** SPECIAL DISCOUNT OFFERS APPLY FOR BOOKINGS MID JULY - END SEPTEMBER - BOOK BEFORE 6TH FEBRUARY TO SAVE 12.5% IN JULY AND SEPTEMBER AND 15% IN APRIL FOR BOOKINGS OF 2 WEEKS OR MORE **

This 2 bedroom apartment is modern and comfortable with air conditioning in both bedrooms, and is new to the market. The kitchen opens out onto a large private roof terrace, with covered coperta and lighting, overlooking fields for the obligatory alfresco dining. There is also direct access to a further large private sun roof terrace (i.e. for this apartment only) with sun loungers and day round sunshine and great views at sunset. An hour’s drive from Brindisi airport (served by Ryanair), there is also a private garage in the gated apartment complex and a supermarket and fish market within a minute’s walk.

This is the correct side of town to be for the easiest walking access to the market, marina and the historic town centre and its wonderful restaurants. It is the far side of town from the busiest tourist residential district in Summer.

Otranto: Otranto itself is a historic, walled city with a lovely castle and cathedral and a stunning seafront. Pretty, cobbled and car-free lanes wind through the compact city and are packed with fantastic restaurants and bars. The town also has beautiful beaches and the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea.

Salento: Otranto is also a perfect base to discover and explore the local region of Salento. Highlights include the beautiful coastal road south of Otranto - with views and grottos, it is often likened to the Amalfi coast - and the long sandy beaches north of the town. The gorgeous baroque city of Lecce (the ‘Florence of the South’) is 30 minutes drive away, as is the fishing port of Gallipoli and the beaches and resorts of the west of the peninsula on the Ionian Sea. Among the many other places of interest are the ‘white city’ of Ostuni and the conical trulli of Alberobello, as are the wonderful churches in Galatone and Galatina, and the pretty port of Porto Cesarea.

Puglia: Puglia is unspoilt Italy and is legendary for its food and wine, thanks to its year round sunshine and clear blue waters. The olives, fish and both red and white vino are fabulous and are an integral part of any holiday in the region. The weather is warm throughout the year and July and August are full of festivals and music that celebrate this wonderful town.

Ottimo soggiorno in Otranto

  • 5 of 5

Owner's Response: Thank you Carlo, you are right, the terraces are the perfect place to enjoy the Salento sun, food and wine. I guess you could sleep there as well but recommend the air conditioned bedrooms - we have certainly had many a delicious siesta rest lying on the sun beds on the terraces! It's also nice to know that our description of the apartment and the pages here on HomeAway.co.uk accurately reflect what you experience when you arrive in Otranto. Delighted that you enjoyed your holiday in Otranto in our apartment and thank you for your comments.

Perfect Otranto and Puglia base!

  • 5 of 5

We just loved the apartment!

It was a perfect base for us, over 4 weeks, to enjoy beautiful Otranto and wonderful Puglia.

The apartment fully lived up to its description and photos and is only minutes walk away from Otranto's historic centre, restaurants and shops - couldn't be better!

The apartment has all one would need and is very comfortable, and the roof terrace is a joy.

David Roche provided invaluable information before we arrived, but there is lots of information provided in the apartment.

We also found the local agent to be extremely friendly and helpful - especially when we needed some crucial local assistance!

Wonderful stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and got to see some of the surrounding areas in Puglia and Basilicata. Otranto really is perfectly located for exploring the delights of Lecce, Gallipoli, Ostuni, Alberobello, Matera and many others. Thanks also for your comments in our visitor's book and I am so pleased that you enjoyed the apartment and the terrific local restaurants - can't argue with your choices but there are just so many good ones to choose from. You'll be delighted to know that since you stayed we have painted both terraces white and added the option of wi-fi for our guests. Do come again! David & Johanna

We have had a wonderfull time with our friends

  • 5 of 5

Hi David,

We have had a wonderfull time there with our friends.

Your appartment was great. We enjoyed the terras very much.

A beautiful private and silent environment where we did our reading, talking, playing cards and sunbath.

Because I love cooking I have used your kitchen very often and with the fishes from the market at the corner and with help of your wonderful !

cook-books we have made delicious dishes.

We made every day a short walk in Otranto. We were lucky to see a very traditional and folkloric procession because of the remembrance of the the martyrs of Otranto:” I marteri di Otranto “

Further we have visited others places like Santa Maria di Leuca, Gallipoli, Lecce, de villages in the greek region ( “greci salentina”). We enjoyed the beautiful panoramic coast-roads to the south as wel as to the north.

Sometimes a refreshing shower but almost all days sunny weather and sitting on the terras!

Again thanks for your appartment and your clear information all the time. It was also very supporting and thrustfull that there was a concierga close to the appartment!

Con il gran saluto Kees Noordermeer

Owner's Response: Thanks Kees, it sounds like you really took the opportunity to enjoy many of the wonderful characteristics of Otranto and the surrounding area, and it's always great to have people to stay who appreciate the amazing local food and wine. There's so much more to see (Ostuni, Alberobello, etc) and do (wine tasting, cookery lessons etc) so do come back and explore fantastic Puglia some more.

WE LOVE THIS APARTMENT with great outdoor terraces

  • 5 of 5

We spent six glorious weeks at this apartment and most of the time on one of the two terraces or back balcony. We enjoyed the privacy of the large terrace right off the kitchen with the open fields and unobstructed views to the west. The roof top terrace has wonderful views as well. And finally we discovered the back balcony for the enclosed protection from the rare sudden storm/driving rain, or to watch a thunderstorm.

Loved the neighborhood location of the apartment and the friendly market right around the corner. With only a short easy walk from the downtown, beaches or castle walks, we felt we had the best of both worlds, privacy or town life.

The kitchen is stocked with cookware and cookbooks, which inspired us to take advantage of the delicious food grown and produced in the area. Many evenings we spent on the kitchen terrace after preparing our own Salento cuisine. There is also a great movie collection for your enjoyment.

The bedrooms are air conditioned but on cooler nights we enjoyed the wonderful cross breeze through the open windows. OH the air in Otranto is sweet and clean and dry. Be advised, the neighborhood is so quiet you may find yourself sleeping til noon!

Working with the owners, David and Johanna, was a delight. Gracious and hospitable, they made the renting process safe and easy. They have done a wonderful job setting up a well run vacation apartment with information on local venues at your fingertips.

When we travel we do not rent a car so we chose Otranto for its accessibility via train and bus. Beware however, there are no buses from Lecce to Otranto after September 5th. This leaves you with the option of the regional train FSE from Lecce to Otranto, which can take anywhere from an hour to three or ??? Welcome to Sud Est Italia, where the pace is slow and easy going.

When arriving via train to Otranto, you will not find taxis waiting. Once you know the town it is an easy walk to the apartment, We suggest ordering a motorized rickshaw.

The other option from Lecce to Otranto and vice versa is a cab ride which only takes 40 minutes and costs around 65.00 Euros. We used, Onelio, who speaks good English, at Go Far Travel in Otranto for our booking : www.gofartravel.eu - info@gofartravel.eu.

As you can see we loved Otranto and this apartment. We give it five stars for location, privacy and great outdoor space, as well as the friendly helpful owners, David and Johanna.

We plan to return!!!!!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much Mary Jane and Sergio, you were a pleasure to have staying - perfect visitors. It's so nice to have people who really get into the spirit of the very special Southern Italian way of life! There is so much to see and do in Salento and beyond, so I'm glad that you had 6 weeks to explore and immerse yourselves. Very happy too that you enjoyed the fantastic local wine and food, whether it's in the brilliant local restaurants or eating al fresco on the terrace, the wonderful local ingredients just can't be beaten. Please do come and stay again; there's an endless list of places still to see and it will feel like coming home...

Wonderful stay in Otranto

  • 5 of 5

Though Otranto by itself is a lovely place, our stay was enhanced by this fantastic apartment. The terrace gave the apartment a spacious feel and was equipped with everything we needed. The apartment is very baby friendly and the owner did everything to accommodate our family's needs.

The apartment is steps away from the beautiful beaches and town as well as around the corner from a terrific supermarket

Best of all, the owner was extremely helpful with logistics etc and was always speedy with his responses.

Thank you for making us feel comfortable in a place so far away from our home

p.s. The espresso maker made such delicious coffee that we bought ourselves one upon our return.

Location

From the Owner

We both love Italy and wanted to find somewhere with great sunshine and authenticity and so investigated Puglia. Having travelled all over, we felt that Otranto had the best mixture of stunning sea, a beautiful historic centre, great restaurants and all year round activity. It is also a perfect base for exploring the region and wonderful towns such as Ostuni, Lecce, Gallipolli etc are all within easy reach. The food and wine in Puglia, and particularly the fish and seafood in Otranto, are fabulous. Our apartment was unique in being in the right part of town, being on the top floor and having direct access to extensive terraces that didn't just look out over other roof terraces. In addition the private garage underneath the property was a real bonus.

Facilities

From the Owner

We fell in love with our apartment initially because of the fantastic terraces. The weather between Easter and October means that you want to spend as much time outside as possible and having such a large terrace directly off the kitchen was very unusual. We have invested in a solid, wooden, permanent awning with floodlighting to enhance al fresco dining in all weathers. Steps from this terrace lead straight to a private roof terrace that has a 270 degree view over fields and to the chiesi dei martiri. The apartment is modern, comfortable and easy to maintain. It is in the quieter (and more older and civilised) residential part of the city and is only a couple of minutes walk from the castle and the historic city centre. This is where the majority of shops, restaurants and bars are located, and the town seafront. Everyone comes there to stroll and have a cafe or gelato in late afternoon. We also have a local supermarket and fantastic pisceria (wet fish shop) within a minute's walk of the apartment. SEE MORE AT WWW.OTRANTOAPARTMENT.COM
