Beautifully Renovated Gite
We absolutely loved our stay in the newly renovated and totally modern gîte. The photos in the listing are accurate and if anything understate how nice this place is. Steve and Rob couldn't be better hosts! They are warm, friendly and willing to look after you in any way they can. Our stay started off with a tour of their vineyard and winery along with a tasting. They produce a very good quality wine - we bought several bottles! After a day touring the area it was nice to get back to Clos Vieux Rochers and just relax. The gîte is well appointed if you want to cook in and there is a good selection of good cafes in the area if you want to eat out. We had several great meals in the gîte and tried some of the local restaurants as well. We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone visiting the Bordeaux region!

Lovely cottage 15 minutes from Sainte Emilion
This very clean and comfortable cottage is in the country a short drive from Sainte Emilion. Quiet, pastoral setting. It was out base for drives in the area and for a relaxing time at the end of the day. We opted for the breakfast which was very reasonable and delish - yougurt, fruit, pastries, juice and coffee. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful. The furnishings were modern and comfortable. Everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay.

Wonderfull week between the vineyards
We had a wonderfull week in the gites of Steve and Rob, surrounded by their own vineyard. The gite has everything needed, enough space, nice bedroom and bathroom, a covered car parking, outdoor furniture. We could also enjoy the garden and the petanque court, which Steve and Rob share with the guests. The first day of our stay we enjoyed a very interesting tour of the property and wine cellar, including a tasting of the latest bottled wine - good stuff ! Steve and Rob are very friendly and helpfull hosts, always available to help or answer any question. The location is very quiet but ideal to discover the surrounding villages and towns by car or bike. Saint-Emilion is nearby, visiting Bordeaux from here is easy, there are lovely small villages between the vineyards and on the borders of the Dordogne. Great place, great hosts, great stay !

About the host

Hosted by Steve and Rob

Host profile image
Rob and Steve have been involved with hospitality, travel and tourism and retail all of their working careers, so they appreciate client needs and strive to give the highest levels of customer service and quality.

One of their latest challenges was being part of a team responsible for bringing a large hotel with no stars up to 4 star status and achieving two rosettes for one of its restaurants in the process.

Their individual and joint skills come to life when greeting guests and visitors to ensure that their expectations are not just met but surpassed in a comfortable, friendly and approachable ambiance.

Having lived and worked in other countries previously, they are accustomed to embracing different cultures and customs and are in their element when exploring new and exciting places to discover or sampling foods and drinks native to the region they are living. You will find their exuberance in passing on this information both valuable and interesting - particularly over a glass or two of their own produced wine.

Why they chose this property

"We finally visited this area of France after friends recommended it to us. We instantly fell in love with the beauty, the quiet pace of life and of course - the wine!

When searching for a property that we could call home and develop into a business venture we stumbled across Clos Vieux Rochers - an unloved small vineyard with a courtyard surrounded by an ensemble of derelict and poorly maintained buildings.

Nestled in the rolling hills at the heart of the vineyards of Bordeaux we are only a short drive to St Emilion. We have incredible views with easy accessibility, the perfect location for our dream home and an idyllic base to explore the region and for our guests to enjoy our property and grounds - including our adjoining woods and valley (perfect tranquility and inspiration for painters, readers and writers).

What may have made others make a hasty retreat, sparked our vision and imagination - we saw the potential of what this hidden gem could become.

We have already renovated the derelict owners house, and adjoining visitor/guest tasting room and shop."

The old farmhouse, which was added to during its long history, has now been renovated to form four beautiful one bedroom gites, each totally independent and
individual whilst offering all the modern conveniences expected of todays travellers.

This dream project continues to unfold and will do so over the coming years in the replanting and development of the vineyard, facilities and cellars.

What makes this property unique

Visiting Clos Vieux Rochers offers its guest the opportunity to experience the day to day life of a fully working vineyard. As the seasons change so also can your experience.

Rob and Steve live and work at the property so are always at hand to answer questions about the wine making process and if you are fortunate, maybe even a guided tour of the vineyard and cellars.

They are happy for guests to explore the property with its adjoining valley and woodland enabling them to absorb the beauty of their surroundings.
