedicated to St John the Baptist. Not only does it dominate the village, it dominates the entire island. The village has an eccentrically suburban air for an agricultural community. Men on ancient lilac-coloured Vespas roar noisily through the narrow twisting medieval streets wearing soup-bowl helmets and shot guns slung across their backs; a handful of people too old to work the fields sit beside their bamboo-slatted front doors awaiting the cool of the day, while tourists stare at their cathedral-sized church. The single most impressive feature is the dome, a 45,000-ton structure set on eight columns.
A short walk from the trullo leads down the valley of Mgarr ix-Xini. The swimming in the small fjord at the bottom of the steep single track is clean and suitable for children. Further out the waters are dark, deep and clear against the sheer cliff face offering excellent diving and snorkelling.
Trullo Gozitano is one of just 7 properties awarded ECO certification by Malta Tourism Authority in Gozo. The Eco certification is the national scheme for ensuring the environmental, socioeconomic, and cultural sustainability of tourist accommodation on the Maltese Islands and has been recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council as fully reflecting the GSTC criteria.
Ted M.Mizzi is the author of the book The Rotunda - A Testament To Faith, Courage, And Love which is available from Kindle/Amazon. Ted was born 60 years ago and spent much of his childhood happily trekking down the valley of Mgarr ix-Xini or playing in the shadow of the rising Rotunda. Ted lived in NYC for almost 14 years and is a graduate of Malta University.

This property is both magical and unique featuring stone conical roof that you will not see anywhere else in the world. This together with the massive walls keeps the trullo/bungalow cool and comfortable in summer. The superb overflowing swimming pool and the south facing garden with the built-in-barbecue and shower will no doubt add immensely to one's enjoyment while staying here.
Very tranquil area, yet within walking distance to all basic amenities.
After being told about Gozo for an unique place to visit, I came across Ted's accommodation. Booking such facilities on line is a risky chance, as you have to rely on images and the feedback already given. I would like to reiterate the positive feedback already highlighted by other happy customers. Once we found this hidden gem, we were made to feel welcome and left to settle in a clean and well presented home. The house met all our needs, especially the the swimming pool!
In the evenings after spending time exploring the island, we enjoyed chilling at the house. Having another settee may be more suitable for larger groups, however we weren't on holiday to watch TV. In the evenings we used the opportunity to watch bats flying outside or family time playing games which we took. Everyday we spent exploring different parts of the island, so a car is a must! You need to be a confident driver, with good skills in negotiating roads and traffic. You cannot get lost on this island, roads are clearly labelled, and if needed locals would help. If in doubt look for the Rotunda, this is just one of many beautiful churches which needs to be seen. The Gozo bus tour was a welcome break, and an opportunity to have lots of fresh air.
The people on Gozo are so friendly, and their history and way of life is a must which should be experienced. Every town has its own unique thing to offer, and seeing the odd British symbolic object such as the telephone box and post boxes were bizarre! Using Ted's accommodation allowed us as family to feel relaxed and welcomed, it certainly gets my seal of approval.
6 of us have just returned from a family holiday at Ted's wonderful, unique villa. It is located in a fantastic position to explore Gozo (we hired a car) and very close to shops and places to eat but you will need to travel to a bay or beach of your choosing. They are not a walk away. The villa itself is clean and very well presented with everything you will need. The pool is fantastic and there is a lovely walled outside area with seating or sunbeds to relax on during the day or evening. There is also a BBQ. If I had one gripe it would be there is only air conditioning in 2 of the 3 bedrooms and the one without has bunkbeds so its the children's room where air conditioning is probably most needed to get them to sleep properly. You also pay for the air conditioning separately via a meter. We used it at night only and it was working out at about 3 euro's per night for both rooms. The owner Ted came meet us on arrival and is a very knowledgeable man who will explain and help with all you need to know. He is really warm and friendly. He's also written a book about the Rotunda in Xewkija which we purchased and got him to sign as it's a good read and a wonderful place to visit. All in all, a great holiday with an excellent owner and we would definitely return and recommend. Thank you Ted. :-)
Ted the owner kindly met us by the Rotunda and guided us to the property which is accessed down a short dusty rough lane. We have been using villas for nearly 30 years and we have never before had such a magnificent private pool which was clean and clear. The sides of the pool could do with a lick of paint but this did not detract at all from the enjoyment. The villa was very spacious and clean. There is a small takeaway 5 mins walk where we fed a family of 4 for 35 euros. The main square is 15 mins away with an excellent sports bar (best rabbit I tasted) and a European restaurant (quite pricey). We also walked through the commercial estate to the Vineyard restaurant which was excellent (also quite pricey). Strawberry supermarket is 5 mins walk and could provide all your basic essentials. Lidl is 15 mins walk but I wouldn't fancy carrying much shopping back. A/c in 2 bedrooms and large portable fan were very welcome. Ted was very kind and unobtrusive and resolved any minor niggles quickly and with grace. Fantastic villa, fantastic pool, fantastic holiday!
We stayed in Ted's villa for three weeks on our Honeymoon. It was absolutely amazing. Everything is extremely clean and the pool is just heaven. Lovely and big. Ted was really helpful throughout our entire stay. The pool area is very private. The BBQ is brilliant. There are two stores just a couple of minutes from the villa which stock pretty much everything. The Maltese White and rose wine is amazing. A car is really recommended and we hired Ted's car which is a 1991 Honda Civic, manual choke, wind down windows and the most coolest car on the island. It was brilliant. It did not matter where we parked, it was alway cool when we got in it. No need to hire anything posh. This car was ideal. You could park anywhere except for in from of garages and double yellow lines. Rules of the road are simple - take it easy and expect people to pull out in front of you - no worries. Victoria took about 20 minutes to walk to from the Villa. We found the ideal gym - Shape Up run by Anton. €22 each for two weeks plus personal training from Anton - amazing! Our favourite bay was Hondoq which had very cheap amazing wine and simple, wonderful food. I am vegetarian and found plenty of choice. The sea is so warm. Go and hire a boat from Xlendi for half or full day - drive it yourself. It is such fun. Go to Crystal Bay rather than the Blue Lagoon as it is not so touristy and just as amazing. When finished go and have a meal in the Pirates Galley and watch the fish feeding on bread. Best meal ever there. If you want Newspapers, go to book shops or Arkadia shopping centre and you will find them.
We had the. Last amazing Honeymoon and thank you Ted for looking after us. We will be back.

Great pool and location. Close to good restaurants and shops. The rental car was needed to fully explore the island. Secluded garden and Mr Mizi was very attentive and knowledgeable of the island. We even purchased his book. Ample facilities for the price. The outstanding feature of the villa aside from the fascinating bee hive design was the pool. The whole family spent hours in the pool. A great and memorable holiday.
The Citadel in Victoria/Rabat and the Ggantija temples in Xaghra are just a few minutes' driving distance. Both are worth seeing. Moreover, the sandy beach of Ramla and the seaside resorts of Marsalforn and Xlendi are also within 15 minutes.
Private boats to Blue Lagoon in Comino leave from Mgarr harbour almost every hour.
Dwejra, the Inland Sea is spectacular, particularly late in the afternoon to watch the sun dipping in the Mediterranean sea.
The private swimming pool measures 16 x 9.5m and the surrounding sundeck area is over 100m.
